Recent years have produced an influx of popular documentaries of Indian gurus who founded transnational spiritual communities and became embroiled in various forms of controversy. One example of this is Wild Wild Country, a 2018 Netflix documentary that depicts the rise and fall of a spiritual community, started by an Indian guru named Osho (1931-1990) in a failed attempt to build a utopian commune in Oregon. American representations of Asian religious figures have historically been a complex, and often prejudiced, affair. This thesis will attempt to assert the best fit theoretical framework with which to interpret Wild Wild Country, between Edward Said's Orientalism and J. J. Clarke's Affirmative Orientalism. Alongside these frameworks, the thesis will incorporate the theoretical framework of Virtual Orientalism by Jane Iwamura, and scholarly analyses of Osho from Marion Goldman and Hugh Urban. My thesis will explore the documentary's representations of Hinduism, race, sexuality, capitalism, and culture. The original contribution of the project will be an analysis of Osho in the primary source material Wild Wild Country. Utilizing the postcolonial scholarship produced by scholars such as Edward Said, Richard King, and Jane Iwamura, as well as the alternative framework of Affirmative Orientalism used by J.J. Clarke, the project will attempt to dissect the American media representation of the "mystic East" broadly, and of the Hindu religious leader Osho, specifically.

Para que ocorra uma resposta a essa necessidade de informação, explorou-se o estudo da análise documental de conteúdo para identificação de temas, enfocando a estratégia da exploração da estrutura textual com base no percurso gerativo de sentido em literatura infanto-juvenil, a fim de que seu conteúdo possa tornar-se acessível. O problema de pesquisa buscou soluções para uma análise documental de conteúdo adequada diante de termos implícitos e necessários para a identificação de temas. Utilizando para isto a metodologia de estudo exploratório, que considerou a interdisciplinaridade entre a Ciência da Informação, a Lingüística Textual, a Semiótica Narrativa e Discursiva, e a Semântica Discursiva, pois juntas esclarecem os métodos de identificação do conteúdo do documento, bem como elucidam a disposição e o tema dos textos de ficção. A hipótese levantada de que o percurso gerativo de sentido evidencia a estrutura textual, alertando para as partes importantes da narrativa e sua temática, foi comprovada. Verificou-se, portanto, que os objetivos de pesquisa de analisar as teorias do percurso gerativo de sentido para a identificação de temas em literatura infanto-juvenil são válidos para a proposta de que essas teorias façam parte do método para a identificação de temas. Os resultados do corpus analisado demonstram que o percurso gerativo de sentido é de grande auxílio para a identificação da estrutura textual, bem como o tema principal, junto com outros temas implícitos considerados importantes. / Abstract: The school library users request an infant-juvenile literature according to themes expressing their reading interests. To explain this need for information, the study of the documentary analysis of content was exploited for the identification of themes, focusing the strategy of textual exploitation based on the gerative sense course in infant-juvenile literature, in order to make its content accessible. The research problem investigated solutions for a suitable documentary analysis of content before implied terms which are necessary to the identification of themes. Applying, in this case, the methodology of exploratory study, which considered the interdisciplinarity among Science of Information, Textual Linguistics, Narrative and Discursive Semiotics, and Discursive Semantics, because together they elucidate the methods of identification of the document content and also explain the disposition and the theme of the fiction texts. The hypothesis saying that the gerative sense course makes the textual structure evident, alerting to the important parts of the narrative and its thematics, was verified. It was found, therefore, that the objectives of research to analyze the theories of the gerative sense course for the identification of themes in infant-juvenile literature apply to the proposal affirming that these theories are part of the method to identify the themes. The outcome of the corpus analyzed shows that the gerative sense course is very helpful to identify the textual structure, as well as the main theme, together with other implicit themes which are considered important. / Mestre

The chronicle has great importance for research under several aspects, also for its thematic. However, its analysis can be a complex matter, because it’s not possible to propose a textual structure for the chronicle, which demands an integral documentary reading. The dissertation presents, starting from literature revision, proposes an investigation of the nature of chronicles and the documentary analysis in its constituent phases. On the empirical field, the information representation in the documental processing of Carlos Drummond de Andrade’s chronicles collection, published in the Jornal do Brasil, made in an unit of specialized information, will be analyzed. In this unit of information, specialists in literature and information professionals have created gradually some procedures with purpose of facilitating the analysis and the record of the resultant data. Thus, theoretical and methodological fundamentation is sought for the treatment of journalistic chronicles, in order to improve its documentary analysis and the assistance to current users, as well as for future researchers. A preocupação central deste trabalho é a Análise Documentária que se faz de imagens fotográficas, estejam elas depositadas em acervos institucionais, agências ou bancos de imagens. Ainda que existam métodos e técnicas associados a este tipo de análise e mesmo que se pergunte quem está na fotografia, o que foi registrado, onde, quando e como, muitas vezes há falhas ou lacunas nas respostas. Por seu conteúdo histórico e valor informacional, o documento fotográfico requer cuidados especiais e um olhar especializado. A descrição e a extração de unidades de indexação (descritores ou palavras-chave) de uma fotografia demandam regras e métodos específicos. A metodologia proposta direciona a análise para o caráter indicial do documento fotográfico, bem como para a função e a importância do referente na determinação da indicialidade. Propomos esta ferramenta enquanto auxiliar do processo de análise da informação fotográfica pois podemos analisar a fotografia em termos de sua recepção, já que o tratamento e a recuperação da informação imagética são questões igualmente relevantes. Outrossim, por não perder de vista o referencial teórico da Documentação, apresentamos aproximações relativas ao conteúdo genérico, ao conteúdo específico e ao significado das imagens fotográficas. Nesta perspectiva, de maneira mais conclusiva, observamos qual a forma utilizada por estes conteúdos e este significado para se manifestarem: a Dimensão Expressiva da imagem fotográfica. Although there are many fine tools to help with the description and organization of visual documents such as photographs, and even though one asks who is in the photo, what was pictured, where, when and how that image is represented, the person who is processing the information still finds gaps on answering the representativeness of the image content. Photographic documents are important sources of cultural and historical information and for this reason it requires specialized management. Creating structural metadata on visual documents demands the use of standards and specific practices and, in some cases, authority lists. This methodology here presented leads the analysis toward the indice of the photographic document as so as to the importance and function of the referring on building the indice character. We propose this methodology to give guidance on the interpretability of the meaning of a photographic document in order to find the user information needs. Considering the theoretical matters of the Documentation Science we present approaches related to the generic content, to the specific content and to the meaning of the images. From this perspective and aiming a more conclusive approach, we examine how the content and the meaning of a photographic image manifests itself: its Expressive Dimension. Concerning the user information needs and the accuracy of the information retrieved, there is a cross-reference of some criteria that can be used to choose among several images according to their use. In addition to the proposed theme theoretical reference analysis, another procedure adopted was to observe the current situation of the Content Analysis of Photographic Images in some Brazilian archives, as well as the behavior of our proposal into some examples that were created.

This study provides a contribution to the historiography of management education in England. Criticism of British management expressed in Government policy over the past sixty years has concluded that a low level of management education in the UK is affecting its ability to compete. To this end there have been a number of government interventions in management education. The focus of this research is the first phase of government intervention in management education initiated in 1945. By considering the development of management education from a historical perspective this research adopts the theoretical stance that an understanding of the past can contribute to an understanding of management education today. The report of a committee on Education for Management appointed in 1945 by the Minister of Education, the Urwick Report (1947) and the subsequent Diploma in Management Studies (DMS), the first qualification in management studies, are used as vehicles to articulate the involvement and relationships of industry and government with regard to formal management education. From this, conclusions are drawn about the professional and policy processes at play and consideration given as to how these shaped subsequent practice. The method adopted was documentary analysis of primary sources which included published and unpublished administrative papers from government archives. Data from journals, a newspaper, and the archives of employee and employer bodies were referenced to provide context and support the validity of my interpretation. I conclude that the key contribution which the Urwick Report made to management education was in establishing the principle that there was a body of knowledge associated with management. The study illuminates policy processes surrounding management education at a particular time with regard to a specific report. During this period opportunities existed that, if actioned, could have significantly changed the education of managers in England. Government, industry and education were all party to these opportunities. Events surrounding the Urwick Report, and the subsequent implementation of the DMS, offer some useful lessons from the past.

Impulsionada pela imprecisão conceitual apontada pelo uso dos termos Organização da Informação e Organização do Conhecimento na área de Ciência da Informação, a pesquisa teve por objetivo verificar como a Organização da Informação e Organização do Conhecimento aparecem representadas na produção científica de Ciência da Informação, e se há relação temática estabelecida com a Análise Documentária e as Linguagens Documentárias. A hipótese levantada versa sobre a possibilidade do tema organização da informação aparecer primeiro nas discussões da literatura da área. Foi realizada pesquisa exploratória com base em revisão bibliográfica e pesquisa empírica em bases referências, grupos e programas de pesquisa em Ciência da Informação. Dentre os resultados verificados, foi possível aferir o maior uso do termo \"organização da informação\" em comparação ao uso do termo \"organização do conhecimento\", mas não foi possível confirmar a hipótese do uso primeiro de nenhum dos termos na descrição da produção científica. A forma de representação temática dos trabalhos indicou uma distinção entre Organização da Informação e Organização do Conhecimento. A pesquisa aponta que as relações entre Organização da Informação e Organização do Conhecimento com a Análise Documentária indicam a possibilidade da ocorrência de substituição/superação/incorporação dessa área. Já os instrumentos de Linguagem Documentária são notados em descrição conjunta com os termos de buscas alvo da pesquisa. / Stimulated by the imprecision conceptual pointed by the use of the terms Organization of the Information and Organization of the Knowledge in Science Information area, the research has had as an objective to check how the Organization of the Information and Organization of the knowledge were represented on the scientific production of Science Information, and if there is thematic relation established with the Documentary Analysis and Documentary Languages. The hypothesis raised examines about the possibility of the issue Organization of the Information emerge first at the discussions of the literature area. It was done an exploratory research with basis in bibliography review and an empirical research in basis references, groups and research programs in Science Information. Among the checked results, it was possible to compare the greatest use \"organization of the information\" comparing to \"organization of the knowledge\", but it was not possible to confirm the hypothesis of the first use of none terms on the scientific production description. The form of thematic representation of the works indicated a distinction between Organization of the Information and Organization of the knowledge with the Documentary Analysis indicates the possibility of the occurrence substitution/overcoming/incorporation of this area. Now the Documentary Language instruments are noticed in description joint with the terms of pointed searches of the research.
