Preferences for Emotional Dependence and Togetherness in Romantic Relationships: The Impact of Cohort, Race, Gender, and Gender Ideology

Rowell, Kacie Lynn 16 January 2012 (has links)
This study investigates variation in preferences for mutual emotional dependence and togetherness in heterosexual romantic relationships among adults in the United States specifically considering the impact of race, gender, gender ideology, and cohort on preferences. A social structure and personality framework and concepts from exchange theory are used to interpret and predict relationship preference patterns found using binary hierarchical logistic regression analysis of data from the 1996 General Social Survey's (GSS) gender and emotions modules. Gender, gender ideology, cohort, and specific sociodemographic variables, such as education and marital status were found to impact preferences for mutual emotional dependence, however, no racially distinct patterns were found. The variables in the models explain less of the differences in preferences for togetherness than emotional dependence. However, education had a curvilinear relationship with preferences for togetherness, as people with the lowest and the highest educations were least likely to prefer togetherness. / Master of Science

Cespedes Cordova, Dolibeth Maria January 2023 (has links)
Emotional dependency is a highly studied problem today; This is defined as the extreme need that an adolescent feels for their affective partner, throughout different relationships. It affects various areas, such as cognition, emotionality and behavior. On the other hand, self-efficacy is the perception or belief of oneself when facing a conflict or a certain situation, this influences the adolescent's cognition. With what has been described above, it can be seen that, possibly, people with high self-efficacy hardly develop emotional dependence. It is for this reason that this research has the general objective of determining the relationship between emotional dependence and self-efficacy in adolescents from an institution in Chiclayo, 2022. This study has a non-experimental design, of a correlational-descriptive type. The sample consisted of 150 5th year high school students, male and their ages range from 15 to 17 years. Two scales were applied, the first is the Emotional Dependency Scale (ACCA) and the General Self-Efficacy Scale (EAG), which are standardized and validated in the Peruvian context. Finally, it was found that Emotional Dependency and Self-Efficacy have a moderately significant and inverse correlation; which means that the higher the Emotional Dependency indices, the lower the Self-efficacy and viceversa.

Dependencia emocional y esquemas maladaptativos tempranos en estudiantes de un instituto superior / Emotional dependence and early maladaptive schema in students in a public institute

Carrasco Ruiz de Castilla, Malena Raquel 19 March 2021 (has links)
The objective of the investigation is to determine the relation between the emotional dependence and the early maladaptive schema, in young students at a public institute in Lima. An intentional sampling was used. The sample consisted of 176 students male and female between 17 and 29 years old. In order to assess the research variables, the Escala Breve de Dependencia Emocional (EBDE) made in Lima-Peru by Ventura (2018) was used for Emotional Dependence; and the Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ-L2) adapted in Colombia by Londoño et al. (2012) was used for early maldaptative schema. Results show that schema and emotional dependence present a positive correlation; finding that the abandonment scheme have a big relation with emotional dependence and with two of its dimensions, while schema of social isolation and emotional inhibition presents a low relation. The specific objective is comparing the responses obtained in the EBDE according gender, the result shows that there is no practical significance between the differences, however, men score higher in fear of abandonment and low autonomy. The implications of the results are analyzed in discussion. / Tesis
