Neste trabalho, propomos um método de paralelização de simulações de dinâmica molecular para execução em máquinas de memória distribuída, trabalhando sob passagem de mensagens. Nos limitamos à análise de implementação de sistemas com ensemble microcanônico de partículas de Lennard-Jones, desenvolvendo no entanto um sistema que pode ser expandido para incluir outras características. Mostramos que o sistema apresenta bom desempenho com relação à paralelização, representando uma alternativa viável para a simulação de sistemas com muitas partículas. / A method for parallelization of molecular dynamics simulations in distributed memory machines operating under the message-passing paradigm is proposed. Even though the analysis and implementation presented in this work were primarily restricted to the system model known as microcanonical emsemble of Lennard--Jones particles. the obtained system can easily be adapted for inclusion of other characteristics. It is shown t,hat. the developed system is well suited for parallelization, resulting in a feasible a1ternative for simulation of many-particle systems.

<p>This essay revolves around <em>Micrographia </em>written by the English 17th century experimental philosopher Robert Hooke and the way it mediated microscopic experience. The focus of this study is on one hand the strategies Hooke used to communicate experience and on the other the responses by some of Hooke’s contemporary readers. By comparing <em>Micrographia </em>to Henry Power’s <em>Experimental Philosophy</em>, we see that <em>Micrographia </em>uses images where the author is invisible and textual narrations with an explicit authorial voice to mediate experimental experience to his contemporaries. Samuel Pepys uses the mediated experiences to learn how to see through the microscope and to become more like the author in <em>Micrographia</em>, Margaret Cavendish does not trust the representational techniques of Hooke and the playwright Thomas Shadwell satirizes the gentleman virtuoso that constitutes the narrative voice in <em>Micrographia</em>. By the study of these three readers, I build on Peter Dears definition of a scientific text as having an inherent reference to an experimental situation. By seeing <em>Micrographia </em>as defined through the interactions between the author and the readers, we see that this reference, and therefore a text’s scientific status, is defined by a relation between author and reader based on trust. The reader has to trust both the author and the representational techniques used in the text. The appropriation of <em>Micrographia </em>by readers who do not possess this trust, results in the redefinition of <em>Micrographia </em>into other kinds of texts that fill different purposes defined by the readers. <em></em></p>

This Master’s thesis explores environmental corporate social responsibility (ECSR) in the alpine sport industry. A mixed methods case with a single alpine sport provider in Quebec was performed. The first study is a qualitative examination of how and why ECSR is employed and communicated. Results indicate ECSR is strategically motivated, and as such, the focal organization runs the risk of using several greenwashing techniques in communications that could jeopardize gaining competitive advantage. The second study quantitatively investigates alpine sport consumers’ environmental expectations, engagement with environmental products, and perceptions of the focal organization’s environmental reputation. The results show the focal organization’s customers do indeed have environmental expectations, but believe the focal organization’s environmental reputation remains neutral. The thesis supports arguments of corporate social responsibility (CSR) being strategically motivated and other findings of skiers having conflicting environmental values. Lastly, the thesis provides insight regarding greenwashing, a phenomenon that remains unexplored in sport management.

abstract: The current study is the first qualitative investigation aimed solely at understanding what it means to communicate conditional forgiveness in serious romantic relationships. Conditional forgiveness is forgiveness that has been offered with the stipulation that the errant behavior cease. It is a provocative topic because some argue genuine forgiveness is not conditional, but recent discoveries that have associated its use with severe transgressions and relational deterioration suggest it is a critical site for investigation. This inductive analysis of open-ended data from 201 anonymous surveys identified both distinctions between and intersections of conditional forgiveness, forgiveness, and reconciliation. A relational dialectics analysis also revealed that reconcilable-irreconcilable was the overarching tension for conditional forgivers and six additional tensions also were also discovered: individual identity-couple identity, safety-risk, certainty-uncertainty, mercy-justice, heart-mind, and expression-suppression. Of particular intrigue, the current analysis supports the previous discovery of implicit conditional forgiveness--suppressing conditions, sometimes in response to physical and substance abuse. Ultimately, the current analysis contributes to the enduring conversation aimed at understanding the communication and pursuit of forgiveness and reconciliation. L'œuvre de Joyce Mansour est la trace foudroyante, voire inquiétante, du principe surréaliste des « vases communicants» : imprégnation de l'écrit par les blessures de la vie tapies dans l'inconscient; empreinte du désir, de la mort, d'un souffle vital indomptable, mais désespéré. Parallèlement, elle témoigne de l'emprise du visuel sur son écriture de chair en érigeant ce « miroir du désir» qui installe une résonance intime entre sa poésie et les œuvres de ses amis artistes. Dans leurs collaborations, ils se subliment, s'exaltent, se commentent, s'illustrent les uns les autres. À leur façon, ils partagent les mêmes angoisses, commettent les mêmes transgressions, exercent la même liberté. L'art et l'écrit se répondent. Cette thèse cherche à suivre le parcours symbiotique entre les images, les mots et la vie, qui traverse l'œuvre de Joyce Mansour. Il se révèle dans la collection d'œuvres d'art océanique qu'elle a constituée avec son mari, Samir Mansour ; dans les Objets méchants qu'elle crée à partir de matériaux récupérés, glanés ou achetés au BHV ... et qui expriment un besoin d'exalter la vie quotidienne, en extraire son essence afin d'échapper au piège de l'ennuie; dans les affinités électives entre elle et ces artistes qui nourrissent ses œuvres, comme elle nourrit les leurs. Ce « miroir du désir» est à la fois singulier - l'expression de la destinée d'une poétesse hantée par la mort et ses traumatismes - et collectif, puisqu'il semble répondre au paysage fantasmagorique d'une génération assoiffée de liberté, mais hantée, comme Joyce Mansour, par les charniers des guerres successives et révoltée par la non-vie des vivants. / Joyce Manour 's work is a striking, sometimes anguishing example of Breton's concept of « communicating vessels » : the subconscious's hidden wounds seep into her writing leaving traces of desire, death and an inextinguishable yet desparate will to live. Parallel to this, the very visual, camal nature of her words provides a « mirror of desire » which enables the intimate echoing between her poetry and the works of her artist friends. Through their collaborations, they sublimate, enhance, comment on and illustrate each other. Each in their own way, they share the same anguish. commit the same transgressions, exercise the sa me freedom. Art and poetry connect deeply. This thesis aims to follow the symbiosis between images, words and experiences which characterises Joyce Mansours work. It reveals itself in the collection of Oceanic art she built up with her husbanc, Samir Mansour ; in the Objets méchants she created using material gleaned from scrapyards or bought at the BHV ... which express a need to intensify daily life, seek its essence in order to escape tedium ; in the elective affinities she shares with with the artists that enrich her works, as she does theirs. This « mirror of desire» is both personal - an expression of the poetess' s destiny, haunted by death and its traumas - and collective, as it seems to reflect the phantasmagorical landscape of a generation hungry for freedom, but haunted, like Joyce Mansour, by the mass graves of successive wars, and in rebellion against the non-life of the living.

Apresentamos um problema de dinâmica molecular e quatro algoritmos seqüenciais para a implementação do mesmo. Em seguida esses algoritmos são estudados quanto ao tempo de execução e possibilidades de paralelização. É escolhido então dentre os quatro o algoritmo que apresenta melhores características para a paralelização. Introduzimos a seguir uma proposta de implementação do mesmo em um rede de transputers, com a. definição das interligações entre os processadores e da. programação dos mesmos. A seguir é realizado um estudo da eficiência da estrutura proposta quanto a. tempo de execução e características de expansibilidade do número de processadores. Os resultados mostram que conseguem-se velocidades de execução próximas às de supercomputadores para redes com baixos números de elementos. / In the present work, we describe four sequential algorithms for simulating molecular dynamics. The parallelism and execution times of these algorithms are assessed. Using the best suited algorithm for parallelism exploitation a transputer based architecture is suggested including needed link and software. The evaluation of the eficiency regarding execution time and number of processors is analyzed. The results show that speeds dose to those of supercomputers can be achieved with a low number of processors.
