Aurich, Jörg 11 May 2011 (has links)

Grams, Sebastian 14 March 2016 (has links)

Trade-off mezi velikostí a počtem vajec ve snůšce na úrovni čeledí ptáků / Trade-off between egg size and number at the level of bird families

Špaldoňová, Alexandra January 2010 (has links)
Trade-off between offspring size and number belongs to the most discussed concepts in the life history theory. The aim of this study was to elucidate the relationship between egg size, clutch size and female body mass at the family level in bird's and to examine whether there is the relationship between offspring size and number and life history traits specific for particular bird families. From published sources, I collected data about 5.073 species belong in 146 families. Most species of birds lay smaller clutches, on average three eggs. In 112 families from 130 tested eggs size was positively correlated with female body mass. There is evidence that egg size and clutch size are inversely related in 83 families from 130 tested but only for 34 families was significant. The relationship exists independently of female body mass across bird families and this suggests a trade-off between these traits. The relationship between the strength and shape of egg size-number correlations and life history characteristics of bird families was not frequent. According to results, the strength of correlation seems to be related to development mode and diet type. The negative egg size-number correlation is stronger when incubation period and fledging time is longer and in birds with longer lifespan. The...

Design and performance evaluation of next generation clutch control valve

Erhard, Michael, Schneider, Jörg, Stein, Jan Julius 26 June 2020 (has links)
Pressure reducing valves perform various control tasks in mobile machines. In many cases contamination sensitive environments require pilot-operated valves, because of its more robust performance. On the other hand, dynamic valve behavior can be critically in certain applications. Overcoming the restrictions resulting from stand-alone test rig attempts, suitable simulation principles are nowadays the state of art in valve design. Unsuitable model approaches and missing consideration of the application may result in wrong design decisions. This paper discusses two important modeling issues, in particular the solenoid and spool leakage behavior, in combination with the connected system under control, a pressure-actuated clutch. It is shown, that even for standard proportional valves a critical view on customers´excitation strategy and site of installation decides on success or failure of an already used design variant.

Compliant Centrifugal Clutches: Design, Analysis, and Testing

Crane, Nathan B. 29 September 2003 (has links) (PDF)
Existing classes of centrifugal clutch concepts were reviewed. The pseudo-rigid-body model (PRBM), rigid-body replacement synthesis, force-deflection analysis, compliance potential evaluation, and compliant concept evaluation were used to develop effective new centrifugal clutch concepts. These methods helped develop and model four novel compliant centrifugal clutch designs, model two existing designs, and identify a concept with excellent potential for low-cost centrifugal clutch applications. This concept, the floating opposing arm (FOA) clutch, doubles the torque capacity metric relative to existing compliant designs. Torque and engagement speed models for this clutch were developed and verified against four prototype clutches. Additional novel designs devel-oped through this work have lower torque capacities, but also show good potential because of other unique characteristics. All of the designs were prototyped and tested to measure their torque-speed relationships.

CFD on Open Wet Cutch to Reduce Drag Losses / CFD av våta kopplingar för minskade förluster

Duraisamy, Rimmie January 2017 (has links)
As the need for highly efficient transmission systems increase, it is imperative to have lower fuel consumption levels. Hence, it becomes crucial to investigate and understand reasons behind various losses occurring within the system. Clutches and gears contribute to the major losses within a transmission system. In this thesis project, the drag losses in disengaged wet clutch is studied and efforts have been made to come up with solutions to reduce these losses. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used as tool to understand the oil flow in the clutch system. The thesis tasks focused on: - Better understanding of flow physics and oil inlet to the clutch pack - Design and analysis of groove patterns to reduce drag loss - Understand the effect of rotation of clutch discs on groove functionality - Development of a multiphase CFD model with realistic boundary conditions for clutch analysis Initially, the entire clutch pack is modelled to study the oil flow and estimate the amount of oil that is being pumped into the individual gaps between the steel plates and friction discs. To analyze different groove patterns, the clutch model was simplified and only the gap having higher mass flow rate has been considered for simulation. A background study has been done to understand the effect of different clutch parameters on drag losses. Based on the understanding from the literature study, two groove patterns- inclined grooves and waffle grooves have been designed and analyzed in this thesis work. A simplified model with periodic boundary condition and a complete single disc model have been set up and simulated to compare the two groove patterns. To reduce the computational time, at first, a periodic model is set up for groove study. Due to numerical instability observed in the results obtained by using model with periodic boundary condition, the complete single disc model is used for further groove study and comparison. To understand the effect of rotation on grooves, two models have been set up, one with stationary grooves and the other with rotating grooves. While performing the simulations, the temperature and the oil properties have been considered constant. As there were no test results available, the CFD results could not be validated. Convective heat transfer coefficient is estimated to compare the cooling effect of different grooves. An optimal groove pattern would be the one that dissipates oil faster and efficiently out of the clutch pack, and at the same time has better cooling effect. From the results obtained, the inclined grooves were more efficient than waffle grooves in dissipating oil and reducing drag losses. On the other hand, waffle grooves have higher convective heat transfer coefficient when compared to inclined grooves and are better for cooling.
