<p> Paul, the author of Gal 3:23-4:7 and Rom 8:14-25, demonstrates in these two passages a new thing for all believers in Christ-a clear movement from slavery to adoption as sons to the status of heirs. This movement occurs through the process of adoption into God's family and is characterized by inclusiveness regardless of race, socioeconomic status, or gender. This study will explore the promise that the marginalized can participate in a full, new creation inheritance. According to the promise of Rom 4:13, the dispossessed will "inherit the world." This concept of the new creation so clearly seen in Rom 8-expressed also as inheriting the world in Rom 4:13-is critical for correctly interpreting Gal 3:28, framed as it is in a discussion of inheritance and adoption. Ursula K. Le Guin : the utopias and dystopias of The dispossessed and Always coming comeClark, Edith Ilse Victoria January 1987 (has links)
The thesis deals with the Utopian and dystopian aspects of Ursula K. Le Guin's The Dispossessed and Always Coming Home. To provide a basis for comparison with the endeavours of previous utopists, the first part is devoted to a historical account of literary Utopias, and to an examination of the signposts of the genre. This history is restricted to practical blueprints for the ideal commonwealth and excludes creations of pure fantasy.
In tracing Utopian development from Plato to Wells, the influence of historical events and the mainstreams of thought, such as Renaissance humanism, the Reformation, the rising importance of science, the discovery of new lands, the Enlightenment, Locke's Theory of Perfectability, Bentham's utilitarianism, the Industrial Revolution, socialism, the French Revolution, Darwinism, and the conflict between capital and labour is demonstrated. It is also shown how the long-range results of the Russian Revolution and the two world wars shattered all Utopian visions, leading to the emergence of the dystopia, and how the author reversed this negative trend in the second part of the twentieth century.
In a study of forms of Utopian presentation, the claim is made that The Dispossessed features the first Utopia that qualifies as a novel: not only does the author break with the genre's tradition of subordinating the characters to the proposal, she also creates the conflict necessary for novelistic structure by juxtaposing her positive societies with negative ones.
In part two, the Utopias and dystopias of both books are examined, and their features compared to previous endeavours in the genre. The observation is made that although the author favours anarchism as a political theory, she is more deeply committed to the Chinese philosophy of Taoism, seeing in its ideals the only way to a harmonious and just existence for all. In order to prove her point, Le Guin renders her Utopias less than perfect, placing one society into an inhospitable environment and showing the other as suffering from genetic damage; this suggests that the ideal life does not rest in societal organization or beneficent surroundings, but in the minds of the inhabitants: this frame of mind—if not inherent in a culture—can be achieved by living in accordance with the tao.
Lastly, an effort is made to determine the anthropological models upon which Utopian proposals are constructed. The theory is put forth that all non-governed, egalitarian Utopias represent a return to the societal arrangements of early man, when his communities were still small and decentralized, and before occupational specialization began to set in; that all democratic forms of government are taken from the Greek examples, that More's Utopia might well have been modelled on the Athenian clans of the pre-Cleisthenes era, and that the Kesh society of Always Coming Home is based exclusively on the kinship systems of the Pueblo Indians of the American Southwest. / Arts, Faculty of / English, Department of / Graduate

Land reform in the Limpopo Province : a case study of the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality / Harry Mantaneng PhaahlaPhaahla, Harry Mantaneng January 2011 (has links)
My interest in this research was to interview leaders and members of the three
communities within the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality as well as officials of the
Regional Land Claims Commission (RLCC).
The purpose of the discussions was to find out how the communities involved
Government when lodging land claims. The three communities are, Bakwena Ba-
Kopa, Bakgaga Ba-Kopa and Masakaneng. The research yielded the following
findings: 1. All the three communities followed the correct procedures regarding the
relevant legislation and policies when they lodged their land claims. 2. Government played its role through the RLCC by assisting the communities in their endeavor to have their land restored. 3. In the interaction between Government and the communities challenges were encountered that at times led to the delay of the settlements. 4. When the communities keep patient during the land claim processes and
Government officials are dedicated to assist the communities, the chance of
positive outcomes is maximised.
There is evidence that Government made progress to ensure that the affected
communities have the dispossessed land restored. However, there is still a lot to be
done in addressing the outstanding issues. To handle these matters, as indicated
below, co-ordination and interaction between Government and the communities is
crucial.
One can point out these obstacles by focusing on the three affected communities
respectively. Masakaneng:
There is a need to tackle the challenge of the concerned group that led to the
emergence of another committee in the process. This delays the formal negotiations
with the municipality to help facilitate the delivery of the necessary services.
Bakwena Ba-Kopa:
The role-players missed the time-frames that were targeted for settlement.
Government will have to speed up the matter and finalise the settlement, seeing that
the beneficiaries have been waiting for many years.
Bakgaga Ba-Kopa:
Only portion one of RietKloof was restored to the community. The community is
eagerly awaiting Government to help facilitate the restoration of the remaining
portion. This community also needs to play its part in ensuring that the other sections
of the land are restored. It is important that they go back to the drawing board as
beneficiaries and tackle the prevailing differences so that they end up with a
unanimous stand on this matter.
To conclude: It is quite evident that the democratic government post-1994 is
committed and prepared to restore the dignity of the black people who were forcibly
removed from land they and their ancestors occupied. Government is assisting in
this matter by providing all the necessary resources to ensure that land restoration is
a success. For Government to succeed, the affected communities must also play
their role within the parameters of the relevant legislation. This is what the land Acts
