No. of bitstreams: 1 Sander Justino Neves.pdf: 2181246 bytes, checksum: 7aec1453d6b8b7218af23f9fb29934e0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-04-19 / This is a study on Portuguese language periodicals intended for Brazilians who migrate to the United States. The objective is to map printed periodicals in Massachusetts and to identify if the Brazilian Times newspaper, the oldest to circulate it in the state, facilitates the acculturation and/or the establishment of the people who had changed the Brazilian lands for the northeast of the United States. The methodology involved bibliographical research, in order to base the study with historical and current concepts of citizenship, community and the problems of migration; documentary research; and half-structuralized interviews and analysis of content of the newspaper. The documentary research gathered data from the ethnic periodicals and from the Brazil - United States migratory situation. The analysis of content took 11 editions of the periodical published between 2001 and 2011, and tried to identify and analyze the journalistic subjects prioritized and their approach, to compare the space destined for journalism to that of advertising and to define the profile of the advertisers. The half-structuralized interviews were undertaken with publishers of the periodical and with Brazilian readers who live in the region where the printed edition circulates. It s conclusion was that the Brazilian Times does help to preserve cultural aspects of Brazilian culture as well as facilitating the integration of the immigrants in to the United States way of life. If on one hand its main objective is profit, since it reserves most of the space for advertising, on the other it presents typical ethnic periodical characteristics, such as its emphasis on subjects of interest to the immigrant community (minority). This makes it an opinion former within the Brazilian community in the United States.

The presence of disinformation and post-truth in opinion columns: an analysis of the opinion columns of Aldo Mariátegui and Luis García Miró Elguera in the context of the second impeachment process against former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski

Montesinos Nolasco, Edwin 14 October 2020 (has links)
The following research examines some mechanisms that can show the presence of disinformation and post-truth in opinion journalism. To address this issue, it develops an instrument that helps to identify these mechanisms in the content of the opinion columns of Aldo Mariátegui and Luis García, in the newspapers Perú21 and Expreso respectively, that comment on the second impeachment process against former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski. The period of analysis took place since the process started until one day after President Martín Vizcarra took office. The first chapter explores the origin of post-truth in disinformation, as well as analyzing what elements they share and how they have transferred from one to the other. Likewise, the mechanisms of disinformation and post-truth that are related to opinion journalism are delimited: fallacies such as ad populum, gratuitous affirmation and hasty generalization, as well as name-calling (adjectives of personal disqualification) and reference to fake news. In the second chapter, this research explores the context and state of opinion journalism in Peru. Subsequently, an instrument is developed to review the chosen columns and analyse the findings of this process were discussed. These findings reveal that in the opinion columns that were analyzed, the use of these disinformation and post-truth mechanism, as fallacies and name-calling (adjectives of personal disqualification), replaces the arguments needed to defend their stances. / Tesis
