Thus the dissertation investigates the state of the art of the academic works on the subject and discloses what the doctorate theses say on the topic in question. In such a way we define as research problem the investigation: How it is characterized the state of the art of doctorate dissertation from 1998 to 2008 approaching the art-education for people with special educational needs resulting in an interface in between the areas of Art-Education, inclusive Education and/or Special Education? The execution of the dissertation had the Qualitative study as methodology . The data collection was done through the procedure of documentary analysis. This procedure has as purpose, the identification and the analysis of the doctorate dissertation considered in this case as documents. The instruments used to access the doctorate dissertation had been the Databases of CAPES and virtual library as Public Domain, SibiNet - Net of Sibi/USP Service, the IBICT - Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology, the database of the Virtual Library of the USP and the INEP- National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anísio Teixeira. By the mapping of the doctorate dissertation, was confirmed that the seven productions had been elaborated in different areas of knowledge, therefore although all tackle the art-education in an interface with the inclusive education and/or special education, they use different theoretical references. Another distinction is that they approach the art with differentiated focus, that is, some theses values the art as language and as an area of knowledge with its particular contents displaying its specificities. Meanwhile others value the art as a facilitator field for the social inclusion, the art as resource to achieve other ends. It s been revealed by the research, some categories that had emerged with the reading of the doctorate dissertation and thus expressive results have been evidenced. Among them the lack of doctorate dissertation approaching the subject, the focus of the researches that approach only those with deficiencies, the necessity of specific resources that try to to take care of the specificities of students with special educational needs in the regular range of education, the disagreement between the terms used to refer to people with educational special needs, the disqualification of teachers who work with the public that presents deficiency, as well as the use of the art by the authors of the docorate dissertation. To elaborate a bibliographical research that unifies what has been researched in the area can be a first step to understand the ways that both the inclusive education and the art-education has taken together / A pesquisa tem como foco realizar um mapeamento das teses de doutorado, que articulam os temas da arte-educação e da inclusão de pessoas com necessidades educacionais especiais no âmbito da educação especial e/ou educação inclusiva. Assim a dissertação investiga o estado da arte dos trabalhos acadêmicos sobre a temática e revela o que as teses de doutorado dizem sobre o tema em questão. Desta forma definimos como problema de pesquisa a indagação: Como se caracteriza o estado da arte das teses de doutorado entre os anos de 1998 e 2008 que abordam a arte-educação para pessoas com necessidades educacionais especiais resultando em uma interface entre as áreas de Arte-Educação, Educação Inclusiva e/ou Educação Especial? A realização da dissertação teve como metodologia o estudo Qualitativo. A coleta de dados foi realizada pelo procedimento de análise documental. Esse procedimento tem como finalidade, a identificação e a análise das teses de doutorado consideradas nesse caso como documentos. Os instrumentos utilizados para o acesso às teses de doutorado foram os Bancos de Dados da CAPES e de bibliotecas virtuais como Domínio Público, SibiNet Rede de Serviço Sibi/USP, o IBICT - Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia, o banco de dados da Biblioteca Virtual da USP e o INEP Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira. Com o mapeamento das teses de doutorado foi constatado que as sete produções foram realizadas em diferentes áreas do conhecimento, portanto apesar do todas tratarem a arte-educação em uma interface com a educação inclusiva e/ou educação especial, utilizam referenciais teóricos distintos. Outra distinção, é que abordam a arte com focos diferenciados, isto é, algumas teses valorizam a arte como linguagem e como uma área do conhecimento com conteúdos próprios expondo suas especificidades, já outras valorizam a arte como um campo facilitador da inclusão social, a arte como recurso para chegar-se a outros fins. Foram averiguadas, com a pesquisa, algumas categorias que emergiram com a leitura das teses e assim resultados expressivos puderam ser constatados. Entre eles a escassez de teses de doutorado que abordam a temática, o foco das pesquisas que abrangem em sua maioria apenas as pessoas com deficiências, a necessidade de recursos específicos que visam atender às especificidades dos estudantes com necessidades educacionais especiais na rede regular de ensino, o desacordo entre os termos utilizados para fazer referência às pessoas com necessidades educacionais especiais, a desqualificação de professores que trabalham com o público que apresenta deficiência, assim como a utilização da arte pelos autores das teses. Elaborar uma pesquisa bibliográfica que reúna o que se tem pesquisado na área pode ser um primeiro passo para que se possam perceber os caminhos que a educação inclusiva juntamente com a arte-educação têm tomado
