Corporate reputation management : reconciling identity-image gaps

Tromp, Sallyanne Lindsey 16 March 2013 (has links)
A good corporate reputation is extremely valuable, and confers substantial benefits to the organisation. In order to better manage their corporate reputation, companies need to align their corporate identity and corporate image. Where they do not align and there are gaps, company directors need to identify and reconcile those identity-image gaps.In this research study, corporate reputation, and specifically image and identity, is investigated to understand whether there is gap between how the company views itself (corporate identity) and how it is viewed by its stakeholders (corporate image).Directors' perceptions of gaps between corporate identity and corporate image were explored through a qualitative research methodology that focussed on collecting primary data using an exploratory, phenomenological approach. Ten depth interviews were conducted with directors of companies operating in South Africa, who were selected through convenience sampling.A framework is proposed to assist the management of corporate reputation by reconciling identity-image gaps in companies. The core causes of these gaps are found in the company, the staff of the company, and in the external marketplace. Once these identity-image gaps are identified and acknowledged, mechanisms are proposed to reconcile the gaps through focusing on knowledge management, relationship management, communication, trust and implementation. / Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / unrestricted

Exploring the ethical identity of Islamic financial institutions via communication in the annual reports.

Haniffa, Roszaini M., Hudaib, Mohammad January 2007 (has links)
No / Islamic Banks (IBs) are considered as having ethical identity, since the foundation of their business philosophy is closely tied to religion. In this article, we explore whether any discrepancy exists between the communicated (based on information disclosed in the annual reports) and ideal (disclosure of information deemed vital based on the Islamic ethical business framework) ethical identities and we measure this by what we have termed the Ethical Identity Index (EII). Our longitudinal survey results over a 3-year period indicate the overall mean EII of only one IB out of seven surveyed to be above average. The remaining six IBs suffer from disparity between the communicated and ideal ethical identities. We further found the largest incongruence to be related to four dimensions: commitments to society; disclosure of corporate vision and mission; contribution to and management of zakah, charity and benevolent loans; and information regarding top management. The results have important implications for communication management if IBs are to enhance their image and reputation in society as well as to remain competitive.

Blinke, Emmy, Nilsson, Anna January 2014 (has links)
Aim: The purpose of this study is to create an understanding of how management in service companies work practically with the internal communication of the company's core values, vision and culture of the entire organization. Method: Empirical data were collected through interviews and therefore subject to the qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted on four different real estate brokerage firms. The collected data is then analyzed by an abductive method of analysis inspired by A well grounded theory. Result & Conclusions: The results from this study shows that it’s mainly about getting the organization to live the corporate identity in the everyday life. In order to succeed with this, companies is using different communication channels, training programs and inspirational activities, thus lectures and competitions. It is also important that the management appears admirably, and that the message of the brand is imbued in all corporate activities. Suggestions for future research: We suggest that future studies can be dedicated to how corporate brands monitoring its internal branding. Another proposal is to study the effects of internal brand building based on employees' perspective, as previous research indicates that employees may perceive the brand in different ways.Contribution of the thesis: Since there is no empirical studies related to internal branding, we believe that our contribution of this study is that we have created an understanding of how management in service companies communicates corporate identity internally within the organization. We have neither found any previous study that focused on the internal branding work exclusively in the real estate brokerage firm, and therefore believe that we have contributed knowledge to this industry.

Kratochvíl, Jaroslav January 2011 (has links)
A dissertation deals with small single-placed car body design (so-called microcar cathegory). The new design is based on the undercart and the engine of serial Mitsuoka Kit Car. Therefore the aim belongs to re-design tasks. Analytical part of the dissertation deals with two basic questions influencing the final draft. The Corporate identity at first and a problematic of the target group level of aesthetical perception linked to preferred design. On grounds of analysis the core values for new design have been set down. The particular values have been presented with the help of existing reference objects from the field of automotive design. This part also includes a questionnairy, which had been focused on prefered design conception. Due to low microcars topic awareness in Czech Republic, the questionnairy had informational character and the final design conception has been chosen on the base of functional aspects analysis. The final design development, shown on sketches and basic software renderings, is based on gradual steps that lead to the core values expression with regards to input parameters and basic design rules as well. The final design is introduced together with description of its technical solution and detailed design. The solution respects the mentioned target group and the institution Corporate Identity.
