The effect of an agency-based HIV/AIDS education programme on the knowledge and attitudes of undergraduate students at WSU

Wopula, Luvuyo David January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of an agency-based HIV/AIDS Education programme on knowledge and attitudes of undergraduate students at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) in South Africa. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups. A questionnaire was designed, validated and used to assess knowledge and attitudes of students towards HIV/AIDS who went through the HIV/AIDS education programme (HAEP) and those who did not. The questions were derived and based on basic HIV/AIDS information as part of the 'Alternative National Curriculum on Responsibility' (AANCHOR) programme used by first year WSU staff which was used in the United States of America. The study findings indicate that knowledge and attitudes of the students improved after the intervention. After the intervention, the t-test showed that students‟ attitudes on HIV/AIDS were found to be significant (p=0.045) when comparing the pre- experimental and intervention groups. However, the study also found that some participants displayed ignorance on the knowledge of HIV/AIDS and its effects. For example, some students believe that mosquitoes can spread HIV/AIDS. On the basis of findings the researcher recommends that all first year students should be expose to WSU HAEP because it is a necessity for empowerment with social, self- dependent skills (against HIV/AIDS) and self efficacy. Key words: HIV/AIDS, knowledge, attitudes, Education programme, students.

It was chosen three pupils which attended the same lower secondary school and transfer to the same upper secondary school. Using questionnaires and mathematical test, which were given in September 2014 and January 2015, was reviewed their transfer from the point of view pedagogical-psychical and mathematical. These questionnaires were given to the teachers also. This transfer was mostly negative for pupils. The level of knowledge of mathematics was the same or even worse. It is caused by different teacher's access to teaching mathematics. We could hope that this situation will be changed in a couple months. Přechod žáků mezi základní a střední školou z hlediska výuky matematiky / Transfer from the lower to upper secondary school from the point of view of teaching mathematics

Rašovský, Matěj January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is aimed at the transfer of pupils from lower to upper secondary schools from the point of view of teaching mathematics. Three pupils were selected who attended the same lower secondary school and moved to the same upper secondary school. The impact of the change of schools on the girls (from the pedagogical-psychological and mathematical points of view) was measured via questionnaires and mathematical tests. The girls' teachers were given similar questionnaires to see what their views of some characteristics of the girls were. It was found out that the change of schools had mostly negative effects for the pupils. During their first half of the year at the secondary school, their knowledge of algebraic expressions did not improve and their attitude to mathematics got worse, mainly due to the higher demands of the new teacher. It is assumed that this is only a temporary issue and that the girls' attitude to mathematics will improve again when they get used to the new way of teaching.
