Este trabalho busca entender qual é essa renovação e como ela ocorre. Para tanto, é necessário buscar entender como eram as obras narrativas na América Hispânica. O texto resgata estudos de Antonio Candido, Angel Rama e Antonio Cornejo Polar com a intenção de dar continuidade ao ímpeto do estudo literário como parte da luta pela descolonização. Em seguida, será feita a leitura dos primeiros contos do autor e da novela El pozo estudando a questão da urbanização e do novo ethos social. Por fim, estudaremos o gênero da novela a partir de estudos de Auerbach e Lukács para podermos aprofundar a análise de El pozo. / Onetti is understood by many as the beginning of what came to be called as “new Latin-American narrative”. This work seeks to understand what is this renovation and how this takes place. Thus, it is necessary to understand how the narrative works used to be in the Hispanic America. The text follows on studies from Antonio Candido, Angel Rama and Antonio Cornejo Polar with the intention to follow through the impetus of taking the literature study as part of the decolonization struggle. Following, there will be a reading of the author’s first short stories and his novella El pozo taking into account the question of urbanization and the new social ethos. Finally, the genre of the novella will be worked from studies made by Auerbach and Lukács in order to deepen El pozo analysis.

Through the political reading, this research tries to show that, far beyond a novel about a degenerated future by overpopulation, this book presents, in its formal contradictions, much from the social, political and economic global movement of which it is part. / Esta dissertação procura analisar o romance distópico The Wanting Seed (1962), do inglês Anthony Burgess com o objetivo de identificar de que maneira a estrutura e o desenvolvimento da obra aponta, em nível estético, o sentimento global de utopia, o que Fredric Jameson (2007) chama de desejo utópico ou impulso utópico, que está presente na vida cotidiana, na política, em movimentos sociais e revoluções. Por meio da leitura política, este trabalho procura mostrar que, muito além de um romance sobre um futuro degradado pela superpopulação, essa obra apresenta, em suas contradições formais, muito do movimento social, político e econômico global do qual é parte.

Diacronicamente, são analisados os romances O sertanejo, de José de Alencar, S. Bernardo, de Graciliano Ramos, e Grande Sertão: Veredas, de Guimarães Rosa. O objetivo da tese é demonstrar de que modo, ao longo do tempo, os antagonismos sociais próprios do Brasil rural foram transfigurados esteticamente pelos romances cuja matéria se formou na experiência rural brasileira. As pesquisas apontaram que, no cerne desses romances, encontra-se formalizado o conflito entre proprietários e despossuídos, em torno do qual gravitam temas a ele relacionados, como amor, violência, trabalho, liberdade e favor. O embasamento teórico advém da tradição crítica materialista dialética, especialmente Antonio Candido, Roberto Schwarz e Raymond Williams. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / This work consists of a study about the dialectics between literature and society in the Brazilian regionalist novel. Diachronically, the novels analyzed are O Sertanejo, by José de Alencar, S. Bernardo, by Graciliano Ramos, and Grande Sertão: Veredas, by Guimarães Rosa. The objective of this thesis is to demonstrate in which manner, as time goes by, the social antagonisms that are typical of rural Brazil were transfigured aesthetically by the novels whose matter has been formed by the Brazilian rural experience. Researches have pointed out that, at the center of these novels, we find in artistic form the conflict between property owners and the dispossessed, and around that conflict we see gravitating the themes related to it, such as love, violence, labor, freedom and favor-exchanging. The theoretical basis comes from the tradition of the dialectic and materialist criticism, specially Antonio Candido, Roberto Schwarz and Raymond Williams.
