Utilization of Dynamic Attributes in Resource Discovery for Network Virtualization

Amarasinghe, Heli 16 July 2012 (has links)
The success of the internet over last few decades has mainly depended on various infrastructure technologies to run distributed applications. Due to diversification and multi-provider nature of the internet, radical architectural improvements which require mutual agreement between infrastructure providers have become highly impractical. This escalating resistance towards the further growth has created a rising demand for new approaches to address this challenge. Network virtualization is regarded as a prominent solution to surmount these limitations. It decouples the conventional Internet service provider’s role into infrastructure provider (InP) and service provider (SP) and introduce a third player known as virtual network Provider (VNP) which creates virtual networks (VNs). Resource discovery aims to assist the VNP in selecting the best InP that has the best matching resources for a particular VN request. In the current literature, resource discovery focuses mainly on static attributes of network resources highlighting the fact that utilization on dynamic attributes imposes significant overhead on the network itself. In this thesis we propose a resource discovery approach that is capable of utilizing the dynamic resource attributes to enhance the resource discovery and increase the overall efficiency of VN creation. We realize that recourse discovery techniques should be fast and cost efficient, enough to not to impose any significant load. Hence our proposed scheme calculates aggregation values of the dynamic attributes of the substrate resources. By comparing aggregation values to VN requirements, a set of potential InPs is selected. The potential InPs satisfy basic VN embedding requirements. Moreover, we propose further enhancements to the dynamic attribute monitoring process using a vector based aggregation approach.

Dynamic web service discovery

Pahlevan, Atousa 10 January 2013 (has links)
Existing methods used for service discovery assume that the world is static, con- sidering a predetermined set of attributes. As a result, current discovery techniques return many results that are irrelevant. Our approach to high quality service dis- covery improves the results’ relevancy by considering dynamic attributes with values changing over time. Using this approach, we reveal structure from the data to satisfy the consumers’ experiences. Web service quality is a set of dynamic attributes used to rank services with similar functionalities. When picking a service to execute financial transactions effi- ciently, we might consider availability, reliability, response time, and transaction cost as quality indicators. Supporting dynamic attributes is a feature critical to providing exceptional quality service discovery. In addition, effective service discovery requires detailed context models that describe both static and dynamic features. The context takes into consideration the situation of the service, the operating environment, the users’ circumstances, and their preferences. For instance, latency is an important issue in stock trading services with direct impact on revenue. One of the main challenges in enabling dynamic service discovery is developing techniques and models to handle the novel aspects of the web service paradigm. This challenge leads to a variety of research questions related to measuring, monitoring, or querying of dynamic attributes, while guaranteeing integrity and validity. We outline an architecture framework called Static Discovery Dynamic Selection (SDDS) to gather and manage dynamic attributes considering both context and do- main information at discovery time—augmenting static mechanisms. The architec- ture of SDDS defines individual components that collectively satisfy flexible and ac- curate service selection with a robust resource management approach capable of con- sidering high-frequency data. Moreover, we devised a multi-criteria decision making algorithm that considers the knowledge domain and the user context, and accordingly, the algorithm returns a small set of accurate and reliable results. As part of the SDDS framework, autonomic computing adds self-adaptability by taking highly dynamic context information into account. The impact of our method is demonstrated in an implementation of the model. We demonstrate that increasing the adaptability of the web service discovery by including context information provides a noticeable reduction in the number of results returned compared to static web service discovery methods. We extend the proposed infrastructure to ascertain whether a particular service satisfies, at execution time, specific security properties. We introduce the notion of certified web service assurance, characterizing how consumers of the service can specify the set of security properties that a service should satisfy. In addition, we illustrate a mechanism to re-check security properties when the execution context changes. To this end, we introduce the concept of a context-aware certificate and describe a dynamic, context-aware service discovery environment. / Graduate

Attribute-Based Encryption with dynamic attribute feature applied in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks / Attributbaserad kryptering med dynamisk attributfunktion tillämpad i fordonsbaserade ad hoc-nätverk

Huang, Zijian January 2022 (has links)
The Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is a promising approach for future Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) implementation. The data transmission is wireless primarily in the VANET system. The secure data transmission in VANET attracts research attention without any doubt. The Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) provides an encrypted access control mechanism for broadcasting messages in VANET. The user’s attributes stand for its current property. However, if we apply vehicle location as the attribute, this attribute has to keep up-to-date with the vehicle’s movement. It is not easy for current CP-ABE algorithms because whenever one attribute changes, the entire private key, which is based on all the attributes, must be changed. In this thesis, we apply fading function to realize the “dynamic attribute” feature in CP-ABE. The dynamic attribute allows the user to update each attribute separately, and fading function gives each attribute a valid period. We introduce the dynamic attribute feature to three different CP-ABE algorithms. Then we design a VANET system that applies the CP-ABE with dynamic attribute feature. We evaluate the processing time of three different CP-ABE algorithms. We apply two different pairing curves for different security requirements. Our results show that the introduction of fading function does not cause significant extra time cost to current CP-ABE algorithms. The fading function causes extra 0.2ms on average for each attribute that participates in encryption and decryption. The sum-up time for encryption and decryption is between 100ms to 200ms when there are ten attributes participating in encryption and decryption.
