Die klem is op rekursiewe en selfverwysende prosesse wat tussen die terapeut en kiient plaasvind, sodat die vvyse waarop intiemer en meer afstandelike interaksies ge-kokreer is, uitgelig word. Die terapeutiese proses word binne die raamwerk van die ekosistemiese en sosiale konstruksionistiese epistomologie bespreek. Navorsing word uitgevoer volgens die naturalistiese navorsingsparadigma en raakpunte tussen die navorsingsparadigma en epistomologie wat bespreek is, word aan die hand van die gevaliestudie ge"illustreer. In die studie word daar ook verwys na verwante kwessies, soos aanraking en grense in die terapeutiese verhouding, terapie as 'n a-sosiale konteks, terapie as 'n paradoksale situasie en die neutraliteit van die terapeut, wat aansluit by die tema van hierdie studie. Hierdie temas word geintegreer tydens die bespreking van die gevallestudie. / An individual case study is used in this study, to discuss the complementarity between distance and intimacy in the therapeutic relationship. The focus is on recursive and selfreflective processes between the therapist and the client in order to explain the way in which intimate and distant interactions were coconstructed. The therapeutic process was discussed in the context of ecosystemic and social constructionist epistemologies. Research was done according to the principles of the naturalistic research paradigm and overlaps between this research paradigm and epistemologies that were discussed are brought forward through the discussion of the case study. There are also
references in this study to related issues, such as touching and boundaries in the therapeutic relationship, therapy as an a-social and paradoxical context, and the neutrality of the therapist, which connect with the theme of this study. Towards an ecosystemic understanding of suicidal behaviourEksteen, Elmarié 03 1900 (has links)
In this dissertation the literature on suicidal behaviour is reviewed, with particular emphasis on professional conceptualizations and understanding as informed by the psychiatric and sociological paradigms. Basic postulates of the Ecosystemic paradigm, as it is informed by Maturana's second-order cybernetic approach was discussed. The effect of such an approach on therapy with suicidal individuals was pointed out. It became clear that perceived methodological problems experienced when researching suicidal behaviour from a Newtonian/realist paradigm can be side-stepped when viewed from an Ecosystemic paradigm.
It was finally proposed that an ethic of participation, as informed by a second-order cybernetic approach, be adopted when viewing the suicide situation. In the process ethics was reconceptualized as an awareness of the therapist's participation in whatever is created, and not in finding the ''right" way when working with suicidal individuals. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

Behind training : differentiation of self of a psychotherapy traineeVan der Merwe, Sasja 02 October 2013 (has links)
Psychotherapy is an interpersonal encounter where a therapist collaborates with
clients to facilitate a healing process. Due to the personal nature of the therapeutic encounter,
the therapist requires the necessary skills and knowledge, as well as a differentiated sense of
self. The importance of supporting the psychotherapy trainee’s own differentiation process
seemed to have been neglected in research in recent years. In South Africa there has recently
been increasing pressure to select larger groups of trainees which has the risk that the tending
to differentiation would further be neglected. The purpose of this research study is to reemphasise
the importance of differentiation of self of the psychotherapy trainee by examining
my own process of differentiation during my psychotherapy training. This study introduces
the reader to these concepts and explores psychotherapy training in general and the Unisa
training method specifically. The research design of this study is autoethnography which falls
in the realm of social constructionism and the coding method is Thematic Data Analysis. The
research findings as reflected in the two global themes namely individuation; and gaining
and strengthening authentic relationships, seem to accurately reflect the process of
differentiation. The specific training method of the Unisa training team in combination with
the way in which I engaged with this process seemed important for the facilitation of this
