Tais paratextos se apresentam como elementos constituintes de seu projeto literário. Da coleção de obras dedicadas, enviadas entre as décadas de 1960 e 1990, elegemos alguns paratextos os quais abordam assuntos como o mercado editorial brasileiro da época supracitada, as filiações literárias do dedicatário (João Antônio), conhecidas pelos dedicadores, a profissionalização do escritor e outras que mostram os laços afetivos, de respeito e de admiração que os autores tiveram pelo contista. De um lado, autores como Jorge Amado, Caio Porfírio Carneiro e Cassiano Nunes, com suas respectivas dedicatórias, trazem à discussão as questões referenciadas acima. Por outro lado, a escolha de outros nomes, como os de Clarice Lispector, Cleonice Rainho, Nélida Piñon e Nelly Novaes Coelho, evidencia os posicionamentos de autoras brasileiras frente à produção literária nacional, cuja criação de autoria feminina demonstra os modos como se inseriram num universo marcadamente masculino, tendo em vista o maior número de autores publicados. Por meio desses dedicadores, portanto, verticalizamos nossa análise a partir das produções de escritores contemporâneos a João Antônio, permeadas pelos assuntos das dedicatórias, permitindo que se apresentem como elementos constituintes da formação do projeto literário desse escritor / Abstract: The present research analyses the contents of the dedications sent to João Antonio (1937-1996) by some renowned writers who had contact with the author from São Paulo. Such dedications appear as constituent elements of the story writer's literary project. From the collection of dedicated works, sent between the decades of 1960 and 1990, we have selected some paratexts. They approach themes like the Brazilian editorial market at the mentioned time, João Antônio's literary affiliations, his professionalization as a writer and others, that show the affection, respect and admiration links towards the addressee. Authors like Jorge Amado, Caio Porfirio Carneiro and Cassiano Nunes, with their respective dedications bring to discussion the themes above referred to. The dedications sent by Clarice Lispector, Cleonice Rainho, Nélida Piñon and Nelly Novaes Coelho, on the other hand, show the position of Brazilian female authors in face of the national literary production and whose creations show the ways they inserted themselves into a universe remarkably masculine, having in view the greater number of male authors published. From the context of authors who sent dedications, our research will attain to the paratexts whose authors were contemporary to João Antônio, for our goal is to demonstrate in what degree the dedications can be seen as constituent elements of this story writer's literary project formation / Doutor

In this thesis, I examine Gwendolyn Brooks’s diptych poems “Two Dedications” from her 1968 collection In the Mecca. Critical accounts of “Two Dedications” cast the poems as fixed oppositions between “frivolous” Western art and inspiring, communal black art. I propose that such binaries are reductive and overlook the intellectual benefits Brooks locates in abstract modernist art. Using Ezra Pound’s theories of modernist difficulty, Walter Benjamin’s concept of artistic “aura,” and the Black Arts Movement (BAM) manifestoes of Ron Karenga and Larry Neal, I argue that Brooks’s poems demonstrate the benefits of both abstract Western art and representational BAM art. Specifically, Brooks suggests that both types of art provide avenues for self-determination and liberation from institutional conventions.

Cette étude vise d'abord à dresser un tableau des foyers du patronage scientifique et technique. Le patronage aristocratique grandiose semble être une ressource rare et se trouve concurrencé par des formes de protection plus coutumières. L' État reste le grand dispensateur des faveurs ! s'il n'existe pas d'administration des sciences et des techniques, les monarchies offrent aux savants et techniciens plusieurs perspectives d'emplois alors que les préoccupations militaires et culturelles suscitent le développement de plusieurs chantiers de recherche. En dépit de cette disposition croissante des administrateurs à soutenir les entreprises savantes, l'accès aux faveurs du souverain reste très concurrentiel, comme le montre la querelle des longitudes autour des propositions de Jean-Baptiste Morin. Enfin, les techniciens sollicitent de manière croissante une autre forme de protection : le privilège d'invention, qui donne souvent lieu à la création d'entreprises techniques. La dernière partie de ce travail montre que la conquête du marché semble se nourrir de la faveur davantage que de l'innovation / This study first intends to map out the various modalities of scientific and technical patronage. Grand aristocratic patronage is rarely granted and is rivaled by more customary forms of protection. The State remains the greatest bestower of favours. Even if sciences and techniques are not supported by any administrative structures, monarchies give scientists and technicians several occupational perspectives while the State’s military and cultural preoccupations spark the development of various fields of research. Despite the administrators’ growing tendency to support scholarly enterprises, the access to the sovereign’s favours remains very competitive, as is shown through the longitude quarrel, which breaks out in relation to the work of the astrologer Jean-Baptiste Morin. Lastly, technicians increasingly appeal for another form of protection - the privilege of invention, which often results in the creation of technical enterprises. The last part of this study shows that the conquest of the marketplace tends to be spurred by favours more than by innovation

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / O presente trabalho busca analisar a prática do oferecimento de dedicatórias impressas em um Brasil que acabava de se tornar impressor. As dedicatórias, representativas das práticas de homenagem e das relações de mecenato, são símbolo das relações políticas apoiadas na hierarquia vigente, e das trocas efetuadas na busca por poder e influência. Em uma época onde viver da própria pena constituía um desafio, era necessário utilizar-se das convenções para adquirir patrocínio e proteção, e o oferecimento público de lealdade e submissão através das páginas dos livros abria possibilidades de inclusão na sociedade de corte e de aquisição das benesses reais. A abertura da Impressão Régia contribuiu como nenhuma outra medida para o despertar da vida cultural da nova corte, atuando na circulação de escritos, de idéias, e de relações de sociabilidade. Nesse ambiente, a necessidade de conquistar as boas graças do soberano para obter prestígio fez com que as primeiras publicações do início do oitocentos já contassem com páginas destinadas às dedicatórias, cujo tom laudatório visava a convencer sobre o merecimento de mercês e favores. Muitas das obras publicadas Impressão Régia no período foram explicitamente dedicadas a alguma figura social ou política importante, e um número expressivo dirigiu-se ao soberano D. João. Muitos letrados alcançaram uma trajetória bem sucedida, outros não conquistaram sucesso; mas a utilização dos elogios impressos ao longo da carreira literária de muitos permite observar que a prática atravessou o oceano com a Família Real, e perdurou ao longo do oitocentos no Brasil. / The present work seeks to analyze the offering of printed dedications in a Brazil that just begun to print. These dedications, representative of reverence and patronage, are symbols of politics relations based on the effective hierarchy, and of the exchanges seeking power and influence. In a time when live of its own quill was a challenge, it was necessary to make use of the conventions to acquire sponsorship and protection, and the public offer of loyalty and submission through the pages of the books was opening means of inclusion in the court society of and of acquisition of the royal emoluments. The opening of the Royal Impression contributed like no another measure to the awakening of the cultural life of the new court, acting in the circulation of written, of ideas, and of relations of sociability. In this environment, the necessity of conquering the good graces of the sovereign to obtain prestige implicated that the first publications of the beginning of the 19th century disposed already of pages been intended for the dedications, whose laudatory tone it was aiming to convince on the merit of indults and favors. A great deal of the works published by the Royal Impression in the period were explicitly dedicated to some important social or politics figures, and an expressive number went to a sovereign D. John. Many scholars achieved a quite succeeded trajectory, others did not conquer success; but the use of the praises printed along the literary trajectory of many people allows to notice that the practice crossed the ocean with the Real Family, and it lasted a long time along eight hundred in Brazil.
