A Study of Internet User's Acceptance on Voice Over Internet Protocol

Wang, Cheng-chin 20 June 2007 (has links)
The rapid development of the Internet and Wireless Local Area Network cause VoIP plays an important role among the emerging communication products. The purpose of this study is to explore the VoIP acceptance of the Internet user from the model of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). This study designed a questionnaire that regarded with the degree of the acceptance of VoIP according to the review of the literatures. After the research, this study indicates that there are three components that influenced the degree of acceptance of VoIP include perceived easy of use, performance expectancy and social influence and different factors under different demography significantly influence the intention of the user. Related to these three components, this study first indicates that sex has a significant influence in the expectation of the achievement and the result shows that male is more significant than female. Second, age has no significant influence. Third, different education level has significant influence in the component of perceived easy of use, especially the user who has Master and PHD degree is more significant than the user only has graduated degree. Forth, different using experience and Voluntariness of Use have different significant influence among these three components.

Multi-platform Human Computer Interaction in Converged Media Spaces

Robison, David J., Palmer, Ian J., Excell, Peter S., Earnshaw, Rae A., Al Sheik Salem, Omar F.A. January 2009 (has links)
No / The boundaries between different kinds of media spaces are complex and challenging. The convergence of computing, media, and telecommunications produces environments that contain elements of their origins, but also contain new components that allow interaction in new ways by new users with new kinds of information. This poses problems for effective human computer interaction and human media interaction because the paradigms are not well understood. Converged environments are driving these new uses just as the first PCs supported keyboards and then WIMP interfaces. Traditional models of human computer interaction are not adequate to deal with this complexity, and the shifting of the boundaries brought about by convergence.

The Future of Media: Dynamic Content Transformation and Distribution

Earnshaw, Rae A., Cunningham, S., Excell, Peter S. January 2013 (has links)
No / Media content is becoming ubiquitous and globally accessible, and can be held and accessed just as easily on a global network as on local devices which are increasingly intelligent and network ready. Digital intelligence is becoming seamless and invisible, enabling more attention to be paid to the content and the user’s interaction with it. The effects of convergence on the media landscape are substantial. Traditional media distribution channels are increasingly in the hands of the consumer rather than the distributor. News information can be generated by the general public by means of mobile devices and have a dynamic global impact via social networking sites. Political elections are being influenced in real time by information circulating on social networks in addition to the more formal statements of policy. This paper explores some of these transformative effects, the disruptive effects on traditional business models, and their implications for the future.

Transformative Interactions between Media Culture and Digital Content

Earnshaw, Rae A., Robison, David J., Palmer, Ian J., Excell, Peter S. January 2013 (has links)
No / Digital content is increasingly pervasive. Communication technologies enable the creation and dissemination of content on a transnational basis. However, the relationship between communication technology and society is complex and is impacted both by the requirements of the communicator and also cultural and social norms associated with the context of the user. How does digital technology influence media communication? How far does media communication transcend technology? The boundaries between the various forms of formal communication and social communication are blurring and the user is no longer just a consumer or someone who interacts with information; they are also a creator of new information. Companies with commercial interests in these areas are seeking to exploit new forms of communication without alienating the user.

A modelização na construção estética do sistema transmídia The Walking Dead / -

Frederico, Gisele 19 October 2018 (has links)
The development of new technologies transformed society\'s material culture by the end of the 20th century. In the midst of these changes, information has become a widely marketed product. In this context, digital convergence emerged as a new communication, artistic and distribution paradigm. Transmedia storytelling, a result of digital convergence, explores different platforms and medias, which are interrelated and form a web where user-spectator can navigate through broad narrative universes. Thus, the objective of this work is to analyze the construction of the aesthetic identity in The Walking Dead through a semiotic approach. Firstly, we compare the concept of semiosphere, developed by Iuri Lotman, with the concept of transmedia in order to demonstrate that both behave as spaces where different languages are in semiosis. Then, we analyze how the translation between symbolic language of comics - media that started the narrative universe of The Walking Dead - and television occurred. For this, we build our analysis on Julio Plaza, Haroldo de Campos, Roman Jakobson and Décio Pignatari\'s theories. Our goal is to identify semiotic texts that are modeled throughout the transmedia universe, building their aesthetic identity. The modeling elements are identified from the cinematographic syntax, based on the studies of Nöel Burch, Gilles Deleuze, Ismail Xavier, among others. The narrative universe of The Walking Dead is explored through comics, books, television series, web series, podcasts, second screen and expanded reality applications, video games, etc. Because it is a very broad media web, we have chosen to analyze, in addition to the comics and television series, The Walking Dead web series and video games, from Telltale Games and Terminal Reality. We intend to demonstrate that discussions about transmedia storytelling go far beyond commercial distribution strategies or narrative aspects. We plan to investigate the development of its aesthetic identity and to propose that it is not random, but it is defined by the modeling of semiotic texts.

Study on the Business Model for Fixed-Mobile Convergence in Taiwan's Telecommunications Industry.

Lee, Jenn-huei 31 July 2007 (has links)
As the broadband transmission and data compression are being advanced in digital technology at the same time, these enable multimedia easily to exchange and interconnect with each other. The phenomenon to present is generally called ¡§Digital Convergence¡¨. In order to cater to the customers who demand whenever and wherever possible, ubiquitously access to converging services and networks as well, the broadband wireline and wireless access technologies have made significant progress to support and to further ICT (information and communications technology) industry to invest the research and development on the relevant technology, pruducts and services. The development trend of converging in the face of industries, services and networks, FNOs(fixed network operators), who are facing the fixed to mobile substitution(FMS), attempt with the seamless communications proposition to resolve the discontinuous problems caused when or where the user¡¦s handset roams across heterogeneous networks or switches between the fixed and mobile network, so as to motivate user demand for data and multimedia services as well as to restrain the decline of revenue from circuit-switched voice service; On the other hand, MNOs(mobile network operators) are also facing the market saturation on basic voice service gradually, in order to sustain the revenue growth, dual-mode mobile handsets enable the users access to fixed wireless network that substitutes for expensive indoor radio access to mobile network, and make differentiation from competitors to stimulate user demand for value-added services so as to raise ARPU(average revenue per user). Therefore, the business model for FMC(fixed-mobile convergence), is an innovative option to surmount the dilemma of business growth of telecommunications service operators. No matter FNOs, MNOs or SBOs(service-based operators) begin integration among the horizontally layered access networks, e.g. wireless LAN, WiMAX, broadband wireless, 3G, 3.5G and 4G, and change the existing business model varied with the shifting industrial value chain as well in face of emerging convergence and advancing wireless communications technology. The study gives the result with conclusions: 1.The introduction of FMC business is the most advantageous to full-licensed operators or telecom groups; Secondly FNOs can fight against FMS threat to restrain the revenue declined and to gain the revenue stream from MVNO services. 2.Telecom operators who provide with FMC offerings can strengthen competitive advantages with differentiation in the telecom services market to increase revenue and profitability. 3.Telecom operators offer FMC products and services, which help improvement in ARPU of existing customers and acquisition of new ones. 4.FMC offering can increase stickiness on customer retention besides lowering customer churn rate. 5.No matter incumbent or potential new entrant operators who introduce FMC service offering to market, they should take advantages of resources and competence in themselves to address their customer value proposition and positioning, and to adjust the business model to rival with advantageous competitive strategy. Besides, they should consider the timing for the investment on convergence of heterogeneous network varied with industrial environment and regulation so as to raise ROCE. 6.FMC business model is a set of architectural framework, not merely products or services portfolios, applications and selling. The operators must pay close attention to the shift of the external environment and business operation conditions, change the existing business model and strategy so as to keep the business growth and sustained development for lasting enterprises. The study finally suggests: Telecom operators, potential new entrants and the Government in Taiwan should pay close attention to the spectrum licensed for the new technology WiMAX and digital convergence which may come into being ¡§horizontally layered integration¡¨ or ¡§operation beyond the regulated business scope¡¨. The demarcation of regulation the Government takes effect can give consideration to the economic efficiency of market liberalization with fair competition. Asymmetric regulation and deregulation make sure not in implementing ¡§by waiting to become¡¨, and make distribution with choice for the radio frequency spectrum which benefits industry's development as well as adopt explicitly gradual deregulation on the policy and supplementary measure so as to can give consideration to the regulatory function, build the fair market environment and sound telecommunications industry in parallel to further the development in economy.

Empirical Analysis of Market Definition under Digital Convergence¡X The Merger Case of TFN Media and Kbro

Feng, Chiu-Hui 26 August 2011 (has links)
Under digital convergence, the market structure has changed which cause the traditional market definition is no longer applicable. Many industries and firms have take action of cross-industry M&A and integration. In contrast, regulations and ¡§new¡¨ market definition has not appeared which cause antitrust authorities deal with the case of the M&A under digital convergence has no quantitative tools. Our study has found that the market structure under digital convergence almost is two-sided market and multi-sided market, so we use the modified Critical Loss Analysis which Evans and Noel (2008) proposed to be the market definition tool under digital convergence. Subsequently, we use the merger case of TFN media and Kbro to do empirical analysis. By the empirical results, we find out that the relevant market of cable TV has to expand. The IPTV and online play will be the competitive product that the market structure of cable TV will be changed radically. Under digital convergence, market definition may not precisely than traditional, but it still could provide antitrust authorities an effective quantitative evidence, and with the economic theory of qualitative analysis which could make policy analysis more integrity.
