Effects of an Intimate Partner Violence Intervention on Relationship Behaviors with Tests of Moderators: A Multilevel Analysis

Franchot, Katie 08 August 2017 (has links)
Annually, nearly 7 million women and 5.5 million men experience some form of intimate partner violence, which has serious health impacts. IPV has also been shown to limit the impact of early childhood home visiting interventions. Given the positive impacts of home visiting, reducing IPV in that setting could alleviate the negative impacts of IPV and improve mother and child outcomes as well. The analysis performed are from data from a randomized trial of an intimate partner violence intervention that was embedded into the Nurse Family Partnership, an evidence-based home visiting program. The intervention focused on identifying IPV, and for women without severe IPV, improving relationship skills including communication patterns and conflict resolution. The goal of this analysis is to examine how changes in partner and history of IPV moderate the relationship skills outcomes. This study aims to fill the gap in knowledge regarding the relationship between a home visiting intervention and relationship skill outcomes in women enrolled in the home visiting program, the Nurse Family Partnership. The purpose of the study is to discover whether the relationship skills differ in participants with stable vs. unstable partnerships and with those who experienced IPV before the start of the study. Women were randomized to NFP as usual (n=105) or NFP+, which included NFP plus the IPV intervention (n=133). Participants were surveyed at baseline, and at one and two-year follow-up with 81% retention over 2 years. Standardized assessment tools assessed relationship quality, communication, problem solving, partner support, relationship decision making, and psychological maltreatment. Marginal modeling was conducted to examine whether the intervention accounted for any change in relationship variables and whether the impact is moderated by history of IPV and changes in partnership. Multilevel modeling of the outcome variables showed some main effects of time such that conflict resolution improves for the intervention group (p<0.05). There is one clinically significant three-way interaction showing reduced relationship danger in the intervention for women with a history of IPV (p<0.06). There were no significant interactions for the partnership change moderator.

Influence of Purchase Intention from Product Involvement and Advertising Effectiveness

Huang, Chien-Wei 09 July 2010 (has links)
There are hundreds of channels in Taiwan. Because of computer and internet developing, people in Taiwan communicate easily to everyone in the world. It causes conflicts and challenges such as economy, business, and culture. The main source of profits in channels and web is advertising. According to AC Nielsen in Taiwan, Advertising industry in Taiwan outputs $40 billion in 2007, and its growing can figure out in future. So this study is to discuss the influence of Advertising Effectiveness in Product Involvement and Purchase Intention. This study set to sampling 18-40 years old. It includes male and female. The methods of this study are such as Descriptive Statistics, Multiple Regression, and ANOVA. The Advertising Effectiveness is the moderator in this study. To discuss the issues of the moderator model explains the effect of strength and direction of Purchase Intention. The hypotheses of this study are presented as follows: 1.Product Involvement has statistically influence on Purchase Intention. 2.Advertising Effectiveness has statistically influence on Purchase Intention. 3.The interaction of Product Involvement and Advertising Effectiveness as statistically influence. The conclusions are presented as all hypotheses to show: 1.On Purchase Intention, the Product Involvement will influence consumers¡¦ purchase decision. 2.Advertising also influence consumers¡¦ purchase decision. 3.The effect of the interaction explains synergy from Product Involvement and Advertising Effectiveness to consumers.

The effect of downsizing on job involvement and job atisfaction¡ÐA moderator of training transfer

Hsu, Chang-Loong 19 June 2004 (has links)
In our country, military is becoming the frame of ¡§Consistent Authority and Responsibility¡¨ and ¡§Professional Department¡¨ due to the military downsizing trend and, besides, the situations between Taiwan and Mainland China--- As a result, we reduce the army personnel number down to 380 thousand members. The sample consisted of 368 officers & sergeant selected from the military. The data were analyzed by applying statistical methods, including factor analysis, reliability, one-way ANOVA, correlation and regression. Training transfer moderated the relationship between downsizing and job involvement, and got the important discoveries are stated separately as follows: 1. From our questioned officers & sergeant, they are not identified with the organization downsizing. National Defensive Department should take this seriously to figure ways out to lift army morale. 2. The different individual variables to downsizing consciousness, job involvement, job satisfaction and training transfer comes out a partly remarkable discrepancy. 3. Downsizing consciousness, job involvement, job satisfaction and training transfer reveals outstanding positive relation. 4. The interaction of efficiency changed consciousness and training transfer interference effect to the identification of job significance.

Eating Disorders : Steps Towards an Increased Understanding

Welch, Elisabeth January 2014 (has links)
Eating disorders and disordered eating attitudes and behaviors are characterized by an over-evaluation of weight and shape, under or over-controlled eating, as well as engagement in compensatory behaviors. The disorders are associated with psychological suffering, acute and long-term health impairments, a high rate of suicide attempts as well as an increased risk of mortality. Knowledge regarding the etiology of eating disorders is limited and based on current models it is not possible to adequately predict either who will get an eating disorder or who will recover. This lack of understanding has hindered the development of effective prevention and treatment interventions. The aim of the present thesis was to contribute towards an increased understanding of eating disorders and disordered eating attitudes and behavior through the collection of norms and psychometric data, investigation of risk factors and their roles, and focusing on the understudied group of males with eating disorders. Five studies were included. Specifically, Study I focused on collecting general population and clinical norms on the well-established Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and the Clinical Impairment Assessment Questionnaire (CIA). Study II both collected general population norms on, and investigated psychometric properties of, the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-8C), an instrument intended to assess body dissatisfaction. Study III focused on the role of perfectionism (an established risk factor for eating disorders) as a possible mediator or moderator between body dissatisfaction and disordered eating behavior and attitudes. Finally, in Study IV and V attention was placed on males. In Study IV the specific aim was to compare the clinical characteristics between young males and females with eating disorders while in study V the specific aim was to explore variables associated with disordered eating among young males based on a compilation of factors known to play a role among females as well as factors thought to be uniquely associated with males, such as sexual orientation and drive for muscularity. A greater understanding of eating disorders will help reduce the stigma that is associated with eating disorders, easing the way for affected individuals to seek help and ultimately improve the development of effective prevention and intervention.

The myth of social media : A qualitative study of deliberation and power in Facebook-pages of the Swedish Police / Myten om sociala medier : En kvalitativ studie av deliberativitet och maktutövning på Polisens Facebook-sidor

Ljungkvist, Johan January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to discuss the use of social media by the Swedish Police for democratic purposes. The idea of citizen empowerment is closely related to the development of new communication technologies such as social media. Yet many studies indicate that governmental institutions rarely make use of the assumed potentials of social media. In this study, the democratic potential of social media is derived from Habermas normative concept of deliberative participation. Operational definitions emphasize discursive equality, interactive reciprocity and external impact. The analytical framework is combined with qualitative text analysis to highlight the conditions of interaction between representatives of the Police and citizens. In conclusion: the democratic potential of social media, from a Habermasian point of view, is to a significant extent neglected at the expense of its strategic advantages. In fact, the promise of interactive reciprocity obscures the passivisation and disempowerment of citizens. However, the study is limited to a specific sphere of influence and does not account for other forms of citizen participation made possible with social media or modern ICT.

The Impact of Human Resources on Nurses' Turnover Intention

Jackson, Anita Estell 01 January 2020 (has links)
Nurse retention is of great concern to healthcare organizations including hospitals. With so many countries reporting a shortage in nursing personnel, healthcare organizations are now seeking ways to reduce this shortage. It is known that job satisfaction and turnover intention impact nurses' continued employment. However, the role of human resources (HR) impact on nurses' job satisfaction and turnover intention is unknown. The theoretical basis of this study came from the work of Bowen and Ostroff who argued the strength of HRM system regulates employee perceptions and outcomes within an organization. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact HR service quality had on registered nurses' turnover intentions mediated by job satisfaction and moderated by gender, in a hospital setting within the state of Maryland. Data was collected from 83 registered nurses licensed in Maryland. A multiple regression analysis of data collected from HR service quality measures of responsiveness, reliability, and empathy in addition to gender, job satisfaction, and turnover intention revealed statistically nonsignificant results involving nurses' perceptions of HR service quality predicting turnover intention. Job satisfaction failed to mediate the relationship between HR service quality indicators and turnover intention, and gender failed to moderate the relationship between HR service quality indicators and turnover intention. Although the research revealed statistically nonsignificant findings, it adds to the body of literature regarding the topic of HR service quality. This study has social change implications by informing healthcare organizations about the significant role of HR service quality indicators and its impact on nursing job satisfaction and turnover intention.

Brottsbrytet. En kvalitativ studie av programledares uppfattning om behandlingsprogrammet Brottsbrytet.

Magnusson, Johanna, Ingvarsson, Kate January 2020 (has links)
Brottsbrytet has been going through some changes since 2018, including going from being a theory-based program to becoming a module-based program. Since the change, not much research has been done either on the effectiveness or on the implementation of the treatment program, which made the subject relevant to study. The purpose of the study was therefore to study the moderator's perception of the treatment program Brottsbrytet in Sweden. The current study is based on a cross-sectional design with a qualitative approach and is using semi-structured telephone interviews. The sample was 20 institutions that, according to information, are working with Brottsbrytet and were asked to participate in the current study. Of all people who were asked to participate, the results were six interviews from six different institutions. This study showed an overall positive attitude towards the specific program. The common guidelines are used in a flexible way, which means that the manual is followed partly and other components in the starting points are also used. Education and experience are important for the effect of the process and that is used by moderator's of Brottsbrytet in Sweden today. The result shows that there exist some problems with the treatment program according to the moderators that can affect the implementation and the effect of the program. Brottsbrytet may, based on the results of this study, need a longer treatment process where for example enforcement may be relevant.

Examining the Role of Purpose in the Adoption of Digital Assistants

Nathanael Johnson (8797193) 04 May 2020 (has links)
When do consumers adopt digital personal assistants like Cortana, Siri, or Alexa? This thesis proposes to add to the current technology adoption literature on digital assistants by examining the moderating impact of the purpose for which the device is used. Building on the theory of uses and gratifications, it was expected that devices viewed with high cognitive appraisal would be more likely to be chosen for cognitive purposes than devices viewed with high affective appraisal, while devices viewed with high affective appraisal would be more likely to be selected for affective purposes than devices viewed with high cognitive appraisal. Two experiments were conducted that supported these hypotheses.

MODCONV: A Computer Code to Predict the Local Velocities and Temperatures Inside a Moderator

Chan, Yuk-Tong 04 1900 (has links)
MODCONV is a FORTRAN Computer code using the primitive form of the conservation equations for natural convection in porous medium to calculate the velocity and temperature distribution in the moderator of a typical CANDU reactor under normal and shut down operations, as well as postulated LOCA for which the rupture in the system is external to the core. Appropriate velocities are imposed at the boundary walls so that the free convection equations set can be used to model a mixed convection problem. Purely explicit, donor cell finite differencing scheme is used. A heat exchanger model using NTU method is also included to give a realistic inflow temperature for the moderator. The heat load distribution is calculated according to a channel power map, but can be redefined through input. / Thesis / Master of Engineering (MEngr)
