Investigation Of Constructional Design Efficiency Of Residential Buildings Made With Autoclaved Aerated Concrete

The aim of this study was to investigate the quantifiable planimetric design efficiency of residential buildings designed to be built with &amp / #147 / Autoclaved &AElig / rated Concrete&amp / #148 / (AAC) panels. Focus was on the effects of plan shape, plan size and layout organization and the modularity of vertical AAC wall panels on the planimetric design efficiency of residential buildings. To this end, relevant analyses were conducted on 30 residential building projects obtained from the design office of an AAC panel manufacturing firm in T&uuml / rkiye, AKG Gazbeton. The lengths, widths and areas of building elements (quantitative data) were then calculated from the production drawings of these building. A total of fifteen ratios, which were considered relevant to the study as indicators of design efficiency, were computed by using this quantitative data. This was followed by the construction of frequency distribution tables and histograms showing the variations of the computed ratios. At the final phase, Analyses of Variance (ANOVA) were conducted to determine the source of variation and Chi-Square tests conducted to determine whether or not the distributions could be considered &amp / #145 / normal&amp / #146 / . According to the results of the study, it was found that plan shape and plan size of building projects together with their layout organizations, were the main influential factors on the efficiency of their wall and floor areas. It was also found that the modularity of vertical wall panels used in these buildings was another important factor to be considered in planimetric design efficiency.

An Investigation On The Planimetric Design Efficiency Of Inpatient Departments In Healthcare Facilities

As cited in literature, the history of hospital design in both practice and theory is rife with proposals that lay claim to improving efficiency. The aim was to obtain not only lowest possible construction, maintenance and operational costs, but also highest possible patient satisfaction,comfort and privacy. Nested within this outlook, the design of hospital nursing units has claimed considerable priority. Significant in such an endeavour is timely feedback to the designer, especially as quantitative assessments of what has been achieved so far with respect to planimetric efficiency / i.e. utility value of built floor area, both in terms of its allocation to served, serving and circulation spaces and the relative proportions of these. Its particular focus was on the nursing units of public facilities in T&uuml / rkiye. The study was carried out on a random sample of hospitals operating under government jurisdictions. Sample size was roughly determined as 33%. The material consisted of production drawings. Data derived from these comprised planimetric measurements regarding their nursing units and of various germane ratios calculated. Analysis of variance, distributional aspects, scatter charts and t-tests were used to evaluate this data according to a number of relevant factors. Results for ratio of primary spaces to secondary spaces showed that there were significant differences by constructional area per bed, while other variables showed a central tendency that was independent of the factors considered. It was concluded that while the method used was appropriate to the assessment in question, further developments and investigations were needed to determine the causes underlying such differences.

Bayesian D-Optimal Design for Generalized Linear Models

Bayesian optimal designs have received increasing attention in recent years, especially in biomedical and clinical trials. Bayesian design procedures can utilize the available prior information of the unknown parameters so that a better design can be achieved. However, a difficulty in dealing with the Bayesian design is the lack of efficient computational methods. In this research, a hybrid computational method, which consists of the combination of a rough global optima search and a more precise local optima search, is proposed to efficiently search for the Bayesian D-optimal designs for multi-variable generalized linear models. Particularly, Poisson regression models and logistic regression models are investigated. Designs are examined for a range of prior distributions and the equivalence theorem is used to verify the design optimality. Design efficiency for various models are examined and compared with non-Bayesian designs. Bayesian D-optimal designs are found to be more efficient and robust than non-Bayesian D-optimal designs. Furthermore, the idea of the Bayesian sequential design is introduced and the Bayesian two-stage D-optimal design approach is developed for generalized linear models. With the incorporation of the first stage data information into the second stage, the two-stage design procedure can improve the design efficiency and produce more accurate and robust designs. The Bayesian two-stage D-optimal designs for Poisson and logistic regression models are evaluated based on simulation studies. The Bayesian two-stage optimal design approach is superior to the one-stage approach in terms of a design efficiency criterion. / Ph. D.

[...] Le sujet de cette thèse intervient dans le cadre du projet DEFI et vise à caractériser la notion d'Efficience Inventive en Conception afin d'élaborer des moyens de mesure de cette dernière. L’objectif étant à terme d’aboutir à l'adoption d’indicateurs aidant les entreprises à situer leurs capacités inventives en R&D. Par la suite, les entreprises ayant adopté ces indicateurs pourront, le cas échéant, entamer des actions d'évolution de leurs pratiques afin que la valeur de ces indicateurs évolue dans le sens recherché. Aux vues de la diversité des typologies d’entreprises et l’ampleur d’un tel sujet, notre recherche est focalisée sur les projets de conception de produits au sein des départements R&D de l’industrie automobile. Afin de mener cette recherche et définir les indicateurs de l’efficience inventive, nous avons étudié dans un premier temps les critères inhérents à la conception inventive. Selon nos travaux, la mesure de la performance inventive est corrélée à l’efficience inventive et doit considérer son efficacité par des caractéristiques ciblées, l’étude des connaissances impliquées et des ressources consommées. Notre mesure de l’efficience inventive est aussi basée sur l’analyse des flux des connaissances en jeu tout au long du processus d’innovation technologique, et particulièrement dans la phase de pré-développement. Elle analyse la relation entre ce qui est reçu et ce qui est appliqué ou consommé par rapport à l’inventivité. La mesure de l’inventivité est alors basée sur l’évaluation de l’idéalité, la nouveauté et l’utilité de ce qui sort du processus de conception de produit. L’ensemble des méthodes d’évaluation développées dans ce travail pour chaque critère d’inventivité, et l’efficience inventive, sont intégrés dans un système d’évaluation concret nommé IDPMS (Inventive Design Performance Measurement System) destiné à aider les directeurs des projets de la conception de produit et R&D à observer la performance inventive des équipes projet, et tenter d’améliorer les activités inventives. Donc, ce travail se catégorise dans le domain des sciences de l’ingénieur. Depuis plus de deux décennies, notre laboratoire (le LGéCo) travaille à la construction, d’abord théorique, puis déclinée en méthodes et outils, de nouvelles approches destinées à accompagner les mutations industrielles de l’ère de la qualité vers l’ère de l’innovation. The objective of this proposal is to define inventive performance indicators to enhance the creative capacity in the automotive industry. The research is focused on the NPD projects of R&D department, which are known as the responsible of technological evolutions. In this respect, the main elements of design performance, and the main criteria of inventiveness are studied and merged together. The inventive performance of a R&D team is concerned with the efficiency of their activities to create inventive designs when they apply existing knowledge, and/or use creative resources. This analyzes the relationship between what is received and what is applied or consumed to achieve higher inventiveness degree. The measures of inventiveness are based on the evaluation of novelty, resourcefulness, and usefulness of what comes out from design activities. All the evaluation methods developed in this work are integrated into a concrete system as IDPMS (Inventive Design Performance Measurement System), and an initial version of the IDPMS application is developed, by which R&D and project managers can observe the inventive performance of their NPD projects. So this work is categorized in Engineering Science for specifying performance indicators of inventive design activities. In recent years, our laboratory (LGeCo) focused on developing theoretical methods, then appropriate tools to accompany the industrial changes from the era of quality to the era of innovation. In this regard, this thesis provides the missing link of this effort by evaluating the main characteristics of inventions in engineering level to help companies enter into a logic performance along their innovation projects.

The effects of humanity's actions on the environment have been a viral topic for many years. The efficiency of refining raw materials is crucial in reducing these effects. This thesis was thereby tasked with improving the assembly efficiency of Rottne Industri AB:s harvester cabin. Various theories were utilized to improve the design, with Design for Excellence being the most notable. By implementing a seven-step product development process, concepts could be generated and later scored based on the customer's comments and discovered issues. The authors selected the idea with the highest score and developed it until they achieved a concept meeting the product's objectives. The concept was then validated by performing simulations and calculations related to its assembly efficiency, environmental impact, and cost. The redesign resulted in an idea possessing a design efficiency 135% higher than the original, a 72% shorter assembly time, 13% less weight, a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and a 41% reduction in assembly and material costs.
