Orientador: Nathan Jacob Berkovits / Resumo: Primeiramente apresenta-se uma breve descrição das teorias de primeira quantização covariante da corda bosônica, supercorda RNS e GS. Também apresentamos a descrição topológica da supercorda. Em seguida , fazemos uma introdução à teoria clássica de campos da corda bosônica aberta formulado por Witten. Depois, consideramos a toeria clássica de campo de supercorda aberta que usa as variáveis RNS. Discutimos o problema da divergência que surge em termos de contato relacionados com "picture". O formalismo topológico permite construir uma ação para teoria de campos de supercorda que é do tipo WZW. Esta ação resolve o problema da divergência. Este fato é verificado com cálculo explícito da amplitude de espalhamento para quatro estados externos na camada da massa. Seguidamente, discutimos as branas não BPS, condensação do táquion e construimos os vértices com projeção GSO negativo para o táquion e o férmion não massivo usando variáveis híbridas. Finalmente incluimos o setor GSO (-) da supercorda numa ação generalizada do tipo WZW. / Abstract: Firstly we present a brief description of the covariant first quantized theories of string, RNS and GS superstring. Also we present a topological description of the superstring. Then we give an introduction to the classical open string field theory formulated by Witten. After that we cosnider the classical open superstring field theory using the RNS variables, we discuss the problem of the divergence that appears in contact terms that is related with picture. The topological formalism allow us to construct an action for the open superstring field theory which is WZW-like. This action solves the divergence problem, and we verify this fact by explicit computation of the scttering amplitude for four external on-shell states. Next, we discuss nonBPS D-branes, tachyon condensation and construct the GSO negative projected vertices for the tachyona and the massless fermion using hybrid variables. Finally we include the GSO (-) sector of the superstring in a generalized WZW-like action. / Doutor

In this work we review the basic principles of the theory of the relativistic bosonic string through the study of the action functionals of Nambu-Goto and Polyakov and the techniques required for their canonical, light-cone, and path-integral quantisation. For this purpose, we briefly review the main properties of the gauge symmetries and conformal field theory involved in the techniques studied. / Neste trabalho fazemos uma revisão dos princípios básicos da teoria da corda bosônica relativística através do estudo dos funcionais ação de Nambu-Goto e de Polyakov e das técnicas necessárias para sua quantização canônica, no cone de luz e usando integrais de trajetória. La symétrie conforme impose de très fortes contraintes sur les théories quantiques des champs. En deux dimensions, l’algèbre des symétries conformes est infinie, et les théories conformes bidimensionnelles peuvent être complètement résolubles, dans le sens où toutes leurs fonctions de corrélation peuvent être calculées. Ces théories ont un grand domaine d'application, de la théorie des cordes jusqu'aux systèmes critiques en physique statistique, et elles ont été largement étudiées pendant les dernières décennies.Dans cette thèse nous étudions les théories conformes bidimensionnelles dont l’algèbre de symétrie est celle de Virasoro, en suivant l'approche connue sous le nom de bootstrap conforme. Sous l'hypothèse de l'existence de champs dégénérés, nous généralisons le bootstrap conforme analytique aux théories avec des spectres non-diagonaux. Nous écrivons les équations qui déterminent les constantes de structure, et nous trouvons des solutions explicites en termes de fonctions spéciales. Nous validons ces résultats en faisant des calculs numériques des fonctions de corrélation à quatre points dans des modèles minimaux diagonaux et non-diagonaux, et en vérifiant que la symétrie de croisement est respectée.En outre, nous construisons une proposition pour une famille de théories conformes non-diagonales et non-rationnelles pour toute charge centrale telle que Re(c) < 13. Cette proposition est motivée par les limites des spectres des modèles minimaux de la série D. Nous réalisons des calculs numériques des fonctions à quatre points dans ces théories, et nous trouvons qu'elles obéissent à la symétrie de croisement. Ces théories peuvent être interprétées comme des extensions non-diagonales de la théorie de Liouville. / Conformal symmetry imposes very strong constraints on quantum field theories. In two dimensions, the conformal symmetry algebra is infinite-dimensional, and two-dimensional conformal field theories can be completely solvable, in the sense that all their correlation functions may be computed. These theories have an ample range of applications, from string theory to critical phenomena in statistical physics, and they have been widely studied during the last decades.In this thesis we study two-dimensional conformal field theories with Virasoro algebra symmetry, following the conformal bootstrap approach. Under the assumption that degenerate fields exist, we provide an extension of the analytic conformal bootstrap method to theories with non-diagonal spectrums. We write the equations that determine structure constants, and find explicit solutions in terms of special functions. We validate this results by numerically computing four-point functions in diagonal and non-diagonal minimal models, and verifying that crossing symmetry is satisfied.In addition, we build a proposal for a family of non-diagonal, non-rational conformal field theories for any central charges such that Re(c) < 13. This proposal is motivated by taking limits of the spectrum of D-series minimal models. We perform numerical computations of four-point functions in these theories, and find that they satisfy crossing symmetry. These theories may be understood as non-diagonal extensions of Liouville theory.

Quantum field theories are very good at describing the world around us but use complicated computations that cannot always be solved exactly. Introducing conformal symmetry to quantum field theory can reduce this complexity and allow for quite simple calculation in the best case. This report aims to describe the critical part of the Ising model in 2 dimensions using conformal field theory while assuming only some knowledge of quantum mechanics and complex analysis from the reader. This is done by using the book Conformal Field Theory as the source for information about conformal field theory. / Kvantfältteorier är mycket bra på att beskriva verkligheten runt om oss men de använder sig av avancerade beräkningar som inte alltid kan lösas exakt.
