Prolínání politické a mediální moci na případu Radka Johna a pořadu Bez cenzury / Blending of political and media power: The case of Radek John and his programme Bez cenzury

Štrup, David January 2016 (has links)
This thesis considers the role of former politician and journalist Radek John in an investigative programme Bez cenzury on TV Barrandov. Even though John was a politician and leader of Czech political party Věci veřejné, he decided to return to journalism. He did so with no intention of resigning his chair in the Chamber of Deputies, part of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. With this in mind, this could be considered as a specific representation of political parallelism. This study describes specific cases where Radek John might have acted contrary to normative journalistic values and journalism ethics. Furthermore, the thesis analyses the possibility that Radek John's own political interests and opinions affected the television programme itself. The research is conducted using the method of a case study which combines qualitative and quantitative content analysis, qualitative interviews and other research methods. Consequently, the analysis found signs of biased reporting in the programme's introduction and some stories, which reflected Radek John's antipathy towards traditional political parties and their leaders. However, the research did not reveal any direct support of Věci veřejné or their representatives. Furthermore, the thesis also presents media, academic and political responses to...

Stalinism and the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-40 : crisis management, censorship and control

Spencer, Malcolm Lyndon Gareth January 2015 (has links)
In both western and Russian historiography the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-40 enjoys, at best, only a passing reference in any narrative of the period and is poorly integrated into existing scholarly analyses of the Soviet regime under Stalin. It is my contention that this conflict offers an invaluable opportunity to test for continuity and change in the form and function of the Stalinist system. Between the disastrous efforts of its forces and the condemnation of the international community, the Kremlin was confronted with the serious challenge of how to portray the events of the war in the media, while managing domestic and international opinion over the course of the fighting. This thesis examines the extent to which the Soviet regime under Stalin had the institutions and agents in place at the close of the 1930s to cope with the crisis of war in Finland; to be in command of the military campaign, while simultaneously controlling the direction of the official narrative about the fighting; and to censor conflicting interpretations, experiences and information channels, which might expose the Red Army's woeful performance on Finnish territory. This mobilisation of press, propaganda and censorship organs in the face of widespread international condemnation and domestic disquiet constituted a significant challenge for a regime still dealing with the sudden reorientation of the Communist International, required after the Soviet Union's conclusion of a non-aggression treat with Nazi Germany in August 1939. An international perspective is central to this thesis, with a view towards assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the public face and private practice of Soviet information controls.

Os Sentidos Da Crise Financeira nos Editoriais de CartaCapital e Veja: entre divergências discursivas, a disputa de um projeto para o Brasil / The meanings of the financial crisis in editorials by CartaCapital and Veja: amongst discursive divergences, the dispute over a project for Brazil

Silva, João Victor Borba Moura e 20 December 2013 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This dissertation aims at understanding the meanings which were built on the financial crisis in editorials by two weekly news magazines between September, 2008 and December, 2009. For that, we use French Discourse Analysis and its theoretical-methodological framework. As a theoretical basis needed for the application of Discourse Analysis, we use literature review on topics grounding the magazines' Discourses. Therefore, correlated topics, such as opinion journalism and the editorial, economics journalism and magazine journalism, the economic models from the past decades, the crisis in itself, and a history of the Conditions of Production in the aforementioned magazines are observed. As a methodological tool, we use the concept of Paraphrastic Families, which assist in identifying meanings and their arrangement in Discursive Formations. Reviewing such concepts allied to the Analysis leads to some conclusions regarding the meanings which are constructed by both magazines in this period so as to organise them into four Discursive Formations two of them found in both magazines, and the other two solely in either one of the magazines. Consistently with their history, reviewed in this work, CartaCapital built Keynesian meanings by severely criticising neoliberalism and by considering the return of a strong State as the solution for the crisis whereas Veja built neoliberal meanings by giving the crisis less importance, by overlooking the augmentation of the State, and by defending the neoliberal model even during such time. Both magazines reacted alarmingly when the crisis burst, which brings part of these publications' discourse closer to the report on the event as it is usual in informative journalism. Another Discursive Formation found in both magazines was an emergent discourse, from 'Lulism', social-economic formulation of diffusive character which has, because of its very nature, gained space in editorials so as to defend Brazil as a strong country in the midst of the crisis albeit the ideological differences between both magazines. Thereafter, we were able to establish the Ideological Formations by magazine. In CartaCapital, there is subordination of ideological regions to the seek for equality within capitalism. Whereas, in Veja, we found subordination of ideological regions to market freedom. Both magazines, nonetheless, try to mask their emergent 'Lulist' discourse with their premises. Understanding the way in which editorials by both magazines construct meanings about a crisis of great proportions helps to evaluate how they understand society and its identities inasmuch as those are the moments which lead to the limit of possibilities at stake in the discursive plane. Ergo, the topic studied here is relevant to the research strand 'Media and Contemporary Identities' in the Postgraduate Programme in Communications at the Federal University of Santa Maria inasmuch as it represents a study into the role of Media Communications in the construction of social dynamics.

The presence of disinformation and post-truth in opinion columns: an analysis of the opinion columns of Aldo Mariátegui and Luis García Miró Elguera in the context of the second impeachment process against former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski

Montesinos Nolasco, Edwin 14 October 2020 (has links)
The following research examines some mechanisms that can show the presence of disinformation and post-truth in opinion journalism. To address this issue, it develops an instrument that helps to identify these mechanisms in the content of the opinion columns of Aldo Mariátegui and Luis García, in the newspapers Perú21 and Expreso respectively, that comment on the second impeachment process against former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski. The period of analysis took place since the process started until one day after President Martín Vizcarra took office. The first chapter explores the origin of post-truth in disinformation, as well as analyzing what elements they share and how they have transferred from one to the other. Likewise, the mechanisms of disinformation and post-truth that are related to opinion journalism are delimited: fallacies such as ad populum, gratuitous affirmation and hasty generalization, as well as name-calling (adjectives of personal disqualification) and reference to fake news. In the second chapter, this research explores the context and state of opinion journalism in Peru. Subsequently, an instrument is developed to review the chosen columns and analyse the findings of this process were discussed. These findings reveal that in the opinion columns that were analyzed, the use of these disinformation and post-truth mechanism, as fallacies and name-calling (adjectives of personal disqualification), replaces the arguments needed to defend their stances. / Tesis

Analýza populárně-naučného pořadu alternativní televize Stream: Gebrian Vs a jeho porovnání s podobnými pořady na stejnou tématiku na jiných televizních platformách / Analysis of the popularly educational broadcast by internet television Stream: Gebrian Vs and its comparison with similar tv shows on the same topic on other tv platforms

Hlaváček, Tomáš January 2019 (has links)
The diploma thesis is devoted to freshly emerging TV shows about architecture and public space on the platforms of the two biggest internet TVs in the Czech Republic: Stream.cz and MALL.TV. The work specifically analyzes the following broadcasts: Gebrian VS, Gebrian: Surprising Buildings, Gebrian: PLUS/MINUS, in terms of their distinctive formats. The main purpose of the thesis is to point out the existence of these programs and to identify the formal and genre aspects that shape their unique form. The important part of the research is carried out by comparing the shows based on the platforms on which they are created and which provide different conditions for production. The following theoretical foundations were used: genre theory, presentation of specific genres related to the examined programs, media convergence and internet TVs and their recent production. The qualitative elements, including the visual communication means, which lead to the recognition of the genre construction of a specific TV show, are examined by combined visual and semiotic analysis. Quantitative elements such as tone and footage are analyzed by content analysis. The research reveals some significant differences in the examined TV shows based on a platform they are made on. These are identified as different approaches to...
