The Effect of Perfectionism on Burnout and Turnover Intention

Wu, I-Chieh 27 December 2011 (has links)
In order to maintain higer competitive power, perfect quality of products and services are requested by enterprises nowadays. What¡¦s more , employees are the important media to carry out it.The media roles employees play are related to personal characteristics-perfectionism. We know that strive for perfectionism is native and inner need during development of human beings. In addition, the reasons which cause perfectionism are not only from rigorous standard of self but also possibly from others¡¦ stringent request or social expectation by significant others.Proper demand and standard are drives which make employees achieve their goals, however, extreme ones lead to burnout or high turnover intention .It deserved to be paid more attention to because they will diminish performance of organization, group and individuals, even bring about the loss of human capital. In this study,we will have the preliminary exploration of the relationship among perfectionism from different requiring sources, burnout and turnover intention.MBI was used mostly in past studies, nevertheless,it is criticized during these times and is possible not to measure the actural burnout result. To improve the situation,we use CBI instead in this study and look forward to observe the effect of perfectionism on burnout and turnover intention. Objets of this study are the full-time employees of science &technology, financial and service industry. We take the questionnaire survey method with convenient sampling to execute this study. Totally we sent out 334 numbers of paper copies and obtained 256 ones.Besides,we got 131 copies from on-line survey. Finally we have 364 valid samples out of the 387 combined sources. We adopted the hierarchical regression modeling to test the hypothesis. The findings are as the following¡GSelf-oriented perfectionism (SOP) is positively associated with personal burnout and personal burnout is also positively associated with turnover intention. However,SOP is negatively associated with turnover intention. This reveals that employees of SOP still have the possibility to increase their turnover intention owing to increasing personal burnout.Other-oriented perfectionism(OOP) shows no significant influence on burnout and is negatively associated with turnover intention.Social- prescribed perfectionism(SPP) is positively associated with both personal & job-related burnout and these two kinds of burnout are also positively related to turnover intention.Nevertheness,SPP can¡¦t predict the relationship with turnover intention directly.Further, burnout is not the mediator variable between perfectionism and turnover intention. Finally,we will offer concrete suggestions for following studies and practical implement .Research limitation is also included .

Psychometric properties of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory in a South African context

Smit, Anna Maria 15 May 2012 (has links)
Burnout is a prevalent problem in South Africa, affecting individuals and organisations in various industries. The study of burnout in South Africa is important in order to solve the burnout problem. Valid and reliable measurement instruments are necessary to conduct studies on burnout. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory was developed as a result of criticism against the most popular burnout measure, namely the Maslach Burnout Inventory. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory measures burnout in terms of three factors, namely personal burnout, work-related burnout and client-related burnout. Although the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory is a unique tool for the measurement of burnout, very little attention has been paid to determining the psychometric properties of this instrument. The purpose of the study was to determine whether the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory can be used as a valid and reliable measure for burnout in South Africa. The research methodology followed a quantitative survey research approach. A non-probability snowball sample of 215 respondents completed the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. Data obtained was used to conduct an exploratory factor analysis and internal reliability analysis. The study proved that the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory can be used in South Africa to measure two factors with high internal reliabilities, namely exhaustion (á=0.935) and client-related burnout (á=0.913). It is recommended that additional items based on withdrawal should be added to the work-related burnout scale of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. Such additional items might possibly lead to confirmation of the original three-factor model in a South African context. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Human Resource Management / unrestricted

Syndrom vyhoření - diagnostické možnosti (srovnávací studie) / Burnout syndrome - diagnostic possibilities (comparative study)

Vlachovská, Barbora January 2011 (has links)
The theoretical part deals with key issues of burnout - a definition, phase of syndrome, diagnostic classification, prevention, and mainly deals with the description of the methods by which the level of burnout is detected. Now probably the most common diagnostic tools are the MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory) and its derivatives (eg. MBI-General Survey), but there are many other methods, such as developed by Israeli and European psychologists (BoTeLis, OLBI, CBI, MBS, etc.). The goal is to assemble a relatively complete overview of these diagnostic tools. In the empirical part, is to verify the psychometric properties of Czech version of the selected methods on a set of population, describe and analyze their characteristics.

Syndrom vyhoření u vysokoškolských pedagogů - mezinárodní srovnávací studie / Burnout Syndrome in University Teachers - International Comparative Study

Černíková, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the phenomenon of burnout in university teachers, who have been previously rather neglected in connection with this topic. The theoretical part provides an analysis of current knowledge regarding the development of the concept of burnout from the very early interest in this issue in the 1970s to the present, with emphasis being placed on the teaching profession, especially in the tertiary education sector. In the empirical part of the research, the assumption of different levels of burnout in university teachers in the former Eastern Bloc and Western European country was tested. This international study compares the burnout level in teachers from the philosophy faculties of Czech Charles University and German Universität Regensburg. In order to achieve a more holistic view of this topic, the levels of life engagement and depression have been studied as well. The data were collected with the help of Copenhagen Burnout Inventory, Life Engagement Test, Beck Depression Inventory and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Basic research assumption predicting differences in levels of burnout, life engagement and depression in Czech and German university teachers was confirmed in only one burnout subscale, namely the subscale of student-related burnout. Additionally, the...
