A metodologia considera o uso de um conjunto de ferramentas capazes de propiciar a visualização imersiva de cenários virtuais. Projetos CAD, modelos e simulações são obtidos através de ferramentas de manufatura digital utilizadas na indústria e podem ser visualizados neste experimento em um dispositivo tipo CAVE. A proposta é validada em um estudo de caso associado à Indústria Naval/Offshore. Inicialmente o estudo apresenta os conceitos sobre os Sistemas de Construção Naval e Offshore no cenário mundial e os Sistemas de Manufatura Digital utilizados para esses fins. Após, o trabalho focaliza a utilização da Realidade Virtual em processos industriais identificando os objetivos e desafios da implantação de uma metodologia para visualização imersiva distribuída. Por fim, são apresentados testes e resultados obtidos com a utilização da metodologia de solução proposta, validados através de um estudo de caso realizado na Indústria Naval/Offshore. / This study proposes a methodology for immersive distributed visualization of Manufacturing Plants. A set of tools that make possible the immersive visualization of virtual sceneries for plant simulation are applied. CAD projects, models and simulations used in industry can be viewed in this experiment in device CAVE. The proposed ideas are then validated on a case study associated with Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries. Initially the study present the concepts about Shipbuilding and Offshore Systems in the world scenery and Digital Manufacturing Systems that can be used. After this discussion, this study focus on industrial application of virtual reality for then to identify the objectives and challenges of the implantation of one methodology for immersive distributed visualization. Finally Tests and Results are presented for the proposed methodology solution that will be validated through the study of a real case associated with Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries.

This thesis deals with modeling and simulation of production process, which consists of a few stationary robots. This model of production process is made in program Tecnomatix Process Simulate. Principle of digital manufacturing and virtual production is described in the first chapter. The second chapter describes how to work with program Tecnomatix Process Simulate and how to make a design of production process of continuous and spot welding. The controlling program of PLC SIMATIC 300 and the program for process visualization are described in the last chapter.

En morfologisk jämförelse av singelkronor mellan 3Shape Automate och manuell digital design : En in vitro-studie / A Morphological Comparison of Single Crowns between 3Shape Automate and Manual Digital Design : An In Vitro Study

Purpose The purpose of the present in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the aesthetic and anatomical design of single crowns created either by 3Shape Automate, an artificial intelligence program developed by 3Shape, or by dental technicians, through a blinded assessment test.  Materials and Methods A blinded evaluation test was conducted on 10 single crowns with four different design versions: 3Shape Automate, two dental technician students, and one dental technician from 3Shape. A total of 12 participants acted as evaluators and took part in the study. They were divided into four groups: one dentist group, one dental technician student group, two dental student groups. Each participant assessed each crown design using six criteria on a scale of 1-5. The data was analyzed using Mann-Whitney U-test and Kruskal-Wallis-test. Results Statistical differences could be seen between the dental technician and Automate, where the technician was graded higher, based on the following criteria: Buccal/Facial, Palatal/Lingual, Symmetry, and Cementability. Conclusion Within the limitations of the present study, following conclusions can be drawn: Posterior single crowns designed by 3Shape Automate are considered to have comparable aesthetics and anatomy to those created by a dental technician, while anterior single crowns are not deemed to have the same aesthetic and anatomical quality. There is a noticeable difference between 3Shape Automate and the 3Shape dental technician, the technician receiving higher scores in a blind evaluation test for the criteria Buccal/Facial, Palatal/Lingual, Symmetry, and Cementability. / Syfte Syftet med föreliggande in vitro-studie var att genom ett blindat utvärderings-test utvärdera och jämföra den estetiska och anatomiska designen av singelkronor skapade av antingen 3Shape Automate, ett artificiellt intelligensprogram utvecklat av 3Shape, eller av tandtekniker. Material och metod Ett blindat utvärderings-test utfördes på 10 designade kronor som hade fyra olika designversioner: 3Shape Automate, två tandteknikerstudenter och en tandtekniker från 3Shape. Totalt 12 deltagare agerade som utvärderare och deltog i studien och de var indelade i fyra grupper; tre tandläkare där samtliga hade cirka 20 års erfarenhet, tre tandteknikerstudenter på termin 6, tre tandläkarstudenter på termin 8 och tre tandläkarstudenter på termin 10. Varje deltagare fick granska och utvärdera varje design av singelkronorna enligt ett formulär genom 3D-vy och gradera sex olika kriterier på en skala 1–5. Data analyserades genom Mann-Whitney U-test och Kruskal-Wallis-test. Resultat Statistiska skillnader kunde ses mellan tandteknikern från 3Shape och Automate, där 3Shape’s tandtekniker värderades högst utifrån följande kriterier från formuläret: Buccalt/Facialt, Palatinalt/Lingualt, Symmetri och Cementerbarhet.  Slutsats Inom ramen för föreliggande studies begränsningar, kan följande slutsatser dras: Posteriora singelkronor designade av AI-tjänsten 3Shape Automate bedöms ha likvärdig estetik och anatomi som de som skapats av en tandtekniker, medan anteriora singelkronor inte anses ha samma estetiska och anatomiska kvalitet. Det finns en märkbar skillnad mellan 3Shape Automate och tandteknikern från 3Shape, där tandteknikern fick högre värden vid ett blindat utvärderings-test för kriterierna Buccalt/Facialt, Palatinalt/Lingualt, Symmetri och Cementerbarhet.

A presente pesquisa pretende examinar a imagem digital decorrente da aproximação das artes visuais com as tecnologias CAD/CAM e os sistemas biológicos de criação. Essa imagem de base computacional e de característica emergente encontra na fabricação digital a oportunidade de se materializar tendo em vista a compatibilidade tanto no sentido da concretização da complexidade da forma quanto da possibilidade de sua singularização seriada. Mais especificamente, pretende-se abordar como os processos e as técnicas de produção digital, ao viabilizarem a geração e materialização da imagem complexa, têm interferido no modus operandi do artista visual, ampliando as formas de operar e representar no campo das Artes ao servirem como instrumento para o desenvolvimento e a representação de novas poéticas. Por meio da referência teórica, da leitura de obras e dos trabalhos práticos experimentais, pretende-se explorar de que forma o artista se apropria dos meios de produção digitais e dos processos generativos de criação, explorando-os como uma linguagem inovadora, que por sua vez amplia e potencializa, a níveis antes insuspeitáveis, as formas de expressão e execução de sua obra. Intenta-se avaliar de que maneira o processo de caráter numérico pode interferir no processo criativo e poético do artista visual de modo a promover novas possibilidades expressivas e, dessa forma, explorar potenciais até então pouco usuais no campo das artes. A tese usa como principais fundamentações teóricas para lançar as bases para o entendimento da relação cada vez mais estreita entre arte e tecnologia as discussões de Taylor (2014), Machado (1997b), Couchot (2003), Lévy (1996), Laurentiz (1991), Moles (1990) e Plaza & Tavares (1998), que investigam a introdução do numérico no campo artístico. Já as discussões de Manovich (2010), Galanter (2010), Couchot (2010), Johnson (2001), Whitelaw (2006) e McCormack (2014) abordam teorias a respeito da complexidade da imagem e esclarecem processos e modelos de sistemas naturais passíveis de emergência. Such computer-based image, that is emergent, can be materialized in the digital fabrication owing to the compatibility both in the sense of making the complexity of the form concrete and of enabling its serial singling. More specifically, we intend to approach how the digital manufacturing processes and techniques have interfered with the visual artist´s modus operandi as they enable the generation and the materialization of the complex image, thus enlarging the ways to operate and represent in the arts field because they work as instruments to develop and represent new poetics. By means of theoretical reference, work reading and experimental practical works, we intend to explore how the artist takes over the means of digital production and the generative processes of creating and he/she explores them as an innovative language, which, in turn, amplifies and potentiates the forms of expression and accomplishment of his/her work to levels unimaginable before. We intend to evaluate how the numerical character process can interfere with the visual artist´s creative and poetic process to promote new expressive possibilities, thus exploring the potential which has been unusual in the arts field so far. The main theoretical support to launch the bases to understand the ever closer relation of art to technology was derived from the discussions by Taylor (2014), Machado (1997b), Couchot (2003), Lévy (1996), Laurentiz (1991), Moles (1990) and Plaza & Tavares (1998). A Study of Digital RF Phase Shifters Fabricated With Additive Manufacturing

Digital RF phase shifters fabricated using additive manufacturing processes are presented and studied. The purpose is to explain the performance differences between phase shifters fabricated using additive manufacturing and those fabricated with conventional subtractive techniques. All phase shifters are designed to operate at a center frequency of 2.45 GHz with a 100 MHz bandwidth. The 1-bit 45° switched line phase shifters have an average insertion loss of 1.3 dB and a 220 mm2 footprint, while the 1-bit 180° high-pass low-pass phase shifters have an insertion loss 1.56 dB and a 180 mm2 footprint. The 4-bit high-pass low-pass, switched line hybrid phase shifters on the other hand show an average state insertion loss of 5.4 dB and have a 660 mm2 foot print. By carefully analyzing the performance of the various phase shifter designs it is shown that the limiting factors of additive manufacturing technology are the low conductivity of CB028 silver ink in comparison to copper, and the inability to print dielectrics with low surface roughness. Finally, parallel plate capacitors and a spiral inductor designed to be fabricated using additive manufacturing techniques are studied. This is done in order to better understand the advantages and disadvantages of such a design. By analyzing the component’s simulated performance it is shown that 3D printed capacitors and inductors are feasible as long as the capacitance or inductance values needed are low. Large value 3D printed components are impractical for RF applications due to their large size.

Nel contesto della nuova rivoluzione industriale, alti livelli di turbolenza, dinamismo, volatilità, globalizzazione, competizione e un diverso ruolo del consumatore riconfigurano il panorama delle supply chain e delle innovazioni. Nonostante il valore co-creato e le ultime innovazioni in ottica customer driven siano ormai elementi imprescindibili, poche ricerche si sono focalizzate sulle caratteristiche di una supply chain guidata dal consumatore e sull’impatto o implementazione della stampa 3D. Pertanto, questa tesi mira ad esplorare gli aspetti principali della customer driven supply chain e della direct digital manufacturing technology. Il Paper I presenta una revisione sistematica della letteratura e fornisce un quadro concettuale utile per organizzare i contributi più recenti sull'argomento, implementando la teoria e suggerendo linee guida per i manager. Il Paper II e Paper III propongono ricerche qualitative mediante singoli casi studio che rispettivamente analizzano come la stampa 3D è in grado di facilitare la supply chain customer centricity attraverso la co-creazione di valore nel settore aerospaziale e come un technology provider può implementare un’innovazione customer centric nel settore della gioielleria italiana. Gli studi suggeriscono modelli concettuali e proposizioni che incrementano la letteratura esistente e guidano i manager. Questa tesi contribuisce all'esplorazione dei recenti progressi in merito all’'orientamento della supply chain e della direct digital manufacturing technology fornendo analisi critiche approfondite relative a diverse metodologie. / In the new industrial revolution, high levels of turbulence, dynamism, volatility, globalization, competition and modified customer’s role reconfigure supply chains and innovations landscape. Even if value co-creation and last technologies towards customer driven orientation are unavoidable elements, few contributions have focused on customer driven supply chain characteristics and on 3D printing impact on supply chain or elements of its implementation. For this reason, the thesis aims to explore the main features of customer driven supply chains and direct digital manufacturing technology. Paper I presents a systematic literature review that shows a conceptual framework able to organize the most recent contributions on the topic, implementing the knowledge on the theme and suggesting guidelines to managers. Paper II and Paper III provide qualitative constructive single case study research respectively focused on how 3D printing can enable supply chain customer centricity by value co-creation in the aerospace sector and how 3D printing can be implemented by a technology provider in the Italian jewellery sector. The studies suggest conceptual framework and propositions for improving existing knowledge and addressing managers. This thesis contributes to the exploration of recent advancements in supply chain orientation and direct digital manufacturing technology by providing deep critical analysis related to diverse methodologies.

Through a combination of theoretical research and practical experiments a building system has been developed which has the capabilities to create houses with great geometric flexibilities to a affordable price today. The construction system Perimeter is demonstrated in a pavilion situated at Norra Djurgården in Stockholm. / Projektet undersöker möjligheterna att använda additiv tillverkning (3d-printning) för att bygga arkitekturen. Genom en kombination av teoretisk forskning och praktiska experiment har ett byggsystem utvecklats som har kapacitet att skapa hus med stora geometriska flexibilitet till ett överkomligt pris i dag. Konstruktionssystemet Perimeter demonstreras i en paviljong belägen på Norra Djurgården i Stockholm.

[pt] A manufatura avançada, mais especificamente a manufatura aditiva, tem sido explorada cada vez mais, desde o surgimento da chamada Indústria 4.0. As técnicas de impressão 3D, incluindo a grande diversidade de tecnologias e de materiais que podem ser utilizados, permitem uma grande gama de aplicações. Com o intuito de explorar mais e aprofundar os estudos ligados a este tema, esta pesquisa investigou as propriedades mecânicas do aço inoxidável PH1, fabricado numa impressora EOS M280 através do processo de sinterização de camadas por laser. Buscou-se explorar as características do material, identificando influências da forma de fabricação e comparando as suas propriedades medidas, com as que são informadas pelo fabricante da impressora e com materiais laminados similares encontrados no mercado. Os ensaios de tração, rugosidade, dureza, impacto, M.E.V. e fadiga foram selecionados considerando a obtenção das propriedades mais relevantes do material para a indústria das peças produzidas pela tecnologia. Os resultados medidos foram comparados com os obtidos pela manufatura tradicional, para que fosse possível analisar a viabilidade e confiabilidade de substituição do método de fabricação. Adicionalmente, foi desenvolvido um roteiro de fabricação digital de peças de reposição, para permitir a fabricação de peças que, juntamente com os ensaios mecânicos realizados, permite a avaliação do caminho a ser seguido dentro da manufatura aditiva para cada peça. / [en] Advanced manufacturing, more specifically additive manufacturing, has been increasingly explored since the emergence of the so-called Industry 4.0. 3D printing techniques, including the great diversity of technologies and materials that can be used, allow a wide range of applications. In order to further explore and deepen the studies related to this topic, this research investigated the mechanical properties of PH1 stainless steel, manufactured in an EOS M280 printer through the laser layer sintering process. The characteristics of the material were explored, identifying influences of the form of manufacture and comparing its measured properties with those reported by the printer manufacturer and with similar laminated materials found on the market. The tensile, roughness, hardness, impact, M.E.V. and fatigue tests were selected considering obtaining the most relevant properties of the material for the industry of the parts produced by the technology. The measured results were compared with those obtained by traditional manufacturing, so that it was possible to analyze the feasibility and reliability of replacing the manufacturing method. These indicate that the printed material is resistant and can replace parts obtained by traditional manufacturing, but it must be used with some considerations as it is greatly influenced by the printing orientation. Additionally, a script for the digital manufacturing of spare parts was developed, to allow the manufacture of parts that, together with the mechanical tests performed, allows the evaluation of the path to be followed within the additive manufacturing for each part.
