Estudo dos valores cefalometricos da analise craniofacial da Fundação Tweed em classe II, 1ª divisão de Angle

O estudo constava de 212 radiografias cefalométricas de indivíduos, na faixa etária de 12 a 15 anos, as quais foram divididas em dois grupos: o Grupo Classe II, com 169 telerradiografias da cabeça em norma lateral, de indivíduos leucodermas com maloclusão de Classe II, 1a. divisão de Angle, de ambos os sexos (82 do sexo masculino e 87 do feminino); e o Grupo Controle, com 43 telerradiografias em norma lateral, de indivíduos com oclusão clinicamente excelente, também de ambos os sexos (21 do sexo masculino e 22 do feminino). As telerradiografias foram selecionadas no arquivo da Disciplina de Ortodontia, da Faculdade de Odontologia de Piracicaba, UNICAMP, previamente ao tratamento ortodôntico. Os resultados demonstraram não existir dimorfismo sexual dentro de cada grupo, o qual foi comprovado pelo Teste "t" de student. A análise exploratória ('+ ou ¿ ' 0,5 desvio padrão) tornou possível a determinação dos limites de tolerância e a elaboração da Tabela da Análise Craniofacial com os respectivos intervalos cefalométricos. Além de observar que não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa na posição de maxila entre os grupos estudados, ou seja, a maxila apresentou-se bem posicionada em relação à base do crânio. Por outro lado, a mandíbula apresentou-se retruída em relação à base do crânio nos casos de Classe II.O padrão esquelético não ficou definido pois somente o IAF apresentou um padrão vertical na Classe II, enquanto os valores de Eixo Y, SN.PIO, SN.GoMe e FMA não apresentaram diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os grupos estudados. A Classe II, 1.a divisão, apresentou os incisivos inferiores mais inclinados para vestibular e o perfil facial convexo / Abstract: The research defined the cephalometric values of the Craniofacial Analysis of the Tweed Foundation where in Brazilian sample entered the study. This study consisted of 212 cephalometric radiographs from subjects, in the 12-15 age group, which were divided in two groups: the Group Class II,with 169 head lateral norm teleradiographs from Caucasian subjects, with Angle Class II , division 1 malocclusion, of both sexes (82 males and 87 females); and the Control Group, with 43 lateral norm teleradiographs from subjects whose occlusjon was clinically considered excellent., and also of both sexes (21 males and 22 females). The teleradiographs were selected from the file of the Orthodontic Area, of the Faculty of Dentistry of Piracicaba - UNICAMP, previously to the orthodontic treatment. The results demonstrated not to exist sexual dimorphism inside each group, which was proved by the Student's "t" test. The exploratory analysis ('+ or -' 0,5 standard deviation) made it possible to determine the tolerance limits and to elaborate on the Craniofacial Analysis Table with the respective cephalometric intervals. In addition to this, it was observed that the diffe,rence between the two studied groups, was not statiscally significant according to the maxilla position, in other words, the maxilla reported itself in a good position in relation to the cranial base. On the other hand, the mandible reported itself in a retruded position in relation to the cranial base in the Class II cases. The skeletal pattern was not defined because only the IAF reported a vertical pattern in Class II, while the Y Axis, SN.PIO, SN.GoMe and FMA values did not report any difference statistically significant between the studied groups. Equal Play, Equal Pay: Title IX Effects on Salary Gap at Division I Football Bowl Series and Football Championship Series Universities

This thesis examines the impacts of Title IX compliance on salary gap of Division I Football Bowl Series and Football Championship Series universities male and female associate professors. Title IX athletic proportionality requirements have been established since the 1980’s and require that each university have an equal percentage of female student athletes as they do female undergraduates. This study uses the National Center for Education Statistics database, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System to calculate salary gap between male and female associate professors and uses the Office of Civil Rights Equity in Athletics Database to calculate Title IX compliance. In this study paired t-tests and OLS regression are used to find the relationship between the salary gap and compliance of Title IX. This study found an inverse relationship between salary gap and Title IX compliance, refuting the hypothesis. Because Title IX compliance requires an equal proportion of student to athletes, the universities with significantly more female undergraduates were less likely to be Title IX compliant.

Community College Student-Athletes' Perspectives on the Transfer Process to a Four-Year Institution

There is a population of student-athletes who are in need of deeper understanding and additional support. Community college transfer student-athletes face different challenges than their non-athlete and non-transfer peers. Given these differences, this qualitative study was focused on understanding the experiences and perceptions of community college transfer student-athletes. More specifically, this study aimed to describe the preparation to transfer, the transfer process, and the recommendations for successful transfer as each relates to academics, athletics, and personal factors. For this qualitative study, data were collected through individual interviews, a focus group, as well as observation and reflection. Fourteen themes emerged through coding and analysis. These themes answered the three research questions as well as increased the literature on an under-researched population. Key implications for future research surrounding community college transfer student-athletes emerged including a focus on a need for academic clarity, earlier recruitment, strong relationships, and excellent time management skills.

Pro or Bust: Career Aspirations of Division I and Community College Basketball Players

ABSTRACT Pro or Bust: Career Aspirations of Division I and Community College Basketball Players Alexander Shahriar Engel The purpose of this study was to determine the difference, if any, between Division I and community college basketball players career aspirations. Interviews were held with eleven athletes from the Cal Poly Men’s Basketball team, and ten athletes from the Cuesta College Men’s Basketball team. The interviews were used to determine the impact of different variables on the athletes career aspirations, and to explore themes in the data. To look for themes, both axial and open coding was used. Division I athletes were more likely to aspire to be professional basketball players than the athletes at the community college level. However, community college athletes aspired toward higher education levels overall. Many of the variables such as low parental involvement and low socioeconomic status that typically have a negative impact on career aspirations did not seem to affect these athletes long term academic and professional aspirations. Being involved in athletics may shield or reduce the negative effects of the variables on the athletes; however, further study is needed. NCAA Division I Athletes Preferences for Coaching Behaviors

The purpose of this study was to determine whether coaching behavior preferences of NCAA Division I athletes differ as a function of gender and type of sport. The Coaching Behavior Questionnare (CBQ; Martin & Barnes, 1999) was administered to 195 NCAA Division I athletes. Gender and sport type were the independent variables and the participant's mean scores for the subscales on the CBQ were the dependent variables. Descriptive statistics revealed that, overall, NCAA Division I athletes prefer positive and instructional behaviors more than non-responses or negative behaviors. A 2 (gender) x 3 (type of sport) MANOVA and follow-up discriminant function analysis indicated that coaching behavior preferences differed as a function of gender and type of sport played. Thus, NCAA Division I coaches should consider both individual and situational characteristics when working with their athletes to achieve the desired outcome.

Does A Student-Athletes' Socioeconomic Background Matter?

This research focuses on college football players from low socioeconomic backgrounds (i.e., attended a Title I High School) and examines whether they are more likely to experience athletic success and influence the performance of the college football programs they attend relative to other student-athletes. The results show that, over the period 2010-2016, Title I players are more likely to be drafted or play in the NFL than other student-athletes. In addition, teams with more Title I players on their roster appear to reap some benefits. On one hand, Title I heavy rosters are associated with better conference records and are more successful in terms of having their players drafted. On the other hand, Title I heavy rosters are not associated with the program's financial performance or ability to produce NFL players. Overall, the evidence supports the notion that socioeconomic background is important for athletic success, especially at the individual level. However, this effect is reversed in the case of student-athletes playing as quarterbacks, which raises interesting questions for future research.
