Open Air Market in Old Town Alexandria

Iriarte, Miguel Angel 16 July 2002 (has links)
This book presents the values of my architecture that were made visible through an open air market in Old Town Alexandria. In this work the stalls of each of the vendors was thought of anthropomorphically as a monster. The form of these monsters were identical at first and in the end had the blessing of the particular needs of the goods being sold and residences above the market as well as the site to give identity to each market. In the end a healthy relationship was made with a neighborhood of monsters to take care of the needs of the neighborhood. / Master of Architecture

Characterization of Johne's disease in Mississippi cattle

Carter, Jesse Lee 09 August 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to characterize Johne’s disease in Mississippi cattle. Nine hundred eighteen animals from 23 sale barns in Mississippi were tested for Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). Ten milliliters of blood and 4-10 grams of feces were collected from cattle over two years of age presented to the attending auction veterinarian. Information obtained at the time of collection included the animal’s sex, type, and reproductive status. Serum samples were screened by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for MAP. Shedding status was determined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on corresponding fecal samples. Overall, 17.3% (4/23) of sale barns had at least one animal sero-positive for MAP and 0.54% (5/918) were PCR positive. These results show a Johne’s disease prevalence similar to the estimate of 0.4% of animals infected found by the USDA NAHMS Beef ‘97 study, emphasizing the need for continued prevention and control practices.

Construction of a 3D Object Recognition and Manipulation Database from Grasp Demonstrations

Kent, David E 09 April 2014 (has links)
Object recognition and manipulation are critical for enabling robots to operate within a household environment. There are many grasp planners that can estimate grasps based on object shape, but these approaches often perform poorly because they miss key information about non-visual object characteristics, such as weight distribution, fragility of materials, and usability characteristics. Object model databases can account for this information, but existing methods for constructing 3D object recognition databases are time and resource intensive, often requiring specialized equipment, and are therefore difficult to apply to robots in the field. We present an easy-to-use system for constructing object models for 3D object recognition and manipulation made possible by advances in web robotics. The database consists of point clouds generated using a novel iterative point cloud registration algorithm, which includes the encoding of manipulation data and usability characteristics. The system requires no additional equipment other than the robot itself, and non-expert users can demonstrate grasps through an intuitive web interface with virtually no training required. We validate the system with data collected from both a crowdsourcing user study and a set of grasps demonstrated by an expert user. We show that the crowdsourced grasps can produce successful autonomous grasps, and furthermore the demonstration approach outperforms purely vision-based grasp planning approaches for a wide variety of object classes.

Brazil’s Awake, Sweden’s Asleep? : De brasilianska demonstrationerna i svensk press juni-juli 2013

Hermansson, Vitor January 2014 (has links)

Scaffolding lesson report

Bonnewell, Tiffany M. January 1900 (has links)
Master of Music / Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance / Ruth Gurgel / In the lesson clip shown, students are learning to count rhythms containing rests using the Eastman counting method. The learning target is to prepare students to "count sing" during rehearsals in their advanced choir next school year. During my time at Kansas State University, I have learned several things that have greatly changed the way I conduct a classroom rehearsal. I have begun to pre-teach more, make corrections immediately, and design lessons with more accountability and differentiation.
