An Intelligent Agent Solution for Improving the Efficiency of the Kidney Distribution Process

Zhao, Jiangxu 05 1900 (has links)
Kidney transplantation is an effective treatment for renal disease that was previously fatal. However, the demand for donor kidneys far exceeds the supply. Due to the scarcity of volunteer donors, the cadaver organs that are retrieved must be optimally utilized. By expanding organ retrieval and sharing pools and improving donor-patient matching algorithms, the utilization of donated organs is enhanced and encouraging medical results are obtained. However, the benefits of enlarged donor and recipient pools may be offset by increasing complexity and decreasing efficiency in the organ distribution process thus increasing cold ischemia time. It is critical to improve distribution process efficiency in order to minimize the time taken to complete the entire process, and thus further enhance patient and graft survival. I attempt to apply supply chain management concepts, agent technologies, mobile communication technologies and decision-making theory to improve the efficiency of the cadaver kidney distribution process. In this thesis I analyze what are the bottlenecks in current cadaver kidney distribution and investigate how agent technology can be applied to improve this process. I propose a distributed multi-agent system operating in a mobile and wireless communication environment to assist transplant coordinators in coordinating with multi-parties in this time-critical distribution process. A prototype system has been developed to help transplanting coordinators in allocating the kidney recipient. / Thesis / Master of Science (MS)

Galué Sandreaa, Melisa Andreina, Meleán Romero, Rosana Alejandra 03 August 2018 (has links)
The lack of production and distribution of food in Venezuela brings with it scarcity and shortages in basic food products. Regulations on prices control over products to buy and excessive queues have affected the access and availability of these by the population. Faced with this reality, the Venezuelan government has defined policies, strategies and programs to guarantee access to food products, for which it has developed since 2000, food programs to solve the situation described above. Consequently the purpose of this research work is to characterize the process of food distribution of the Venezuelan State during the period 2000-2017. The methodology used is descriptive-analytical, under a documentary and qualitative approach. Specialized documents are reviewed, identifying relevant theoretical elements associated with the distribution process. The large investments made in this sector have not resulted in lasting benefits, social welfare and a greater and better quality of life of the population. The architecture of the distribution process, defined at the beginning (at the birth of the Mercal Network) elements, actors and clearly defined strategies, these were restructured over the years. Today, a house-to- house distribution system is assumed, with new actors and new strategies, but without the guarantee of a national supply of food products with a frequency that will continuously support the development of the food distribution process assumed by the national government.

Event-based risk management of large scale information technology projects

Alem, Mohammad January 2013 (has links)
Globalisation has come as a double-edged blade for information technology (IT) companies; providing growth opportunities and yet posing many challenges. Software development is moving from a monolithic model to a distributed approach, where many entities and organisations are involved in the development process. Risk management an important area to deal with all the kinds of technical and social issues within companies planning and programming schedules, and this new way of working requires more attention to be paid to the temporal, socio-cultural and control aspects than before. Multinational companies like IBM have begun to consider how to address the distributed nature of its projects across the globe. With outlets across the globe, the company finds various people of different cultures, languages and ethics working on a single and bigger IT projects from different locations. Other IT companies are facing the same problems, despite there being many kinds of approaches available to handle risk management in large scale IT companies. IBM commissioned the Distributed Risk Management Process (DRiMaP) model as a suitable solution. This model focused on the collaborative and on-going control aspects, and paid attention to the need for risk managers, project managers and management to include risk management into all phases of projects and the business cycle. The authors of the DRiMaP model did not subject it to extensive testing. This research sets out to evaluate, improve and extend the model process and thereby develop a new and dynamic approach to distributed information systems development. To do this, this research compares and contrasts the model with other risk management approaches. An Evolutionary Model is developed, and this is subjected to empirical testing through a hybrid constructive research approach. A survey is used to draw out the observations of project participants, a structured interview gathered the opinions of project experts, a software tool was developed to implement the model, and SysML and Monte Carlo methods were applied to this to simulate the functioning of the model. The Evolutionary Model was found to partially address the shortcomings of the DRiMaP model, and to provide a valuable platform for the development of an enterprise risk management solution.

Kostnadsbesparingar i en alternativ distributionsstruktur - Bra! Men hur? : En fallstudie på Svenssons i Lammhult / An alternative distribution structure to create savings – bad, or amazing? : A case study at Svenssons i Lammhult

Nilsson, Petter, Albrektson, Olle January 2017 (has links)
Background: Companies can use a variety of distribution processes in order to deliver their products to their customers and all of these distribution processes results in different costs. The distribution costs are transport, handling, storage and information costs and these costs constitute a large share of the total product cost for many companies. Depending on how a company designs their distribution structure the resulting cost varies. There are also several factors that influence the design of a distribution structure, such as various customer requirements. When gathering these factors and costs in a framework it is possible to use the framework when making business decisions. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to develop a theoretical framework designed to choose a distribution structure. Furthermore, the framework will be applied on the case company in order to demonstrate how the framework can be applied on the case company and adapted to an industry. Lastly, possible savings for the case company will be demonstrated and an action plan for reaching these savings will be presented. Methodology: The study is a case study at the furniture retailer Svenssons i Lammhult. A current state map has been created through interviews and observations at the case company. Thereafter a theoretical framework for choosing a distribution structure has been developed, and by using the current state map, cost calculations for alternative distribution processes has been carried out on 30 selected products. Based on the cost calculations a new distribution structure and an action plan has been presented. Conclusions: The largest savings, about 2.000.000 SEK, can be achieved by a transition to direct delivery for home delivered products that are being ordered with products from a single supplier. Further cost savings can be achieved by distributing smaller products through pickup points instead of home delivery. To implement these changes the case company needs to negotiate with their suppliers and investigate costs for implementing integrated information systems with their suppliers.K
