Defining Spatial Distribution Of Storage Vessels In Ancient Burgaz At The Fourth Century B.c.

Sakarya, Ilham 01 December 2003 (has links) (PDF)
This research is an investigation of the spatial organization of household activities and especially the storage facilities in Ancient Burgaz. The four well-preserved houses at the Northeast Sector, their artefact assemblages which come from the final occupation floor level dated to the 4th century B.C., and the storage containers have been evaluated. The spatial distributions of the artefacts were studied through the use of quantitative methods with the objective of identifying storage spaces in Burgaz houses. The results of this quantitative analysis and the observations regarding Burgaz houses have been compared to other contemporary sites in ancient Aegean.

De la crónica a la escena : Arauco en el teatro del Siglo de Oro

Lee, Monica L. 11 1900 (has links)
The encounter between Spain and the New World --the Americas-- is one of the distinctive historical events of the 15th century. So it is surprising that there is very little reference to the Americas in the many plays remaining from the Spanish Golden Age theatre. This thesis studies six plays centering on the Arauco wars in Southern Chile and the figure of one of the first governors of that country, don Garcia Hurtado de Mendoza. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate to what extent the literary elaboration of the topic contributed to the vision of the New World held by the Spanish public. The dramatists that dealt with this theme did not have any direct contact with the Americas, therefore their representation of that world was based on oral accounts and literary sources available at the time. Among the latter are the letters of a conqueror, two chronicles, two epic poems and a panegiric text. The first part of this thesis consists of the textual analysis of this literary corpus. The main focus of the analysis is the influence of these sources on the dramas and how the characteristics of each genre contributed to their creation. The analysis of the dramatic works with Araucanian content (five plays and one auto sacramental) forms the second part of this thesis. The approach centers particularly on the representation of the Indian world as the "Other" opposed to the Spanish world. The analysis of these texts shows the subtle evolutionary process by which the treatment of the historical fact --Arauco and the Conquest-- in the theatre contributed to create the "idea" of America held at the time in Spain. Also, the re-elaboration of characters and motives indicates the emergence of native mythical figures which have become part of the historic and cultural patrimony of Chile today. / Arts, Faculty of / French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies, Department of / Graduate

Cembalo v českém klasicismu / Harpsichord in Bohemian Classical Period

Svobodová, Anna January 2022 (has links)
In my master's thesis I will focus on the harpsichord. This instrument is usually classified as a baroque instrument, but in Bohemia the harpsichord experienced its greatest prosperity in Classicism. I will focus on the characteristics of the instrument and differences between the harpsichord and the piano. I will also try to characterize the classical work for harpsichord, the form of a classical solo concerto and the specifics of the interpretation of compositions on harpsichord and piano. Than I will examine the work for harpsichord by Jan Křtitel Vaňhal, put the composition in the context of the author's concert work and determine the diferences between the concerto for harpsichord and the piano concerto in Classicism in Bohemia. Finally, I will comment on the new complete score of Jan Křtitel Vaňhal's Harpsichord Concerto in C major, which I will compare with his Piano Concerto in A major. I also want to create a theoretical basis for the attached new completation of full score of Concerto in C major by J. K. Vaňhal. KEYWORDS Harpsichord, Fortepiano, Jan Křtitel Vaňhal, solo concert, classical period

The bandit of the Comedia of the Spanish golden age theatre

Duca, Antonino Gennaro January 1978 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to make available to those interested in the Cornedia of the Spanish Golden Age an introduction to the Bandit plays. The list of plays makes no claim at being exhaustive. I have incorporated in the text well-known plays and some unknown plays. The method used in identifying bandit plays was to examine collections of the works of famous playwrights such as Calderon, Tirso and Lope. Those plays which, in the dramatis personnae, called for bandoleros, salteadores or facinerosos were read for the purpose of establishing whether they could be used for this study. Bandit plays, and banditry, have received minimal attention from scholars, studies of the theme limited to a few articles. This neglect is unfortunate because the bandit play forms an entire sub-genre of the Cornedia of the Golden Age and a study of this sub-genre will provide a further insight into the function of the many-faceted Cornedia. The plays discussed in this thesis follow a definite pattern. Within the limits of an M.A. thesis my intention is to illustrate and analyze on a basic level the salient literary conventions common to the bandit plays. This I attempt to do by giving a systematic, but brief, plot analysis of each play, drawing conclusions from the common elements which emerge. In order that this study be placed in a proper context, I have included a brief discussion of historical and possible literary sources for the figure of the bandolero and bandolera. It is my strong conviction that this modus operandi is of considerable value in enabling us to arrive at an interpretation of the figure of the bandit within the Cornedia. Once the bandit is seen within his historical context -- and it is evident that this topic requires more attention and research by historians -- any changes that the playwright makes to the figure of the historical bandit will be significant in reaching an interpretation of the Cornedia Bandolera. / Arts, Faculty of / French, Hispanic, and Italian Studies, Department of / Graduate

The Álbum of Antigualhas from the Portuguese painter Francisco de Holanda brings together a series of drawings in which the author records works of art, antique and contemporary constructions, fortifications, places, people and events seen by him during a trip he made to the city of Rome between the years of 1538 and 1540, together with the Portuguese delegation of the ambassador Pedro Mascarenhas. This book of drawings has been read by most of the researchers who have studied the biography of Francisco de Holanda, as a travelogue. The trip to Rome also resulted in the writing of his treatise Da Pintura Antiga, and, the images that compose the Álbum of Antigualhas were used by various scholars of Francisco de Holanda‟s work of art as illustrations for the theoretical questions posed by him. Others have looked into the album interested in the drawings or constructions that no longer exist, seeking the historical record in it. This "diary", however, has not yet been examined as a whole, in its entirety. Despite the fact that the drawings record the antiquities seen by the author during his journey, these drawings were only organized in the format in which they are presented today, during the 1560s. For this reason, I believe that the album does not meet all the drawings by Francisco de Holanda at the time, but the most significant for the speech he intended to write to the constitution of this album. The research from which this thesis is the result searches this speech. This is the objective, analyze the choices made by Francisco de Holanda, which is the resulting speech of those choices and what this speech implies in terms of cultural membership, philosophical and/or ideological alignment. The drawings that compose the album were divided according to the themes they present. Two large thematic units are noticeable. The first contains the drawings which refer to the Classical Period. The second, despite an apparent inconsistency, brings together the drawings of fortress and curiosities, the visual account of his trip. Based on these two major axes and thinking about the pioneering role that Francisco de Holanda took it upon himself in the defense and appreciation of art in Portugal, I have analyzed the possible sub-themes that divide the two great axes, allowing a modernity reading that the author thought to Portugal.

Los medios de comunicación y transporte en la novela picaresca del Siglo de Oro

Menchaca, Juan 05 1900 (has links)
The problem with which this study is concerned is that of demonstrating the importance of communication and travel in the Siglo de Oro as seen in selected picaresque novels. This study is divided into five chapters. The introductory chapter includes a literary and chronological history of the period and, in the interest of clarity, a plot summary of the selected picaresque novels. The second, third and fourth chapters discuss the various means of urban, rural and maritime communication and travel. The concluding chapter summarizes the study and asserts that communication and travel were of utmost importance during the Siglo LeQ ro and that the picaresque novel, describing faithfully the society that produced it, is a valuable data source for research of this kind.

Imaganes de la mujer transgresora en la tradiciâon romancera: el Romance Celestinesco y la adâultera câomo eco de las normas sociales Sefardâies

Unknown Date (has links)
The Sephardic ballad collection contains ballads of varying themes, many of which have been forgotten in Spain, where they were originally sung by Jews, Christians, and Muslims. A popular theme within this genre is that of women committing adultery and transgressions which in many of the ballads is punishable by death. A brief history of the Sephardic Jews and their literary and oral tradition is included. An emphasis is placed on women's role in ballad tradition and the importance of transculturation and mimesis within the oral tradition, both significant to the survival of a tradition that has been continued for over five centuries, encompassing various regions around the world. The analysis focuses on two ballads in particular ; the "Celestine Romance", which shares a similar plot to La Celestina, written by Fernando de Rojas, and the ballad of "The Adulteress", a popular ballad within several traditions. / by Inbal Mazar. / Abstract in English. / Signature page unsigned. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2008. / Includes bibliography. / Electronic reproduction.
