Análise do gênero portuário NOR sob a ótica da linguística sistêmico-funcional / Analysis of the cargo shipping genre NOR from the perspective of systemic functional linguisticsAlessandra Cristina Bittencourt Alcântara 06 May 2013 (has links)
The teaching of English as a foreign language in a technical school is designed to meet students' and the courses needs. Acting as a teacher of English for Specific Purposes at CEFET Itaguaí, I came across a new course in Rio de Janeiro state, the Technical Course of Cargo shipping. Considering this, the present study aims to investigate how the cargo shipping document, NOR, or Notice of Readiness, which is a crucial cargo shipping operation and, consequently, an important material for the course at CEFET, is structured in stages to transmit meanings. Objectively, this paper answers the following research questions: "what is the situation in which the NOR is produced? " and "what are the main features of the language that mediates social activity in this situation?". To answer these questions the theoretical assumptions of Systemic functional linguistics (SFL) (HALLIDAY, 1985, HALLIDAY; HASAN, 1989) were drawn upon: SFL sees function and semantics as the basis of language and of communicative activity, and thus considers language to be influenced by social context. The concept of gender adopted comes from the same functionalist perspective: genre is here seen as an activity driven by goals and purposes, held in stages and in which speakers are engaged as members of a particular culture (MARTIN, 1992). The notion of a contextual configuration (CC) for a genre is also adopted, and it refers to the variables located in the situational context (field, tenor and mode) that enable one to realize the obligatory and optional elements that make up a genres structure potential (GSP), as well as investigate their structural features, lexical, grammatical and semantic (HASAN, 1989). The corpus for this study consists of ten exemplars of the document NOR, collected in two companies with cargo shipping terminals in the region of Costa Verde in Rio de Janeiro. In order to examine these documents, a qualitative research was carried out to identify their obligatory and optional stages on the basis of the identification of lexico-grammatical signals in the text, thus mapping their functions, as Hasan (1989) proposed. The results of the analysis of the ten documents suggest that there are four obligatory stages in these texts: the NOR document has four stages that fulfill certain important functions in the social activity in which it operates. These stages occurred in all samples studied and are therefore crucial to characterizing the genre. This research contributes to the pedagogy in the area of cargo shipping negotiations as it establishes a suggested model to facilitate the reading and writing of the document NOR, which might lead to professionals in the field becoming more competent participants in the social activity under discussion. Apart from its contribution to the area of cargo shipping , this research may help in the analysis of other genres, in which researchers adopt a model that considers the social environment in which the text is produced

Previous issue date: 2010-12-20 / How to recognize, characterize and differentiate the genders multimodal comic strip, cartoon, cartoons and caricature? How relationships are established genres such genre-support? Based on the theoretical and methodological studies of gender linked to Systemic-Functional Linguistics – SFL – (HALLIDAY; HASAN, 1989) and comics (RAMOS, 2009; MCCLOUD, 1995; EISNER, 1999), we tried to reflect these issues in order to: (1) describe the Generic Structure Potential (GSP) genres strip comics, cartoon, cartoon and caricature; (2) characterize the support of the genres in focus from the perspective of SFL, and (3) investigate the relationship between gender-holder in the genres mentioned above. In order to fulfill these research objectives, we, through qualitative research, from the analysis of texts and images, study the book and its supporters following genres: (a) Aline (I, II, III), by Adão Iturrusgarai ( 2007, 2009a, 2009b), with the comics strips, (b) So Crawls Humanity, by Allan Sieber (2006), with the cartoons, (c) Risk Factors, by Júlio Erthal (1998), with the cartoons, and (d) Caricatures and caricatured, by Mario Mendez, with the cartoons. From our research, we conclude that it is difficult to differentiate the genders comics strip, cartoon, cartoons and caricatures, because they present the same variable mode (written/ multimodal) and tenor (author versus reader) of registers, where as the variable field of register is respectful, which thus elects stages of completion for each specific genre, what sets them apart. As for the gender-support ratio, we can say that the support – as an organization of language material, entered in register – elects elements of realization that qualify as material support required in a given culture and individually with their peers, these elements we call grafic elements that take place according to the relationship author versus editor (a).

O SISTEMA DE GÊNEROS DA SELEÇÃO DE CANDIDATOS A EMPREGO NO CONTEXTO EMPRESARIAL / THE SYSTEM OF GENRES FOR JOB APPLICATION IN A PROFESSIONAL CONTEXTConto, Janete Maria de 03 March 2008 (has links)
Studies in Genre Analysis have been developed with the aim of exploring the
typification of genres of the work environment and interpreting their funtions
according to the discursive communities in which they operate. Some examples are
studies carried out by Bazerman (2005) and Devitt (1991) on documents from
professional contexts. In that regard, Bazerman (2005) discusses notions such as
genre, genre sets, genre systems and activity systems. Language practices in
professional contexts have also been the object of investigations among Brazilian
research teams, for instance LAEL at PUC/SP and PUC/RJ, in efforts to understand
how the participants of a communicative event interact and how their lexicogrammatical
choices construe meaning. In that sense, the present study approaches
the system of genres adopted in the selective process for hiring a salesperson,
conducted by a cooperative company in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. This system
of genres comprises several texts: Want Ad, Presentation Letter, Curriculum Vitae
and Interview. The objective of this study is to investigate the system of genres for
job application from the perspective of language as social practice with a focus on
practices circumsbribed to the work sphere. This way, the struture of the texts within
this system of genres is analyzed using the framework of Systemic-Functional
Linguistics (Halliday, 1994; 2004 and Halliday & Hasan, 1989). The texts are
analyzed in their organizational patterns and clauses are classified considering the
type of processes, according to the System of Transitivity. Besides, the
communicative purposes as welll as the characterization of the participants in the
activities system are identified. Contrary to initial expectations, the interview was
pointed out in the results as the most relevant genre in evaluating the applicants.
Overall, the results offer an understanding of the interaction as characterized by
specific aims in a particular professional sphere and can be valid for language
educators, mainly those who work with Portuguese as mother tongue for instrumental
purposes with a focus on professional genres.
A linguagem
Assim, o tema do
interior do Rio Grande do Sul. Esse sistema de gêneros acomoda vários textos:
Anúncio de Emprego, Carta de Apresentação, Curriculum Vitae e Entrevista
Pessoal.
Sistêmico-Funcional (Halliday, 1994; 2004 e Halliday e Hasan, 1989).
Enfim, a discussão aponta à
