Energy audit methodology for belt conveyors

Marx, Dirk Johannes, Lewies 11 April 2007 (has links)
The electricity cost is one of the largest components of operating costs on a belt conveyor system. This dissertation introduces a unique Conveyor Electricity Cost Efficiency Audit Methodology (CECEAM). In the CECEAM the conveyor system is evaluated from a high to detail level in order to identify opportunities to improve electricity costs. The CECEAM includes methodologies and tools developed to analyze not only the conveyor belt alone, but also the materials handling system as a whole. The outline of the dissertation is structured as follows: Chapter 1 includes the background and problem identification by means of a literature study. The main objective, as well as specific objectives, is defined in this chapter. In chapter 2, the CECEAM is introduced and an overview of the total methodology is discussed. The data acquisition part of the CECEAM; documentation, personnel, walk, technical audit as well as the conveyor database is discussed in chapter 3. Chapter 4 concentrates on the Conveyor Energy Conversion Model (CECM) and the verification thereof. The Integrated Conveyor Energy Model (ICEM) methodology is introduced (in chapter 5) and the economic evaluation concepts and energy management basics needed in the CECEAM are covered. Chapter 6 covers a CECEAM case study where the practical application of the CECEAM is illustrated with ICEM simulations, opportunity identification and recommendations. The conclusion and recommendations for further studies is proposed in chapter 7. / Dissertation (MSc (Electrical Engineering))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering / unrestricted

Vidareutveckling av sorteringsarm

Ljunggren, Jonathan January 2019 (has links)
This bachelor thesis deals with the implementation of a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Borås. The thesis work has been carried out for SGA Conveyor Systems, which manufactures and sells systems for more efficient package handling. The aim of the thesis was to develop an existing sorting arm, in order to improve the package flow. The further developed sorting arm would be presented in the form of a visual concept drawn in the software Autodesk Inventor. The concept would be further developed to the extent that the concept's functionality could be demonstrated. Furthermore, the concept would be presented with reasonable component recommendations. During the initial period of the project, decisions were made for the direction of further development. The decision was that the sorting arm should be set up in the form of a driving belt. The work began with the study of industry related literature. When a sufficiently large knowledge bank had been built up, the next step was to make demands on the upcoming product together with the client. With the requirements as a reference, solution proposals could then be generated in the form of concepts. The most suitable concept was selected and further developed within the framework of the work's objective. The degree project resulted in a visual concept being presented to the client. The concept meets the requirements set to a great extent and the possibility for an implementation can be considered credible.

3 DOF, LONG RANGE PLANAR LIFT AND SLIDE MICRO-CONVEYOR WITH VISION-BASED CONTROL SYSTEM

Ellerington, Neil 22 May 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to introduce a novel method of dry micro-object manipulation and to demonstrate predictable vision-based control. The Lift and slide conveyors presented utilize three main components: pads, lifters and a floating platform. The pads have a small planar displacement in the XY axis and lifters have a small Z axis displacement. Together they can be used to create minute displacements per cycle while carrying a floating platform that can hold the desired objects to be moved. These platforms can be handed off to other pad-lifter groups to create an unlimited planar envelope. Two degree of freedom control was established using LabView with open and closed loop routines. A model is presented that predicts the resonance frequencies with different loading and geometric characteristics to aid in design optimization for various applications. Parameters such as velocity, drift and traction are well characterized for different operating conditions.
