A Study on Channel Estimation of OFDM Systems without Guard IntervalWu, Fang-Mao 27 January 2008 (has links)
¡@¡@In recent year, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing ¡]OFDM¡^ technology has been widely used in high-speed communication systems. One primary reason for the popularity of OFDM is its ability to provide good performance in multi-path channels than the other systems through the use of Guard interval(GI). By using the Guard interval, it can convert these inter-symbol interference (ISI) channels into ISI-free channels. But Guard interval without any information will caused inter-channel interference. In order to solve this problem, a guard interval using cyclic prefix (CP) is inserted to avoid inter-symbol interference from the adjacent symbols and inter-channel interference from other sub-channels. However, using long cyclic prefix will decrease the transmission rate, reduce the spectral efficiency, and increase the signal-to-noise power ratio¡]SNR¡^loss. If we choose a shorter one, the channel length may be longer than the cyclic prefix. The interference caused by insufficient cyclic prefix can seriously degrade the performance of OFDM systems. In order to solve this problem, a time domain equalizer¡]TEQ¡^is usually used in the receiver to shorten the channel length of OFDM transmission system, and therefore minimize the ISI and ICI. However, because of its high complexity, the optimum design of TEQ is hard to realize.
¡@¡@So we use an iterative channel estimation technique between time domain and frequency domain to mitigate the ISI and ICI which is caused by insufficient cyclic prefix. The iterative technique can remove ISI and hold the circular convolution property. By utilizing the iterative technique we can improve the channel estimation performance as the OFDM symbol used sufficient cyclic prefix.
¡@¡@In the computer simulations, we consider the worst case that the OFDM symbol is transmitted without guard interval. The results show that our proposed method can effectively suppress residual ISI. The comparison between our proposed method including both proposed channel estimation¡]PCE¡^and proposed data demodulation¡]PDD¡^, decision feedback channel estimation¡]DFCE¡^, avoid ISI preamble channel estimation¡]AISIP¡^, and residual ISI cancellation¡]RISIC¡^algorithm are made in this thesis. Finally, the performance improvement of the proposed algorithm under several channel conditions is considered and compared with other algorithms.

Design and Implementation of Power Management Policy on 3D Graphics System-On-ChipHsu, Hua-Shan 25 August 2008 (has links)
The 3D applications, until recently restricted to the desktops and workstations, are expanding into the mobile platforms, such as cellular phones and PDAs. Similar to the desktop, the consumers will expect high-quality 3D experience, and this is a big challenge. Handheld devices have slower processors that are less capable of computing large workloads, and the batteries have limited lifetimes, so for large and complex workload, we need an excellent power management policy for saving power. Besides, although mobile platforms have lower resolution than desktop, each pixel must still be rendered since the screen is closed to the observer¡¦s eye, or we will see some imperfections.
For the reasons above, we make a point of performance optimization and power saving, and these rely on accuracy and fast workload estimation. We refer to some workload estimation methods which researchers have mentioned before, such as UW1, UW5, PID[8], Frame Structure[9], Signature Table[1], and hybrid power management policy[10].UW1 and UW5 both use the previous workload as the estimation workload. PID uses the feedback loop to correct the estimation workload. Frame Structure classifies frames into several structures, and sums the workload of each structure up as the estimation workload. Signature Table stores some 3D parameters in the table, and when a new frame comes in, the 3D parameters of this frame will compare with the table, if match, we use the workload in the table as the estimation workload. Our method is a hybrid policy of UW1 and UW5, and we will decide to use UW1 or UW5 when a new frame comes in. Finally we will compare the performance of each power management policy.

The sources of construction business for local firms have been shifted gradually to oversea market over years due to domestic economic recession. Nevertheless, the revenue seems standstill against to the growing contract amounts since the cost has been encroached on the present cost estimation procedure which based on personal instincts, experiences and simple formula that out of ability to identify the future uncertainties and frame the flexible management in advance under drastic business environment.
To enhance the managerial insight and flexibility of evaluation process for the future uncertainties, we proposed and constructed a real optional model of risk cost upon traditional cost evaluation process. As a result of experiment, the sources of uncertainties and the flexibilities for management could be observed and directed clearly to against the risk without subjective or instinctive recognization anymore.
Seveal occasions of application of real option value have been suggested in this study several important key points should be emphasized before using it: neither profit/loss nor price for accounting can be promised with the real option value; rather an expectable goal for managers to achieve. Appropriate flexible activities should be studied and approached before making decisions to acquire real option value.
Maximized overall real option value could be a powerful competition tool for any company that tries to adopt real option approach to profit estimation if the interaction and synergy of real option among individual projects could be integrated effectively. Under the support of authority and interorganization commitment, the real option process should be learned and modified evolutionary according to dynamic business environment then becomes a strategic advantage.

Circuit Design of DS Spread Spectrum ReceiverKuo, Che-Yu 09 September 2009 (has links)
Traditionally in CDMA system, selective rake receiver is the popular method of
detection. When used in DS-UWB system, the complex in door environment will
increase the channel paths. As the channel paths increase, the more fingers which are
part of Rake receiver will increase. It will be difficult for hardware implement when
consider the operation of channel estimation and Rake receiver. And it is unfavorable
for hardware design.
In this thesis, we will use partial Rake receiver to replace selective Rake receiver.
Channel estimation is implemented by template the receiver signals within 2 bit time
window length. The performance is acceptable and the hardware complexity is
reduced. When implement the channel estimation, we combine some blocks of
acquisition and channel estimation for reducing hardware complexity.

On Reconfigurable MEMS Antennas and Coupling Matrix EstimationMowlér, Marc January 2006 (has links)

In this thesis, two different topics are treated related to wireless communication. Part I presents three different reconfigurable MEMS integrated antennas for MIMO applications. Simulation and measurement results are presented along with brief discussions on the topic of antenna selection with reconfigurable antenna elements. Part II presents an estimator for the coupling matrix of an antenna array with two slightly different approaches. CRB is derived and discussed in terms of parameter cost.
