IMPACT OF SUPER USER SUPPORT ON USER PERCEPTIONS AND SATISFACTION WITH INTEGRATIVE TECHNOLOGIES: A SOCIAL PRESENCE PERSPECTIVE

Gavrilidou, Galini January 2023 (has links)
Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) are large systems that enable the integration of business processes and allow seamless business process data flow throughout the organization. An EIS implementation is considered a failure if it is being cancelled; if it is removed early with relevant financial and organizational losses; or if the implementation resulted in a system being underutilized due to dissatisfaction, overspend or poor requirements gathering. Despite excessive spending over the years on digital transformation projects of such systems, failure rates have been excessively high. This research explores Super User effectiveness as an integral part of digital transformation processes. Super Users are regular but highly motivated employees who receive additional training in the use of a new or upgraded computer system to be introduced in the workplace, so that they can provide first-line technical support and training to their local colleagues. Super Users are frequently engaged in guiding and supporting users throughout and after EIS implementations or system upgrades. User satisfaction with the training process and Super User support effectiveness tends to contribute to more successful system transition and EIS implementation success. However, the role of Super Users in EIS implementations as a first line of education and support for EIS users has been substantially understudied as a potential way of reducing these failure rates. Although several studies have explored desired Super User characteristics in EIS systems implementation and successful organizational digital transformation processes, there has been a lack of attention to user perceptions of integrative systems as a contributing factor to better system utilization and implementation. This research explores Super User effectiveness as an integral part of digital transformation processes. A Theoretical Model was developed that draws from accepted theories of collaborative technology, technology adoption, and expectation confirmation. A survey was used to gather responses of 321 end users about their perceptions of Super User support and effectiveness, derived from their experience in several organizations that had undergone digital transformation. The study data were analyzed quantitatively, and the model validated through a structured equation model that was developed, based on relevant published models. A further explanatory study was conducted through thematic analysis of written participant responses. Our study found that Super User ability to emphasize the collaborative features of integrative systems by augmenting user perceptions of EIS as a social presence medium can contribute to higher levels of user performance and satisfaction. Immediacy of integrative systems as well as Individual user characteristics were found to play a positive role in user performance and satisfaction improvement. Situational characteristics of resource-facilitating conditions was also found to contribute positively to user performance and satisfaction. This study contributes to existing research on integrative systems characteristics and Super User effectiveness. It emphasizes collaborative components of integrative systems and discusses additional tools and expanded capabilities for systems utilization and user learning. It also expands on our understanding of Super User effectiveness through an exploration of user perceptions of integrative systems as a social presence medium and effective collaboration tool. Practitioners can thereby emphasize to users the resulting augmented capabilities that can contribute to effectiveness of the Super User training and development process. Practitioners should therefore urge organizations to focus on Super User selection and development as effective organizational resources that facilitate user support through organizational changes associated with EIS implementations, thereby contributing to increases in EIS implementation success rates. / Dissertation / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) / This research examines the role of Super Users in Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) implementation as a means to reduce high failure rates in digital transformation projects. Super Users, motivated employees trained to provide technical support and training for colleagues during EIS transitions, play a crucial but underexplored role. The findings highlight the importance of Super Users in emphasizing collaborative aspects of EIS, contributing to improved user performance and satisfaction. This research underscores the significance of Super User selection and development in enhancing EIS implementation success rates.

Customizace ERP systému v modelu MBI / Customization of ERP system in MBI model

Půta, Tomáš January 2016 (has links)
This thesis is about changes which are define by company: customization. The main goal of this work is to identify the main phases of this process and put it into the reference model MBI. In the first chapter the theoretical apparat of the process of customization is defined as well as the business impact of this process. The second chapter focuses on the aforementioned extension of the MBI model. This extension is realized by four tasks, which clearly define the process of customization. These tasks are linked with scenarios which define the problems of this process. This work also includes three new factors and a document of the MBI model.

Enterprise system implementation projects : a study of the impact of contextual factors on critical success factors

Van Scoter, Diane J. 24 October 2011 (has links)
Critical success factors (CSFs) are those things that must be done correctly for a project to be successful; however, CSFs are not sufficient by themselves to guarantee success. CSFs, as identified in the literature, vary from study to study. In addition, previous studies have not typically included contextual details for the projects studied. As a result, it is difficult to know how the particulars of a project impact (or not) CSFs. Researchers have suggested that CSFs can be affected by contextual details. Knowledge about the effect of contextual factors on CSFs would allow organizational leaders and project managers to more effectively use resources to achieve project success. Enterprise system implementation projects have exhibited high failure rates. Both Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) system implementations have proven to be challenging for organizations. For enterprise system implementation projects, a variety of contextual factors may be important. Examples of contextual factors include the number of software modules implemented, the number of sites undergoing implementation, the geographic dispersion of the sites, the number of people in the organization, and the percentage of personnel in the organization whose daily tasks are disrupted by the new enterprise system. This research was designed to shed light on the role of contextual factors on CSFs for enterprise system implementation projects. A survey was created to evaluate the effects of contextual factors on CSF ratings. The survey included questions related to 17 CSFs, 14 of the CSFs included in the study have been well-cited in the project management literature. Three additional CSFs were also included in the study to capture important elements of change management, which more recent studies have shown to be relevant to enterprise system implementations. The survey included questions related to eight contextual variables for ERP projects and 11 contextual variables for EHR system projects. The research focused on small to medium-size organizations, which have been less studied than larger organizations. The target respondents for the survey were enterprise system (ERP or EHR) project managers from software companies or consulting firms and government project managers whose implementation projects were within six months of completion. Data were collected on 17 ERP projects and 26 EHR system implementation projects in 43 different organizations. The survey data and subsequent analyses provided evidence that EHR system implementation projects are impacted by contextual factors. The results for the ERP implementations are not conclusive. The results suggest that contextual factors should be taken into consideration when determining how best to manage enterprise system implementations. In addition, the results of this research did not support previous research findings, which indicated that similar CSFs exist for ERP and EHR system projects. CSFs were found to vary substantially in a number of key areas, especially with respect to training. The User Training and Support CSF for the ERP projects included in this study was rated less important than prior research results suggest (Finney & Corbett, 2007). One of two CSFs included in the survey to capture change management requirements, Early Adopter/Super-user, was found to be an important CSF for the ERP projects included in this study. The EHR system projects were found to be affected by contextual factors, with nine different instances of significant relationships identified between individual CSFs and one or more contextual factor. Eight of the 17 CSFs for the EHR system implementation projects in this study were affected by contextual factors. Contextual factors impacted the ERP and EHR system implementations quite differently, suggesting that more research is needed to better understand the phenomenon leading to these differences. The findings from this research can be used by organizational leaders and project managers to more effectively achieve project success. These results provide project managers and organizational leaders in small and medium-size organizations with a much deeper and relevant understanding of the factors that are most important to manage in successfully implementing either ERP or EHR system projects. As this study focused on small and medium-size organizations and both ERP and EHR system implementation projects, the findings are relevant across a wide range of organizations. As smaller organizations have not typically been the focus of CSF research, this study makes an important contribution to the understanding of CSFs for both ERP and EHR system implementation projects. More generally, this research also expands the broader body of knowledge on the identification of CSFs, as this study has provided empirical evidence for the important role played by contextual factors. Every project is carried out within a broader organizational setting. This broader organizational setting appears, based on the results of this study, to have a strong effect on the importance of CSFs for each specific project and as such, may explain some of the seemingly contradictory findings related to CSFs in the existing literature. While further research is needed to understand the means by which contextual factors impact CSFs, this study has provided a significant contribution in validating the relationship between contextual factors and CSFs for a broad range of enterprise system projects in a wide range of industries. / Graduation date: 2012

Vývoj a význam Business Intelligence v období ekonomické krize / Evolution and value ob Business Intelligence in the period of economic crisis

Prchlík, Tomáš January 2010 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to create a comprehensive overview of how the economic crisis influenced the business intelligence market. The introduction is dedicated to the general principles of the business intelligence technologies. It is followed by analysis and identification of the commercial sector's problems associated with the recent economic decline as well as shortcomings that the corporate executives commit in the times of economic growth, and a proposal of solutions to these problems using Business Intelligence applications. The next part of the work is focused on the global analysis of benefits of the solutions and their future development. The final part of the thesis serves as an argument to highlight the importance of BI and is demonstrated on several examples of successful BI implementations in various businesses operating in different sectors. The thesis aims not only to analyze and document the development and changes in the understanding of Business Intelligence during the economic crisis but it should also motivate potential readers from among the management to consider whether they should also support the acquisition of BI in their businesses. This document should prove that if they invest in Business Intelligence in times of crisis then they might not need to implement unpopular solutions to their problems. The relevance of this subject is only underscored by the fact that unless the development of the world economy improves its current course, we might find ourselves at the beginning of another, perhaps even more significant crisis. The appendix summarizes the BI applications' inputs, different processing and information analysis methods, and the possibility of using their outputs to improve the operation of the enterprise.

Systèmes d'information sociaux / Social Information Systems

Quast, Marc 24 October 2012 (has links)
Present enterprise information systems are centered on heavy corporate applications, which cannot and indeed do not provide the agility required to survive in todays' competitive business landscape. Actors (business units, individuals, teams and communities) must introduce their own applications to work around these limitations, resulting in a fragmented, inconsistent and ungovernable information system. This thesis proposes an alternative enterprise architecture paradigm based upon a finer-grained decomposition of information systems and a different distribution of responsibilities. It empowers all actors to contribute fragments to the information system, private or shared with other actors, which can then be composed to form profile-specific applications. Consumer-space social mechanisms are proposed to manage the potentially huge resulting numbers of fragments emerging from the employee community. The aim of social information systems is both to improve the overall consistency and governability of the enterprise information system and to leverage the collective intelligence and energy of the corporation towards maximum business agility.
