Electrical Energy consumption prediction for Schools

Movva, Venkata Sreenadh January 2022 (has links)
This thesis is a part of the master's in data science course at LTU. The core objective would be to build models that can do a short-term prediction of electricity energy consumption based on historical consumption data. With the increasing demand for electricity, forecasting electricity consumption is important and must be more accurate and closer to the actual values. As a part of this thesis, three different time series forecasting models are studied and experimented. The first model is based on an ensemble of Facebook prophet and XGBoost models together, the second model is based on deep learning neural network using Long short-term memory a Recurrent Neural Network, the third model is based on Convolution neural network. The performance of these three models is discussed and improvements needed, are also mentioned. These three models are trained with data from 2014-2019 and predictions are evaluated with 2020. As 2020 is the core of the COVID-19 pandemic season, offices were closed and this has impact on the model performance and evaluations. These impacts are also highlighted. Cross Industry standard process for Data mining methodology is followed in this thesis.

The role of the small-scale feed-in tariff in electricity system transition in the UK

Aldridge, James Edward January 2013 (has links)
Carbon reduction commitments and renewable energy targets have become legal drivers of electricity policy in the UK. Meeting those targets will require a transition in the way that electricity is generated, supplied and consumed. This thesis argues that small-‐scale renewable electricity technologies (<5MW) could have an important role in driving that transition. The thesis evaluates the role of the feed-‐in tariff -‐ a policy mechanism designed to stimulate the deployment of small-‐scale renewable electricity technologies -‐ in electricity system transition in the UK. The research is based on empirical information generated from 37 industry interviews, observations of industry and government meetings and events, and secondary analysis of consultation responses, publications and statistics from government and the energy regulator, Ofgem. The analysis is structured with a framework that draws on transition theory and breaks down the findings into a niche (micro/developing) level, a regime (incumbent electricity system) level and a landscape (contextual) level. The thesis finds that the FIT has driven solar photovoltaic development and innovation at an unprecedented rate. The other renewable technologies supported under the FIT (wind, hydropower and anaerobic digestion) have not been as widely deployed. It is argued that additional policy support is required to overcome the non-‐financial barriers that these technologies face. The thesis concludes that the role of the FIT in system transition has been to drive a level and pace of activity in the solar sector that has demonstrated the potential for alternative generation options. This has informed the politicised debate around electricity policy in the UK but it is argued that continued, broader, stable support is required if small-‐scale renewable technologies are to have a positive role in electricity system transition. The research has relevance to both academic and policy circles focused on electricity policy, the decarbonisation of energy systems and socio-‐technical system transitions.

Modeling the rebound effect in two manufacturing industries

Safarzynska, Karolina 07 1900 (has links) (PDF)
The rebound effect refers to the phenomenon that energy savings from improvements in energy efficiency are lower than expected due to unintended second-order effects. Grasping specific mechanisms related to the rebound effect requires a good understanding of interactions between heterogonous agents on multiple markets. Otherwise, policies aimed at reducing energy use may render counter-expected and unforeseen consequences. In this paper, we propose a formal model, where technological change results from interactions on two markets: between consumers and producers in the market for final goods, and heterogeneous power plants in the electricity market. The analysis provides insights to the role of technological change, supply-demand coevolution, and status-driven consumption in explaining the rebound effect. The model is employed to compare effectiveness of economic policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions associated with production of consumer goods, namely: a tax on electricity and "nuclear obligations" to produce ten percent of electricity from nuclear energy. Elektros energijos naudojimo tyrimas medienos apdirbimo pramonėje / The reasearch of electricity energy consume at wood processing industry

Ignatavičius, Edgaras 29 September 2008 (has links)
Engineering prime costs increase because of a great consumption input of electricity energy at framework house manufacture, which directly influence company profit. It is possible to produce much more wood processing industry output (or to consume less electricity energy while producing the same quantity), not only by creating new mechanisms of greater wood processing productivity, but also by racionally using the present ones and constantly modernizing them. The consume of electricity energy of the JSC „Namų statyba“ which specializes at manufacturing and building framework houses is being researched at this work. The target was to estimate the saving potencial of electricity energy and to come from company electricity energy consume to the norm of electricity energy that is necessary to build a single framework house. Wood processing operation at which it is possible to reduce electricity energy consumtion was estimated after the research. The reasoned methods how to increase the effectiveness of electricity energy are presented as well.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Alex Ricardo Arquinego Paz.pdf: 1215286 bytes, checksum: 346776688a2985bd55dd36d813b4e81a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2004-03-05 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The main objective of this research is to implement and evaluate the performance of a numerical solver known as DASSL, in a transient and long-term stability program, applied in the solution of differential and algebraic equations representing the network and its components. The solver is a computer code purely mathematic, ready to use, comprising numerical methods suitable to the analysis of interested phenomena. The user must develop an interface to the input and output data according to his personal interests, i.e., according to the problem being solved. The solver efficiency was tested in several steps. The beginning was over the solution of a first order ordinary differential equation, moving to computer tests with hypothetical power systems, increasing gradatively the computer simulation complexity. The obtained results revealed that this solver is very efficient in time domain transient and long-term stability studies, certifying that the power system dimension is either small- or medium-port. The resulting information from this work form the basis to the implementation of advanced solvers in a stability program. The goal is, independently of the power system size, provide a small processing time keeping the reliability of the numerical results.

Leal, Lydiane Abdon 28 July 2005 (has links)
Orientador: Paulo Sergio Franco Barbosa / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Mecanica / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-06T12:45:30Z (GMT). The decision processes and institutional relationships along the stages of the brazilian electricity energy supply chain have been strongly changed during the reform process, thus requiring that restructuring be well fitted to the new hybrid environment (state and private) with market players, state companies and a regulator. One of the most important aspects in this process is the interaction among the state regulation and the competitive management, thus requering a dynamic equilibrium between these two players. A possible way to achieve this equilibrium and also increase the efficiency of the energy system, with separate businesses for each stage of the supply chain, could be the integrative management and the proposal of a set of initiatives to encourage the cooperation along the extended supply chain stages. In this context, this research work aims at presenting the current configuration of the brazilian electricity supply chain, with a description of the main changes after deregulation of the electric sector, as wel as its impacts on the supply chain as a whole. The proposed methodology includes qualitative and quantitative analysis, in order to show that the systemic analysis of the electricity energy supply chain is a conceptual framework very apropriated to the identification of potentialities and weakness that can pose risks to the efficiency in the competitive markets. With the description of all these aspects, this researck work aims at bring real contributions to the current planning needs in the area, with specific emphasis on the efforts to achieve integration and conexion among the most relevant components and processes of the energy system to decision making process, as well as the introduction of new concepts with potential to extend the present knowledge in this area / Doutorado / Planejamento de Sistemas Energeticos / Doutor em Engenharia Mecânica
