The dissertation is about empowerment initiative of soldiers and non- commissioned officers of Minas Gerais Military Police in 1997. The interviews were the main source of this research. Making use of Oral History, it was sought, by thinking of narrated memories, understand what kind of representations were constructed by those who experienced the events. The narrative revealed the existence of a “memory divided”. This concept was used by Alessandro Portelli to explain the possibility of multiply and fragmented memories of an event. Soldiers and non commissioned officers mainly emphasized the idea that held a claiming movement, for the governor of the State, it was a rebellion; for officers, a mutiny and the press has not reached a consensus. Thus, soldiers and non commissioned officer, officers, government and the press, each of them realized, and felt justified facts in different ways.
