Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / In this thesis, I examine the narratives of authenticity, the limits thereof, the potential interests served by these narratives, and the power relations involved in the promotion of an authentic San identity. I focus on four key areas to achieve this goal: the methodological issues involved in studying authenticity, the framing of the land claim lodged by the San against the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa in 1995, the post-land claim settlement activities on the restituted farms, and the various issues around authenticity and traditional leadership. I will also highlight a variety of issues, ranging from livelihoods to governance, community-based natural resource management (CBNRM), identity and ethnicity, and common property debates. The study begins with a brief introduction to the richly textured and highly contested debates and analytical issues concerning the San. Among other things, this first part of the thesis deals with naming, the alleged disappearance of the San, and the eventual reemergence of this group in the post-apartheid landscape of southern Africa. This is followed by a brief description of some aspects of the natural environment of the southern Kalahari and how the San see themselves situated within this cultural–ecological complex. This exploration of the cultural–ecological landscape is not meant to mirror previous San studies of cultural ecology but rather to offer an account of a possible San ontology. The thesis gives an inventory firstly of the research methods applied by myself, and then probes the research encounter reflexively. The main descriptive chapters of the thesis begin with an examination of how the ≠Khomani San emerged onto the political landscape of post-1994 South Africa and how an ethnic entity was constituted through the land restitution process. The post-restitution activities of at least three subgroups of the ≠Khomani San Common Property Association (CPA) are then examined and shown to be a series of contestations and challenges of authenticity. In the final chapter, I take an experimental look at a particular institution that emerged as central to the debates about authenticity and the management of resources in the ≠Khomani San CPA

The ultimate aim of this study is to identify and eliminate inefficiencies associated with the current claims management processes, thereby ensuring cost reduction, hi damages recoveries while ensuring that the company is positioned to be able to apply its resources in the best way possible to respond to satisfying the needs of the customers. The study was conducted using the qualitative approach with interviews conducted with people involved with the claims business process.

The object of this thesis is the analysis of the claims department in JPJ WOOD,LLC. based on theoretical knowledge. The first part defines claims from the legal and accouting perspectives and creates an overview of the proceedings and debt recovery in the Czech enviroment. The practical part focuses on the analysis of the claims department in JPJ WOOD, LLC. Based on the analysis it recommends measures, that could lead to the reduction of risky problematic trade receivables and increase the efficiency of the claims department in the above mentined company.

This thesis deals with the enforcement of claims coming from public health insurance by VZP ČR. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes the reasons for the claims on public health insurance, their findings through the administrative procedure and the legal possibilities of enforcement. It also contains a description of the bankruptcy and criminal proceedings. In the practical part is an analysis of enforcement of claims by VZP ČR from 2012 to 2015. The work also includes the definition of the organizational structure of the VZP ČR. In the final part of the thesis we identified shortcomings in the current working with claims by the VZP ČR.

The goal of the project was to use the data in the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) of British Columbia's data warehouse to develop a statistical model that could predict on an ongoing basis those short-term disability (STD) claims that posed a potential high financial risk to the WCB. We were especially interested in identifying factors that could be used to model the transition process of claims from the STD stratum to the vocational rehabilitation (VR) and long term disability (LTD) strata, and forecast their financial impact on the WCB. The reason for this focus is that claims experiencing these transitions represent a much higher financial risk to the WCB than claims that only progress to the health care (HC) and/or the short term disability (STD) strata. The sample used to investigate the conversion processes of claims consists of all STD claims (323,098) that had injury dates between January 1, 1989 and December 31, 1992. Although high-risk claims represent only 4.2 % of all STD claims, they have received 64.3% ($1.2 billion) of the total payments and awards ($1.8 billion) made to July 1999. Low-risk claims make up 95.8% of all the claims but only receive 35.7% ($651 million) of the payments and awards. Moreover, the average cost of high-risk claims ($86,200) is 41 times higher than the average cost of low-risk claims ($2,100). The main objective of the project was to build a reliable statistical model to identify high-risk claims that can be readily implemented at the WCB and thereby improve business decisions. To identify high-risk claims early on, we used logistic regression modeling. Since ten of the most frequently observed injury types make up 95.72% of all the claims, separate logistic regression models were built for each of them. Besides injury type, we also identified STD days paid and age of claimant as statistically significant predictors. The logistic regression models can be used to identify high-risk claims prior to or at the First Final STD payment date provided we know the injury type, STD days paid and age of claimant. The investigation showed that the more STD days paid and the older the injured worker, the higher the probability of the claim being high-risk. / Business, Sauder School of / Graduate

This thesis deals with the theory of creating modern web applications. Various technologies that are commonly used are analyzed. Thesis mainly deals with creating specific application for processing Warranty Claims. The application serves as a service for eshops.

First part is an introduction into this thema, followed with second part, which clarifies (describes) the whole process from receiving the demand through part development till serial production approval. Third part describes the claim procedure, including all methods, used for solving the problems and followed with short analyse of production centres activities and sorting the claims by causer. All claims are given factors, which may cause claim occurence. Every factor is given by specific importance (weight) and the achieved data are evaluated. In final part I suggest the corrective actions.
