This thesis analyzes policy measures taken to curb the private sector credit growth in the period 2003-08. The thesis evaluates the excessiveness of the credit development in the CEE with respect to macroeconomic fundamentals. Based on the results, menu of policy options to counter adverse effects of the credit boom is reviewed. The analysis is based on a survey performed on eleven central banks in the region. The findings reveal high intensity of policy intervention: altogether 82 measures were taken in CEE in the period. Deriving from the country experiences, the thesis argues that in order to eliminate adverse impacts, policy measures should include combination of monetary and prudential tools with special emphasis on domestic environment and role of foreign banks in the CEE region.

This study was designed to investigate the influence of social class on activity and attitude patterns relative to bank credit card usage by selected households of the Muncie-Delaware County (Indiana) Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. The universe surveyed in this thesis consisted of respondents all known to have one basic characteristic -current or previous possession of a bank credit card.The data were collected by personal interview of 139 bank credit card recipient households in the studied area. Interviews were performed with a structured, non-disguised questionnaire providing guidance.The responses in all surveyed areas were analyzed according to the respondents' social class membership. Factors utilized to determine social class position were occupation, source of income, education, and house type.Although bank credit cards served as the central focus of the study, possession and usage of other types of credit cards by respondent households were surveyed. The thesis explored activity and attitudes relative to usage of department store and oil company credit cards.

Research report to SBL, Unisa, Midrand. / Credit risk has been identified as the main risk that can result in the failure of a bank due to ineffective credit decisions. It is, therefore, critical for the banks to conduct credit risk assessment on new applicants and existing customers in order to determine the level of affordability and mitigate credit risk. Consumer credit information plays a very important role in credit risk assessment because it can accurately detect and predict default. The aim of this study was to investigate the consequences of inaccurate credit information on bank’s secured lending division. The investigation was conducted using various methods to achieve the objectives of this research. This was done through the exploration of literature review relating to research of the management of consumers credit information in developed and developing countries, and secured lending and inaccurate credit data. A quantitative research methodology was adopted. It was observed that credit risk is seen as the key risk that banks are faced with. It was found that inaccurate consumer credit data can have a negative impact on bank’s operations in terms of consumer’s disputes, higher pricing and consumer overindebtedness. In addition, inaccurate consumer credit data impede access to credit by consumers. One of the general recommendations of this research is that banks should assist in training the consumers to improve their knowledge of credit report. Further studies in the area of corporate or business clients are also recommended as the focus of this research was on individual bank’s clients.

The objective of this project is to investigate and model the quantitative connection between market prices of credit default swaps and the market perceived probability and timing of default by the underlying borrower. We quantify the credit risk of a borrower in a two-way relationship: calculate the term structure of default probabilities from the market prices of traded CDSs and calculate prices of CDSs from the probability distribution of the time-to-default.

A Study on Behavior of Credit Card Holders in Taiwan ¢w After Bank Credit Crunch

The study is based on the financial statistics published by the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) to analysis the behavior of Taiwan credit cardholders after the dual card crisis and the global financial storm. In the meantime, the data as of September and November 2008 is applied to examine the impact of credit cardholders in different segments who have cash needs after the regulation implementation. The study concludes that: 1. The behavior of credit cardholders impacted by the dual card crisis and the global financial storm Using various statistical charts and one-way ANOVA analysis can be found that after the dual card crisis and global financial storm, the revolving credit balance of credit card market reduced year by year. Obviously, a correct concept of card usage is established gradually. Cardholders should not only enjoy the convenience of credit card, but also control the burden of over spending. 2. The cash advance amount deteriorated due to FSC regulation implementation After a series of guided actions launched by FSC, people no longer rely on credit card as a financing tool but treat it as a payment implement. The amount of cash advance shrink while the cardholders who have cash advance need get financing from personal loan. 3. The impact is various between each segment by regulation Using Independent-Sample T Test, it is found that there are no significant differences in credit card cash advance features for cardholders who have debt burden ratio greater than 22 times of the monthly income, the internal employee, and cardholders whose credit line is greater than NT$800,000.
