Mantovani Junior, Milton. January 2006 (has links)
Abstract: This study objective was to histologically evaluate chitosan and bioactive glass effect on critical size bone defects created in dogþs mandibles, associated to osseointegrated implants. For this, it were utilized 8 young adult, without defined race dogs, that underwent third and fourth inferior premolars extractions, bilaterally. After 12 weeks, in extraction sites, it were installed two Ticp implants of 3.3 x 10.0 mm, followed by the creation of a 4mm diameter and 5mm depth cylindrical bone defects, buccally to each implant. The 8 animals were divided into 4 groups: Group I - Negative control (Blood clot), Group II - Defect filled with autogenous bone graft, Group III - Defect filled with Bioactive glass and Group IV - Defect filled with chitosan gel. It was realized bone biopsies at 15 and 90 days, in a total amount of 4 biopsies by biomaterial/period, that were processed and evaluated under histological descriptive analysis. As a result, it was observed, at 15 days, the formation of a fibrous tissue in the negative control group, and in the groups treated with autogenous bone graft, chitosan and Bioactive glass, it was observed dense pattern bone neoformation, with bone marrow spaces filled with fibrous tissue, of variable sizes and forms, with compact bone trabecules. At 90 days, it was observed the maturation of the new formed bone in these three groups. In group III (Bioactive glass), at 90 days, there is still the presence of the biomaterial. In group IV, in most specimens, the biomaterial was degenerated. / Orientador: Marisa Aparecida Cabrini Gabrielli / Coorientador: Valfrido Antonio Pereira Filho / Banca: Luiz Antônio Borelli Barros / Banca: Joubert Magalhães de Pádua / Mestre
