In the light of this, our objective was to identify, from national and international literature, the state of the question on the insertion and performance of speech therapy in FHS. For this purpose, we conducted a survey in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), for articles published between 1993 and 2013, being in free access periodicals or not. Also, we performed a regional survey on scientific production by speech therapists who worked in FHS in the city of Sobral, Ceará. The first investigation occurred, in loco, in the library at the Family Health Training School ‘Visconde de Sabóia’ and the second investigation was conducted by means of bibliographic survey of the SANARE journal, in the 1999-2013 period, in the online periodicals, with all the editions of the journal being analyzed, totaling 22 editions. From the study, it was possible to see that the deficiency in the training of the speech therapist for work in FHS is one of the main limiting factors for the insertion and performance of these professionals in this scenario; it was evident that few publications address the theme; the studies identified many challenges for the category of speech therapy in the consolidation of their work in FHS. Nevertheless, it was possible to acknowledge that the work of speech therapy, together with the community, promoted quality care which provided more quality of life and health for these people. / A inserção da fonoaudiologia na Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF) é algo novo e e estudos sobre este tema são escassos. À luz disto, o nosso objetivo foi de identificar, a partir da literatura nacional e internacional, o estado da questão sobre a atuação e inserção da fonoaudiologia na ESF. Para isso, foi realizada uma pesquisa na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), para artigos publicados entre 1993 e 2013, estando em periódicos de acesso livre ou não. Além disso, foi realizado um levantamento sobre a produção científica regional por fonoaudiólogos que trabalhavam na ESF, na cidade de Sobral, Ceará. Ocorreu a primeira investigação, in loco, na biblioteca da Escola de Formação em Saúde da Família 'Visconde de Sabóia' e a segunda investigação foi conduzida por meio de levantamento bibliográfico da revista Sanare, no período 1999-2013, nos periódicos on-line, todas as edições da revista que foram analisadas, totalizando 22 edições. A partir do estudo, foi possível detectar que a deficiência na formação do fonoaudiólogo para o trabalho na ESF é um dos principais fatores limitantes para a inserção e atuação desses profissionais neste cenário; Também ficou evidente a falta de publicações científicas sobre o tema; São muitos desafios para a categoria de fonoaudiologia consolidar a sua atuação na Estratégia de saúde da Família, mas, apesar das fragilidades, o seu fazer no território promove um cuidado que propricia mais qualidade de vida e saúde a essas pessoas.
