Řebíková, Barbora January 2018 (has links)
Mgr. Barbora Řebíková, Katedra estetiky, FF UK, Praha Art and Knowledge. Research of Relationship between Art and Knowledge and its Contribution to Theory of Contemporary Visual Art Abstract: The dissertation deals with the relationship between art and knowledge and examines which contribution this thematic might have to the theory of contemporary visual art. The choice of the theme is based on the sensitivity to the current events in the world of art, where this relationship is the main object of interest. This work presents and illustrates the turnovers in the contemporary art world and how the role of the audience is emphasized. It deals with the form of contemporary art that has led to these turnovers and represents factors that have influenced this form. In the work there are presented mainly the factors influencing the form of contemporary art, which influenced the demands on the audience. Attention is then devoted to the philosophical origins of the studied relationship and in the essay there are presented the basics of its exploration at Plato and Aristotle. The main theoretical centre of the studied relationship, however, is aesthetic cognitivism, which is thoroughly presented in the work. However, within this theory, which explicitly focuses on the relationship of art and cognition, is not found...

Estetika a politika: pojetí Jacquese Rancièra / Aesthetics and Politics: Jacques Rancière's approach

Krochmalný, Ondřej January 2016 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce Proposed thesis focuses on the writings of french theoretician Jacques Rancière. Particular emphasis is put on a manner, in which the spheres of aesthetics and politics appear and intervine in Rancière's works. The consequence of forementioned delimitation of the subject of my interest is that the thesis doesn't fully embody Rancière's thought. Mainly because of the restricted space, i omitted Rancière's historiographical works and also texts that deal with the narrowly defined questions of literature and film. Despite of those limitations, my goal is to provide a monographical introduction to Rancière's thought. This monograph, on the one hand, doesn't claim the complete coverage of Rancière's works, but it aims, on the other hand, to provide the overall insight into the essential questions that shaped (and still shape) Rancière's thought.

Archeologie okouzlení novými technologiemi ve vědeckých diskurzech / Archeology of enchantment by new technologies in science discourses

Veselská, Jindra January 2017 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce The theses focuses on enchantment by new information technologies which occurred in humanities and social science discourses at the turn of twentieth and twenty-first century. Using archaelogical method of Michel Foucault and its recent inspirations historical epistemology and ontology it investigates the conditions which built the term enchantment in aesthetics. Based on examinig Max Weber's thesis about the disenchantment of the world the work finds that the concept of enchantment implies epistemological and ontological contradictions. These tensions can be traced also in contemporary interpretations that use the concept of enchantment in connection with new information technologies. In conclusion, the theses consideres the possibility of using the concpet of sublime discourses for the description and explanation of the phenomenon, which do not imply the contradictions present in the notion of enchantment.

Bibliographic Record ZÁHORA, JAKUB. Mundane Self-Legitimizations of Power: Distribution of the Sensible in the Israeli Settlements in the West Bank. Prague, 2017. 277 p. Doctoral dissertation (Ph.D.) Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Political Studies. Thesis supervisor: PhDr. Ondřej Ditrych, MPhil., Ph.D. Abstract: In this doctoral thesis I am looking into mechanisms, practices and political technologies that work to depoliticize contested and potentially disturbing realities. To make sense of these processes, I am utilizing the theoretical and conceptual apparatus derived from Foucault's and Rancière's respective works. Following Rancière, I conceptualize depolitization as a "distribution of the sensible", a particular ordering of what is presented to the senses and thus made intelligible, "obvious" and "natural". Understanding such arrangements in terms of a governmental programme, I focus mostly on material and visual elements of the dispositif that promotes this depoliticizing rationality. Empirically, I am investigating the case of the Israeli so-called non-ideological settlements in the West Bank. Despite some popular misconceptions, these communities attract Israelis by offering cheap public services and housing rather than for their religious-nationalistic...

Umění nad realitou. Estetika Oscara Wilda a její aktuální souvislosti / Art above reality. The Aesthetics of Oscar Wilde and Its Contemporary Context

Souček, Dalibor January 2011 (has links)
The main object of my dissertation, focused on aesthetics of Oscar Wilde, includes: transparent recapitulation of thoughts presented in Wilde's theoretically principal texts and further interpretation of Wilde's aesthetics in its complexity and up-to-dateness as well. The key importance for the Wilde's aesthetics, for the main texts capturing his aesthetical thinking, is partly superiority of art over reality, partly the program "life as art". Let's encapsulate individual texts from this perspective: In The Decay of Lying the art - a beautiful lie serves as a paradigm for life and nature. In the essay The Critic as Artist the criticism-art is an example of how people should live: either to escape to beauty, to imagination or to escape to a dissociated, aestheticized view of life. This aesthetically-ethical choice is one of the substantial aspects in the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray: art as an example of how to manage to live a hedonic and sensual live as much as possible - in contrast to a certain extent - how to live a "dissociated, spectatorial life". In The Soul of Man Under Socialism the art has its revolutionary-political dimension: it represents a model of a real individualism; maximum self- development. Finally, in De Profundis Wilde includes in his "artistic life", which is a matter of...

There are mentioned not only qualities of imaging of objects but also its anchoring in the media environment. The results of the analysis are connected with processes of globalization. The principles of Ulrich Beck are applied to visual adverts of Absolut vodka. The main question is if and how the globalization influences the adverts and their visual form. Estetiese verwantskappe en dekonstruksie van juweliersware : ‘n praktyk-gebaseerde ondersoek

Van der Merwe, Augusta Stephanie 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA (VA))--Stellenbosch University, 2012. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis investigates the manner in which the function of jewellery (in both the wearing and owning of it) is complementary to the value, meaning and definition of jewellery. The function of jewellery can be regarded as two-fold, consisting of both a physical and social function. The physical function of a jewellery piece entails the way in which it is worn and the manner in which the piece is utilised. The social function of jewellery is not only the status or identity that the jewellery represents, but also how jewellery can symbolise and stimulate relationships. An investigation of the physical function of jewellery is undertaken by deconstructing archetypical jewellery pieces. This illustrates what characteristics define an object as a jewellery piece and show how some archetypical jewellery pieces may appear to be seemingly universal, timeless and natural. The social function of jewellery is investigated by considering the relational aesthetics of jewellery and thus showing how jewellery can testify and give rise to relationships. This study also sheds light on the way in which contemporary jewellery can question value systems. The research includes the designing, making and discussing of contemporary jewellery. The primary research for the thesis is formed by a discussion of my art pieces and is supported by theoretical research. In the conclusion of this study it is clear that jewellery can assume multiple definitions and meanings. These definitions and meanings are not only determined by the designer and maker of the jewellery piece, but also by the wearer/ owner and the viewer as well as the context within which the jewellery piece is worn or displayed.
