A discussão procurou associar a chegada da energia elétrica em 2005, como elemento da modernidade que resultou em alterações no modo de vida tradicional. Não se pretendeu fazer um estudo com generalizações infundadas, acerca da relação energia elétrica/mudanças sociais, mas estabelecer uma análise sociológica capaz de fomentar explicações plausíveis desse processo. Objetivou-se fazer uma revisão da literatura que trata do conceito de mudança social, para que fossem verificadas as abordagens que tratam do tema. Além disso, retratar o município de Bujaru dentro do contexto do Programa “Luz Para Todos”, do Governo federal, bem como, verificar através de pesquisa de campo, as percepções dos moradores (as) de São Sebastião sobre a chegada da energia elétrica, seus usos, as relações estabelecidas, as mudanças no cotidiano, angústias e alegrias. Os resultados que a pesquisa possibilitou tanto na parte da abordagem teórica, quanto na conjunção desta com os dados empíricos, demonstraram que a energia elétrica foi tida, em geral, como algo importante que chegou para modificar a vida das pessoas, no sentido de incluir novas rotinas, novos hábitos alimentares, ações produtivas e comportamentos. No entanto, o incremento energético está sendo insuficiente para atender as demandas por saúde, educação, geração de renda e emprego no local. / This thesis conducted a study on the social changes occurring in the village of San Sebastian, in the District of Guajará-Açú belonging to the municipality of Bujaru, State of Pará. The thread tried to associate the arrival of electricity as part of modernity that leads to changes in the traditional way of life. Is not intended to do a study with unfounded generalizations about the relative power / social change, as the central focus tried to establish a sociological analysis which promote plausible explanation of this process. The objective is to review the literature dealing with the concept of social change, to be verified approaches that address the issue. In addition, sought to portray the city of Bujaru within the context of the "Light for All", the federal government, and verify through field research, the perceptions of residents (the) of St. Sebastian on the arrival of electricity, its uses, the relationship established, changes in daily life, worries, joys and points to be worked. The results enabled the research both in the theoretical approach, in conjunction with empirical data were satisfactory and important. The power has been taken in general as something that was important to change people's lives, but you need an evaluation of policy and how it was implemented on site, namely the increase energy arrives, but this is not enough so that the dimensions of health, education, incomegeneration activities and employment, gain practical dimensions.
