This thesis describes an inquiry taken into the nature and genesis of landscapes experienced imaginally. The inquiry proceeds by introspection, by art making, and by exploring related writings. The terms pre-conceptual and pre-imaginal are used to refer to an unknowable dimension from which the conceptual and the imaginal rise, and attempts are made to confirm the conceptual and the imaginal as expressions and effects of this dimension. The possibilities of a continual interplay between the imaginal and the pre-imaginal in the inner life of writers and artists are explored. / Master of Arts (Hons)

The questions are:</p><p>* Which influence does creativity have on advertising?</p><p>* What are differences between prized advertisements and those that have not won any prizes?</p><p>* What opinion does the public have on creative advertising?</p><p><strong>Theory and previous research:</strong> The theoretical foundation of this essay is based on American studies of creative advertising. Theories regarding the public opinion on advertise is also included in the theoretical framework.</p><p><strong>Material and method:</strong> The method of the study is qualitative interview. Four personal interviews with creative directors and two focus-group interview have been done with students of mixed age and gender. The material consists of five creative adverts, prized during the twenty-first century in "Guldägget" ("the golden eggs"), a Swedish advertising competition.</p><p><strong>Result: </strong>Despite of the fact that the previous studies are critical; this study shows a constructive attitude to creative advertising by making it easier and funnier to absorb. The conditions are that creativity has to be rightful proportioned and not too poetical, otherwise it can prevent the recipient from getting the message.</p><p><strong>Keywords:</strong> Advertising agencies, Award winner, Creative ability, Audience attitude.</p>

Self-concept and creative potential of urban parochial school children : analysis by grade, race, and socio-economic status

The purpose of this study was to analyze scores of urban parochial elementary school pupils for The Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Scale (behavior, intellectual/school status, and anxiety) and for the Torrance Tests of Creativity (fluency, originality, and elaboration). Second, differences between groups divided according to grade, race, and socioeconomic status (SES) were examined. Third, relationships between self-concept and creative potential were investigated. The sample population included 163 pupils, grades 1-6, in a large midwestern city. Multivariate and univariate analysis of variance were used to test four null hypotheses applying the .05 level of confidence.Findings1. Significant differences were found in mean scores obtained by the total group of parochial school pupils indicating more positive self-concepts and lower degree of creativity when compared with the normative population for the two instruments employed.2. No statistical differences were found between primary and intermediate levels for the total group nor for the non-black subgroup. When the subgroup of Blacks was examined separately, differences indicated that intermediate pupils scored significantly higher in creativity than Blacks at the primary level.3. No statistically significant differences were found between any of the groups when divided between high and low socio-economic status.4. Differences were evidenced within certain subgroups when the subjects were divided into Black/non-black groups on the following variables on the Piers-Harris instrument (behavior and anxiety) and on the Torrance instrument (fluency, originality, and elaboration).Conclusions1. Positive self-concept revealed by the sample might be associated with environmental factors, school setting, selectivity of the study body and influence as reference group, philosophical foundations of the parochial schools, or other contributing factors.2. Lower degree of creativity could result from environmental atmosphere, academic expectations of the schools, and/or parential influences.3. Differences evidenced by Blacks on the variables (behavior, anxiety, fluency, originality, and elaboration) might be related to the influences of peer/referent groups, particularly in intermediate grades.4. Parochial school attendance appears to be a stabilizing influence in self-concept of behavior.5. Black students showed an increase in spontaneity and confidence in measures of creative tendencies. How this related to a reduction in positive experiences of self-concept is less obvious.Recommendations for additional research were provided.

Creative people are most valuable treasures of a nation. In order to cope with the complicated problems of the rapidly changing and developing modern life and to ensure that the society makes progress via new breakthroughs and inventions, we need creative individuals. Thus, the research on creativity in the school environment where creativity takes its roots from is crucial. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the extent to which personality traits, motivation, academic risk-taking and metacognition explain the mathematical creative ability of high school students. The study was carried out during the fall semester of 2011-2012 academic year at two science high schools and a private high school. A total of 217 preparatory and ninth grade students were involved in the study. The participants completed a set of measures about personality traits, motivation, academic risk-taking, metacognition and creative ability in mathematics. Standard multiple regression analysis was conducted to evaluate how well the independent variables predicted creative ability in mathematics. The results revealed that openness to experience and consciousness were significantly correlated with creative ability in mathematics. However, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism were not correlated with creativity scores. Moreover, intrinsic goal orientation followed by openness to experience was the most significant predictor of mathematical creative ability. Yet, academic risk-taking was not significantly correlated with creative ability. Although knowledge of cognition and regulation of cognition showed moderate correlations with creative ability in mathematics, they failed to predict creative ability in multiple regression equation.

Place marketing and the antecedents of sustainable competitive places

The effect of globalization is recognized as the impetus which is forcing places to compete globally. Place marketing approach is an alternative for places to attract their target markets. Review on past literature indicates sustainable competitive concept is a possible solution to handling problem of place competition. The gap in knowledge indicated by rare studies on sustainable competitiveness implies the need to identify factors that describe sustainable competitive places. The sustainable competitive concept is explained through the assessment of the roles and the relationships among factors of place sustainability, place competitiveness, place attachment, place satisfaction, and place loyalty. Conceptual model of sustainable competitive factors demonstrates the relationships of these factors. Quantitative technique based on samples of two medium-sized Malaysian cities provides usable data on residents’ perception of the sustainable competitive factors. Variance based Structural Equation Modeling reveals the conceptual model’s explanatory power and predictive capability to explain sustainable competitiveness of places. The findings mark the importance of place attachment in explaining sustainable competitive places. Economic and social factors are the main components of place sustainability, and quality of life is the main component of place competitiveness. The findings reveal place loyalty as the main factor that influences sustainable competitive place. Inconsistencies in the conclusions of previous studies suggest that they fail to notice the aspect of attachment as an important predictor in investigating place - human relationships. Implications of the thesis findings are given to policymakers.
