Postmodernism, democratisation and transformation : implications for teacher college management

Lowan, Vongane Manasse 12 September 2012 (has links)
D.Ed. / Since postmodernism according to Von Recum (1990:10) has to do with the dissolution of universal meanings for the world and life, along with the process of egalitarianism, that is, equality for all people, and dehierarchisation, and dismantling of authority, the administration and management processes of colleges of education are invariably influenced by the movement. This investigation therefore seeks to find out the influence of postmodernism, that is, dehierarchisation and dismantling of bureaucratic authority by students and lecturers on the generic processes of administration and the significance of it for educational management. The dehierarchisation process will, in the view of this study, make it possible for the colleges of education to be democratised and to be transformed. It would appear that the colleges of education have difficulties in coping with the demands of the postmodern times that are characterised by democratisation and transformation. This study therefore intends to examine the paradigms or models that may help these institutions to succeed in accomplishing the missions for which they were established which is to nurture and to train teachers.

To do so, it has been necessary to ask, through interviews, among other aspects, what the counsel understands for external assessment, its purpose for school, besides the fact of how to proceed on the use of the gathered results to help their pedagogical work. On the interviews it is possible to be better understood the anguish by which these professionals go through and how they face the direction of their job towards the legal things that guide their day by day work. In addition to the interviews, theoretical professionals specialized on assessment, school management, participation and changes were required so that it would be possible to apprehend better the researched subject. Regarding the results, it is possible to notice a kind of difficulty the Pedagogical Counsels have to utilize the external assessment information based on its proposal, which is to improve the quality of learning. Moreover, these professionals have no experience to promote teachers capacity at the schools where they work.

Managing Performance Management and Development Systems (PMDS) in the Districts of the Gauteng Department of Education

Sefora, Justice Thabo 02 1900 (has links)
In 2003, Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) introduced policies on performance management in an endeavour to improve the quality of teaching and learning in schools. With these policies, schools are supposed to be constantly audited, monitored, and supported by district officials. Within district offices, there are unit supervisors who are responsible to manage PMDS to inculcate a performance culture. This performance culture is subsequently cascaded down to schools to yield quality matric results and yet this remains to be seen. Furthermore, the study aimed to explore the experiences and perceptions of supervisors and officials on the PMDS management within districts. With an interpretive paradigm, the researcher was able to analyse data from interviews and questionnaires. The study revealed that PMDS is generally acknowledged and positively perceived albeit with significant challenges to its implementation in the GDE districts. / Educational Leadership and Management / M.Ed. Lundström, Hanna, Isaksson, Hilda January 2015 (has links)
Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes have an expressed need of support and knowledge to perform self-care interventions, to integrate the illness in daily life as well as to avoid complications. Aim: The aim of this study was to identify and describe the experiences of participating in a support group in patients with type 2 diabetes. Method: The study was performed with an empirical qualitative design with an inductive approach. Eleven participants who had attended the support group for patients with type 2 diabetes participated in semi-structured interviews. Conventional qualitative content analysis was used in the analysis. Results: Participation in a person-centered support group for patients with type 2 diabetes meant that they met others with the same disease but with different life situations and experiences, which provided a basis for discussions and reflections where they received new knowledge and understanding. The design and process of the support group with preselected themes, the presence of professional diabetes nurses and an open debate atmosphere where participants could share their opinions were considered rewarding. Conclusion: Participants in the support groups were given new insights and perspectives on their own life situation, and also a realization that the problems of everyday life demand are individual and requires various solutions.

The implementation of Integrated Quality Management System in Primary Schools of Mopani District of Limpopo Province

Mhangani, Mashawu Elisa January 2011 (has links)
Thesis (M.Ed.) -- University of Limpopo, 2012 / The purpose of this study was to look at the experiences, trainings, resources, benefits and challenges faced by schools in the implementation of the Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) in the primary schools of the Nkowankowa Circuit at the Mopani District of Limpopo Province. As a result, the researcher was motivated to conduct a study on this topic. The scope of the research was restricted to two primary schools in the circuit. The government officials, principals, school development teams and educators had to respond to the questions asked during the interview between the researcher and the participants. Thus, the research methodology was qualitative in which a case study design was used. The sampling strategy was non-probability which led to purposive sampling to schools and participants. Data were collected through interviews, observations and documents and were analysed using the spiral steps of Creswell (2007). The findings of this study were that training was inadequate to the implementers. The support given by the Department was not enough. The resources at schools were lacking, hence little benefit by educators since IQMS started. The results showed disclosed that the majority of the participants feel that many things still have to be done for the effective implementation of IQMS, and all role players in schools need to join hands and assist one another. That is why there were lot of challenges which schools are encountering. This will give schools new shapes and performance in general will improve. Therefore, IQMS is partially implemented

The first scale consists of &ldquo / Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory II (ROCI II)&rdquo / and &ldquo / Eyesenck Personality Inventory (EPI). The results of these questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS 15.0. This data gathering instrument was implemented on 120 English instructors working at METU, TOBB ETU, &Ccedil / ankaya University, Atilim University, and Trakya University. Data gathered from 30 English instructors from the same universities were used for the piloting of the study. The data gathered from 120 English instructors in English Preparatory Schools represented the results of the main study. In analyzing the data, descriptive statistics as frequency, percent, average, and standard deviation, and inferential statistics as ANOVA was used. As the second scale of the current study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 English instructors employed at these universities. The results of the interviews were analyzed through content analysis. The results of the study revealed that there is a relationship between English instructors&rsquo / use of negotiation strategies and their gender, age, educational background, work experience and the personality traits of introversion-extroversion.
