No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2015-01-19 / Male domination, or machismo, has typified families throughout Latin societies for generations, but the economic and cultural forces that once gave rise to mancentric family dynamics may now be shifting. In Ceará, Brazil, a two-phase study of paternal perspectives on family dynamics and infant health, which took place between November 2014 and January 2015, reveals three distinct variations of fatherly participation (or lack thereof) in families: dominant, complimentary, and burdensome. As well, the study exposes the double-sided nature of new technologies: either further uniting family members or further mystifying men s roles. The variations of family dynamics show the father as dominant, complimentary, or burdensome in the family. Interviewees and respondents to the ecological study alike express the belief that families comprise a multilayered system of membership, of which the mother, father, and child roles form the most basic level. The influences on families extend, however, to overarching societal influences such as rising technologies and religious institutions. The fathers even convey their expectations that public health interventions, especially those relating to their children s wellness, capitalize on nascent technologies most explicitly, widely available cellular phone services. The conclusion that the father plays an integral role in determining child health outcomes remains clear. The fathers explanation of variations in paternal influence can help shape our understanding of emergent family trends in the region as well as guide the ways in which future public health interventions and policies should be designed. / A dominação masculina, ou machismo, tem tipificado famílias em sociedades latinas por gerações, mas as forças econômicas e culturais que, no passado, deram origem à dinâmica familiar centrada no homem estão, agora, mudando. No Ceará, Brasil, entre novembro de 2014 e janeiro de 2015, um estudo composto de duas fases sobre perspectivas paternas na dinâmica familiar e saúde infantil revela três variações distintas de participação paterna (ou falta dela) nas famílias: o pai dominante, complementar e oneroso. Ademais, o estudo expõe a função dupla de novas tecnologias: ou unir mais membros de famílias ou mistificar mais os papéis dos homens. As variações de dinâmica familiar mostram o pai como membro dominante, complementar ou oneroso na família. Os entrevistados e os respondentes ao estudo ecológico expressam a crença de que as famílias se compõem de um sistema multi-dimensionado, no qual a mãe, o pai e os filhos formam o nível mais básico. As influências sobre famílias estendem, no entanto, às influências sociais mais abrangentes, tais como instituições religiosas e novas tecnologias. Os patriarcas também explicitam suas expectativas de que as intervenções na saúde pública, em especial as que são relativas ao bem-estar de seus filhos, beneficiam das tecnologias nascentes particularmente dos serviços de telefonia celular amplamente disponíveis na região. A conclusão de que o pai tem um papel decisivo acerca da saúde dos filhos permanece clara. A explicação dos pais das variações de influência paterna pode ajudar a moldar o nosso entendimento das tendências familiares emergentes no Nordeste, bem como orientar as maneiras pelas quais as intervenções e políticas públicas de saúde devem ser projetados no futuro.

Na prática de contadora de histórias, percebemos que crianças têm grande intimidade com o ouvir/contar histórias e, no trabalho com o ensinoaprendizagem de língua espanhola com adultos brasileiros, vivenciamos situações que evidenciam a singular proximidade que se estabelece entre português e espanhol. No entanto, toda nossa experiência como professora referia-se a adultos. Mas como seria a recepção do espanhol no universo infantil? Seria possível aproveitar esse prazer das crianças pelas histórias e fazer desse caminho uma forma de introdução do espanhol como língua estrangeira para crianças falantes de português? Com esses questionamentos iniciais presentes, constatamos que há pouca bibliografia sobre a temática e, no percurso de nosso trabalho, buscamos fundamentação teórica em estudos sobre gêneros discursivos, linguística textual e em reflexões acerca das proximidades e distanciamentos que se estabelecem entre as línguas portuguesa e espanhola. Embasamo-nos em trabalhos de Bakhtin (2004), Bronckart (1999), Charaudeau (1992), Dolz & Schneuwly (1996), Marcuschi (2002), Fiorin (2006) e Perroni (1992) para a explanação sobre os limites e a abrangência do conceito de gênero; nas descrições feitas por Celada (2002), Fanjul (2002) e Almeida Filho (1995) para compreendermos as aproximações e distanciamentos entre as línguas espanhola e portuguesa; nos estudos de Marcuschi (2004) e Koch (2003) no que diz respeito às considerações acerca da relação entre fala e escrita. Formulamos da seguinte maneira nossas perguntas de pesquisa: 1. A prática de contação de histórias poderia ser caracterizada como um gênero discursivo na perspectiva bakhtiniana? In the storytelling practice, we have noticed that children are very close to listening to/telling stories and, by dealing with Brazilian adults in the Spanish language teaching-learning process, we come up with situations that show the noticeable proximity between Portuguese and Spanish. However, all of our experience as a teacher was related to adults. How would be the Spanish reception in the children's universe? Would it be possible to take advantage of the children's pleasure in stories and have it as a way to introduce the Spanish language as a foreign language to children who speak Portuguese? Having these questions in mind, we noticed that there is lack of bibliography about this theme and, throughout the study, we search for theoretical base through the studies of the discursive genres, the textual linguistics and reflections on the proximity and distance between Portuguese and Spanish languages.
