Designing the Mobile Web: Guidelines for User Interactionand Experience

Ring, Lisa January 2013 (has links)
The area of mobile web is evolving rapidly but there are still no consensus regarding recommendations or best practices within the topic. Therefore this thesis is focused on interaction design within mobile web and compiles many dierent theories into guidelines for mobileweb design. The thesis may also be used as a foundation when deciding whether to developa native mobile application or a mobile adapted web application, or when choosing betweena separate mobile web application and a responsive web design.Components that are especially considered in this thesis are form elements and navigation menus. These are discussed relative to interaction on small touch screens such as smartphones and tablets. For example, text input elements can be optimized for the intended input format and one can take advantage of the device's native components for e.g. time and date input. A prototype of a responsive web application is also developed to further exemplify the theoretical theories. This is a exploratory study for the Swedish magazine Resume in collaboration with The Mobile Life and is focused on convert the original site into a responsive design, but still retain the overall Resume look and feel.

Facilitating the Information Exchange Between Parents and Personnel at Preschools by Gathering Quantitative Data

Markus, Johansson January 2014 (has links)
The information exchange between parents and personnel at preschools is held informally and mainly when the child is departed from the preschool. Interviews with parents and personnel at preschools were made to find out what this exchange consists of, what factors affect it, and if there are parts that may be improved by making them digital. Through these interviews, the information need was extracted and analyzed, and factors affecting the information exchange were identified. Parts of these findings where compiled into asoftware idea as an extension to the software for preschools provided by Tempus Information Systems ab, where this master’s thesis was conducted.Requirements for the software were gathered and prioritized. Prototypes were made, tested, and evaluated leading to the development of a web application. The application supports input of chosen parts of the information need in order to make it accessible forparents. It is intended to be used by the personnel and to run on a tablet mounted on thewall, helping their everyday tasks, as well as being a service to parents of smaller children. This information could then be retrieved by the parents when the child is departed from theTempus Touch software at the preschool, thus freeing the information exchange to qualitative matters about the child’s well-being. It could also be accessible through the Tempus web or mobile application while at home.

Big Data - Small Device: AMobile Design Concept fo rGeopolitical Awareness when Traveling

Sonning, Sabina January 2013 (has links)
This work explores an application concept for small mobile devices, displaying structured "Big Data" based on human web reporting. The target user is a traveler interested in geopolitical events in the visited region and the concept focuses on high level signals to describethe situation and allows for following up, down to original reporting sources. Interviews and a survey was used to investigate the target user group's current behavior and needs while traveling and in unstable regions. The design process is described in reference to interaction design practices and successful applications on the market today, resulting in aconcept presented in the form of high fidelity sketches, well documented interaction style and transitions, and a clickable low delity prototype. The work can be used as a reference document for further development.

Design och konstruktion av strandspel

Kattem, Martin, Ngo, Kevin January 2013 (has links)
This project was conducted during the spring semester 2013 at mechanical engineering program at University Halmstad. The project was conducted in collaboration with MPQ Consulting in Halmstad. MPQ Consulting is a newly established company looking to take step into the product development world. The company has already had ideas and existing products. One of the ideas is to construct and design a form of beach games whose rules are based on the volleyball rules. The project includes the development of a prototype. The project originates from the specific requirements and preferences MPQ has specified. Then continue to work with new and relevant requirements. The goal is to show off a prototype of graduation show at the end of the semester. The study includes market research, criteria development, idea generation, and evaluation and design drawings. All parts and phases should provide a concept and a basis for a future product.

A.R.T. | Atmospheric. Retail. Therapy.

Garcia, Marina 11 July 2015 (has links)

Few activities today force us to interact in the way shopping does. Most retail stores today lack creativity and freshness because they do not provide a stimulating and personal experience. Shopping has been, and continues to be, a big factor within the urban landscape. Some would consider it to be the “last remaining form of public activity.” There is also a great need for more public space that encourages “existential existence.” As we exist in the World, we seek out a type of collective dwelling that gives us a sense of individuality. Retail can be a collaborative space that nourishes participation and allows for a meaningful experience.

This thesis proposes a fashion retail space in which art, inspiration, and exchange can thrive in the public realm of consumerism. Through the “essence of experience” patrons will have a higher understanding of fashion as art. Once this is accomplished the relationship of fashion to the social pulse can be felt. We benefit from unique and memorable experiences; in fact they allow us to achieve our sense of self and “existential existence.” Shopping has become one of the most common activities in which people are forced to interact with others. Thus, a retail space is where art, inspiration, and memory thrive. Through the “essence of experience” patrons can have a higher understanding of fashion as art. An overlap exists in ‘existential spatiality’ and the creation of art. Fashion and architecture are interpretations of societal situations and revelations. Experiencing fashion will clearly illustrate this connection for patrons within this space.

The “body of architecture” is a direct reference to the human body framework it provides. Through the play of various volumetric and architectural elements, this space will create a feeling or mood that promoting emotional satisfaction. Material compatibility is critical for both garment and spatial design. Composure and seduction, architects compose movement within a space, fashion designers compose movement of the human silhouette. Scale and light are other elements that run parallel to architecture and fashion. All these things produce memory, as well as impact who we are to become and the quality of how we exist. This project will be a mix of gallery, lab, retail and performance space, resulting in an existential space.

Non-family caregiver perspectives on current and future Alzheimer's care facilities in London, Ontario

Cooper, Natalie M 10 September 2014 (has links)
Non-family caregivers are healthcare professionals who work with individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Focusing on non-family caregiver perspectives, the research in this thesis provided an opportunity to explore ways they perform their jobs and interact with residents in the built environment. Non-family caregiver’s knowledge and experience with spatial advantages and disadvantages provides important information that could be used in the design of future AD care facilities. Unfortunately, there appears to only be a small number of peer reviewed publications about interior design research focusing specifically on design for AD. The literature is limited on the topic of non-family caregivers and how their knowledge and experience may contribute to the design process and impact the outcome of the built environment. In order to respond to these challenges, designers should give consideration to the benefits associated with engaging the input of those who work closely with individuals in AD care environments.

Bendrijos dizainas: Vidaus rinkos harmonizavimo tarnybos ir EB teismų praktika / Community design: case law of the office of harmonization for the internal market and ec courts

Kasiulynas, Laurynas 23 June 2014 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Council Regulation (EC) No 6/2002 of 12 December 2001 on Community designs introduced a new legal instrument – the Community design. Before that, the essential legal aspects of design law were harmonized by Directive 98/71/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 October 1998 on the legal protection of designs. Regulation provides protection for design which meets two conditions: novelty and individual character. Both criteria are ambiguous in their application, among other things it is required to disclosure other legal concepts which are not elaborated by Regulation: the informed user, the designer's freedom, the overall impression. Due to vague criterions the differences between the Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market and the Community courts’ case law emerges, which in turn determines the unequal levels of protection of Community design throughout the European Union. This problem requires evaluation of both the Office and the courts’ case law in order to determine what requirements are treated different or the same, and moreover, how such concepts appear in context of the doctrine. Master thesis deal with the most common grounds for invalidity of the Community design. This choice is determined by the circumstance, that grounds for invalidity define the limits of validity of the design because the Office only carries out only the examination of formal requirements (compliance with the definition of design and public order and good morals). The... [to full text]
