University affiliation as a strategy for higher education development: the case of the University of Botswana and its affiliated institutions

Nthaga, Phenyo January 2010 (has links)
Magister Educationis - MEd / The study examines the relationship of these institutions with the University of Botswana within the affiliation system. The issues that were investigated were related to the affiliation system in general, and whether it was beneficial to both the University of Botswana and the affiliated institutions. It was found from the study that the relationship is a symbiotic one. Furthermore, the study looked into the articulation of the programmes of the affiliated institutions with those of the University of Botswana. The issue of the level at which diplomates from the Affiliated Institutions join a degree programme at the University of Botswana was also discussed. The current system is that after three years of doing a diploma at an affiliated institution, the diplomate will join a degree programme at the University of Botswana at year two with a diploma that was awarded by the University of Botswana. As a result the diplomate will spend three more years on the degree programme. Moreover, the issue of semesterising the affiliated institutions' programmes, like those of the University of Botswana, was also looked into. Another issue considered was that of monitoring Quality Assurance in the affiliated institutions by the University of Botswana. / South Africa

Impact of a partnership programme of African universities: A study of the perceptions of a group of white South African academics of their learning experiences

Warner, Nan January 2004 (has links)
Magister Educationis - MEd / This research project was an in-depth case study, an investigation of a small sample of white South African male academics from the University of Cape Town who were part of the USHEPiA (University Science, Humanities, and Engineering Partnerships in Africa) initiative. The project investigated these University of Cape Town academics experiences and perceptions of another African country and university, and considered the effect that this might have had on the academic's own life. / South Africa

The effectiveness of public private partnerships : a project financier’s perspective

Zulu, Bongani 28 March 2010 (has links)
South Africa like many other countries is faced with the problem of infrastructure backlogs and budget constraints. The South African government through the National Treasury recognized the need to co-operate with the private sector in order to address this problem, by establishing the PPP unit. This research examined the role of financiers in facilitating the implementation of PPPs, as well as the factors that blunt the effectiveness of PPPs as infrastructure delivery mechanism in SA. The research was done through conducting semi-structured in-depth interviews with 18 experienced and knowledgeable stakeholders in the Private and Public sectors, who are and have been exposed to PPPs in South Africa. The findings on the success of PPPs as a medium for infrastructure delivery gave credence to the necessity and timeliness of this research. There was a difference of opinion as to the success or otherwise of PPPs between the Public Sector on the one hand and the Private Sector on the other. The major factors which facilitate the successful implementation of PPPs included financial innovation and discipline, technical competency, and supportive legislative framework. The major findings in respect of the inhibiting factors were skills shortage and political commitment Suggestions were made to stakeholders on minimizing the inhibitors. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

Úloha spolupráce v činnosti podniku cestovního ruchu ve vztahu ke specializaci vybraného podniku / The cooperation functions in tourism company activities in relation to the specialization of coosen company

Karkoš, Jaroslav January 2008 (has links)
The submitted thesis deals with the luxury 5-star hotel Radisson SAS Alcron. Its aim is to analyse the level of cooperation of the hotel, to suggest potential steps to its improvement, and also to find idle possibilities of cooperation which the hotel could apply in its entrepreneurial activities. The purpose of the thesis is also to asses to what degree the cooperation is influenced by specialization. The whole text is divided into 5 chapters whereas each of them deals with cooperation on different level, starting with international, through national to regional cooperation in tourism, and ending with an analysis of the cooperation of the hotel.

The Effects of Fines on Cooperation in a Four-Person Prisoner’s Dilemma Game

Morford, Zachary H. 08 1900 (has links)
Cooperation is an important area of investigation for behavior analysis. The prisoner’s dilemma game (PDG) provides a useful scenario for studying cooperation in a behavior analytic paradigm. The PDG can be coupled with the concept of the metacontingency to investigate how various contingency arrangements support and promote cooperation in a group. Players in this experiment participated in a PDG and, in some conditions, were given the ability to fine other players but could not talk. The goal of this experiment was to investigate how players’ ability to fine one another affected the players’ patterns of cooperation, and whether fining itself was affected by the addition of a shared group consequence. The data show that participants cooperated in some conditions, but the fines did not seem to affect players’ rates of cooperation.

Cooperative Cognitive Radio Systems over Nakagami-m Fading Channels

Hyadi, Amal 08 May 2013 (has links)
This thesis aims to investigate the incorporation of cooperative techniques in cognitive radio networks over Nakagami-m fading channels. These last years, spectrum sharing mechanisms has gained a lot of interest in the wireless communication domain. Using cooperation in a cognitive set up make the use of spectrum much more efficient. Moreover, it helps to extend the coverage area of the cognitive network and also to reduce the transmitting power and, thus, the generated interference. In this work, we consider two particular scenarios for cooperative cognitive radio systems. The first scenario consider multihop regenerative relaying in an underlay cognitive set up. The cooperation is performed in the secondary system, in the presence of multiple primary users. Both interference power and peak power constraints are taking into account. Closed-form expressions for the statistical characteristics and multiple end- to-end performance metrics are derived. Different scenarios are presented to illustrate the obtained results and Monte Carlo simulations confirm the accuracy of our analytical derivations. In the second part of this work, we consider an overlay cognitive network with the spectrally efficient two-phase two-way relaying protocol. Two relay selection techniques, optimizing both the primary and the secondary communication, are presented. The overall outage performance is investigated and an optimal power allocation scheme, that ameliorate the outage performance of the system, is proposed. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate and compare the obtained results.

Föräldrasamverkan (en jämförelse mellan två skolor)

Azizi-Sarwari, Fazila January 2014 (has links)
Slutsatserna kring intervjuerna presenteras i slutdiskussionen; t.ex. Decentraliseringen av skolsystemet … och min gamla undersökning 2008.
