In comparison with the linear controllers more utilized, the non -linear controllers present the advantage of not requiring the linearity of the system to determine the parameters of control, which permits a more efficient control especially when the system presents a high level of non-linearity. Another additional advantage is the reduction of costs, since to obtain the efficient control through linear controllers it is necessary the utilization of sensors and more refined actuators than when it is utilized a non-linear controller. Among the non-linear theories of control, the method of control by gliding ways is detached for being a method that presents more robustness, before uncertainties. It is already confirmed that the adoption of compensation on the region of residual error permits to improve better the performance of these controllers. So, in this work it is described the development of a non-linear controller that looks for an association of strategy of control by gliding ways, with the fuzzy compensation technique. Through the implementation of some strategies of fuzzy compensation, it was searched the one which provided the biggest efficiency before a system with high level of nonlinearities and uncertainties. The electrohydraulic actuator was utilized as an example of research, and the results appoint to two configurations of compensation that permit a bigger reduction of the residual error / O desenvolvimento de controladores n?o lineares ganharam espa?o nos ?mbitos te?rico e de aplica??es pr?ticas no momento que o surgimento de computadores digitais possibilitou a implementa??o destas metodologias. Em compara??o aos controladores lineares mais utilizados, os controladores n?o lineares apresentam a vantagem de n?o necessitarem da lineariza??o do sistema para determinar os par?metros de controle, o que permite um controle mais eficiente principalmente quando o sistema apresenta elevado grau de n?o linearidade. Outra vantagem adicional ? a redu??o dos custos, uma vez que para obter o controle eficiente atrav?s dos controladores lineares ? necess?ria a utiliza??o de sensores e atuadores mais refinados do que quando se utiliza um controlador n?o linear. Dentre as teorias de controle n?o linear, o m?todo de controle por modos deslizantes se destaca por ser um m?todo que apresenta maior robustez frente ?s incertezas. We are pleased to present the conference proceedings for the 12th edition of the International Fluid Power Conference (IFK). The IFK is one of the world’s most significant scientific conferences on fluid power control technology and systems. It offers a common platform for the presentation and discussion of trends and innovations to manufacturers, users and scientists. The Chair of Fluid-Mechatronic Systems at the TU Dresden is organizing and hosting the IFK for the sixth time. Supporting hosts are the Fluid Power Association of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), Dresdner Verein zur Förderung der Fluidtechnik e. V. (DVF) and GWT-TUD GmbH. The organization and the conference location alternates every two years between the Chair of Fluid-Mechatronic Systems in Dresden and the Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems in Aachen. The symposium on the first day is dedicated to presentations focused on methodology and fundamental research. The two following conference days offer a wide variety of application and technology orientated papers about the latest state of the art in fluid power. It is this combination that makes the IFK a unique and excellent forum for the exchange of academic research and industrial application experience. A simultaneously ongoing exhibition offers the possibility to get product information and to have individual talks with manufacturers. The theme of the 12th IFK is “Fluid Power – Future Technology”, covering topics that enable the development of 5G-ready, cost-efficient and demand-driven structures, as well as individual decentralized drives. Another topic is the real-time data exchange that allows the application of numerous predictive maintenance strategies, which will significantly increase the availability of fluid power systems and their elements and ensure their improved lifetime performance. We create an atmosphere for casual exchange by offering a vast frame and cultural program. A closed circuit electro-hydraulic actuator with energy recuperation capability

The recent electrification trend in the off-road market has incentivized research towards the proposal of compact, cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions for hydraulic actuators. As a result, increased attention has been given to electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA) architectures. The paper offers a study performed on a novel closed-circuit EHA architecture with the goal to maximize the overall system efficiency while meeting or exceeding traditional off-road applications performance, thereby enabling further electrification of off-road applications. Both numerical and experimental approaches are utilized to validate the functionality of the proposed EHA circuital configuration in four quadrants. Moreover, the actuator functionality at both high and low velocities are considered, which has never been explored in the past due to the limitations on the hydraulic machine driving speed. The good match between the experimental data and the simulation results confirms the potential of the simulation model for sizing such EHA architecture for different actuator sizes, duty cycles, and performance levels.

Fully variable, simple and efficient - electrohydraulic - valve train for reciprocating engines

A new camless electrohydraulic valve train concept for combustion engines was developed at Empa (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, Dübendorf, Switzerland) and tested on a spark ignition passenger car engine. Besides full flexibility with regard to lift and timing of the engine gas exchange valves it features robustness, simplicity and in particular a low own drive power need due to a maximum of hydraulic energy recuperation. The engine test results confirm substantial efficiency gains in classical as well as in hybrid power trains while also maintaining additional advantages. The system also has the potential to become a key element for load control of piston based compressors and expanders, reciprocating Joule Cycle engines and derivable future electricity storage systems.

Bootstrap reservoir concepts for electro-hydraulic compact cylinder drives

This paper presents a conceptual study aiming to improve the compactness of electro-hydraulic compact drives (ECD ). In most current ECD architectures, gas accumulators are used as volume compensators for the flow imbalance emerging whenever asymmetric single rod cylinders are used. To stay within a required reservoir pressure range typically from two to four bar, a large gas volume is required, compromising system compactness. Combining conventional ECD architectures with a bootstrap reservoir offers a greater degree of freedom in system design, which enables downsizing or avoidance of the gas volume. Another potential benefit by including a bootstrap reservoir is the possibility of elevating the backpressure of the ECD thus enhancing drive stiffness, expanding the application range and market acceptance. Based on an open analysis of the solution space occurring when introducing a bootstrap reservoir, three system architectures are selected for a conceptual study. The results show that the downsizing potential is strongly dependent on the maximum friction force and the area ratio of the bootstrap reservoir pistons, while a linear analysis reveals that for some system architectures the bootstrap reservoir may severely influence the system dynamics. Simulation results confirm the functionality of the proposed system architectures, and show that a potential for downsizing/avoiding the gas volume, as well as increasing the ECD stiffness is present.

Multi Purpose Electro-Hydraulic Converter for More Electrical Power : A Case Study of Using Electro-Hydraulic Energy Converters in a Fighter Aircraft Application

The hydraulic system in a fighter aircraft is not fully utilised during large parts of the flight mission were more electrical power is needed. To better utilise the hydraulic power the current Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump (AHP) and the Emergency Hydraulic Pump (EHP) can be exchanged to an Electro Hydraulic Energy Converter (EHEC). The EHEC has the possibility to provide hydraulic power to the system, but also convert hydraulic power into electric power. The control for such a unit can be implemented in different ways. A literature study was performed to decide a suitable architecture for use in a fighter aircraft application. A simulation model representing the resulting architecture was created. The simulation model was successful in describing the basic behaviour of the hydraulic system, but lacks a realistic representation of hydraulic consumers.  Different control strategies were created and tested on the simulation model with several test scenarios based on real flight data from tests performed on the aircraft. The control strategies were compared and suitable candidates were presented based on their relative performance and compared with the current hydraulic system behaviour. An architecture consisting of a variable displacement pump with over-center capabilities combined with a permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) was decided to be used. A PI-controller with a feedforward on consumer flow was the best performing controller for use in emergency operation of the EHEC. For the case when regenerating electrical power a PI-controller with load pressure feedback is desired initially during start up. When reaching steady state a PI-controller without load pressure feedback is then advantageous.
