Previous issue date: 2014-01-20 / The present study aimed to understand how the suffering resulting from violence in intimate-affective relationships between men and women is revealed, at a police station dedicated to crimes against women. In this work, we tried to think of violence as related to a malaise in contemporary times, glimpsed by the advent of modern technology and its implications for Dasein, in its ways of thinking and being in the world. Therefore, we developed a qualitative study based on Heideggerian existential phenomenological perspective. As strategies for action, there were three months of participant observation in the Delegacia Especializada em Atendimento à Mulher (Specialized Precinct to Assistance of Women - DEAM) in Recife - PE, as well as narratives of ethnographic interviews with 05 employees : 03 women and 02 men. The content of logbooks of the researcher, produced during the observations, as well as the narratives of employees, were understood in the light of Critelli's Analytical Sense (1996). Experiences observed in the field and brought to the narratives indicate crystallized meanings in the ways of being-with-others, which feature in daily routine of DEAM through jealousy scenes and complaints, feelings of ownership and control, attempts to restrict other person's possibility of being, rigidity in the gender binary positions. Utilitarian relationships predominate in these ways of being-with, in which the other person seems to be set up as a tool to be used to some benefit. Conceptions about violence dipped in impersonal void are revealed, still in this context, ruled by the lack of thought and by preformatted social values which sometimes naturalize violence as the only possibility of being-with-others in conflict situations. In this context, the precinct is convened to, by law, adopt punitive, repressive and protective measures, seeking to placate ignorance and dull the pain. However, it is observed that, often, the law cannot cope with such violence that is spreading, as well as shield people from suffering. We conclude that it becomes increasingly important to discuss, from a meditating thought, the intensification of violence and helplessness in contemporaneity, occasioned by the nihilistic implications of modern technology. Moreover, to the extent that the sociocultural context seems to point to a trivialization of human suffering, it is crucial to think a way to care of women and men in situations of violence, from a clinical action that does not let stereotypes captured by binary "victim versus aggressor", "guilty versus innocent", "male versus female", but encompassing the human whole, considering this historical moment of its unveiling of being.

Previous issue date: 2014-02-26 / This work has as main objective to understand the experience of treatment in spiritism and specific objectives, describing the types of treatment offered in spiritualism understand the meaning that leads people to seek this mode of treatment,
understanding the experience of treatment and its possible contributions to mental health. The research is qualitative phenomenological perspective. Obviously, there are different treatment modalities in spiritism, however the choice of the participants followed the pattern of volunteering without restricting the type of treatment undergone, gender, reason as to demand treatment or age. Participants were followed up at Spiritual Hospital Patrícia Bacelar (HEPB - Camaragibe / PE). As research instruments, the narrative from Walter Benjamin and the field diary were used to get access to treatment experience in spiritualism. The theoretical framework has been
constructed based on the theory Frankl, who understands spirituality as the human dimension, in line with results of this research. To analyze the results, we used the philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer, who reached a final narrative constructed from the dialogue between the participants, the researcher and the theoretical framework that justified the search. Our results reveal an eminent search for other
care that not only the doctor, as well as the use of religious resources as complementary to medical practice. Most of the reports demonstrated the continuity of medical treatments simultaneously spiritual treatment. In this context, the stimulus accountability of the individual for self-care while transcendence proved crucial for adherence to medical treatment as well as to overcome situations of intense suffering.

Stories of life and death: undertakers' perspectivesNel, Elsie Petronella 25 August 2009 (has links)
Like death, the defining human reality underlying our relationships and views of life's
meaning, the experiences and activities of undertakers, remains an uncommon
subject for psychological research. Existential anxiety roots a society-wide denial of
the fundamental nature of death. which necessitates the development of institutions
to take responsibility for the dying and dead. As the image and service of the
stigmatised funeral industry improves, society's experience of death should become
more meaningful. The overview of the research into these topics noted the need for
further studies.
Within a holistic, ecosystemic epistemology, this study adopted a qualitative
approach and case study method, which provided descriptions of the ecology,
contexts, and relationships characteristic .of the undertaker's vocation by focussing
on patterned expressions of views and attitudes. The aim was to gain insight into
the undertaker's experience of the many faces of death, with a genuine interest and
deep respect for their world. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

Stemmen som terapeutisk redskab i gruppeterapi : udvikling af en gruppeterapeutisk metode / The Voice as a Therapeutic tool in Group Therapy : Developing a Method within Group TherapyNielsen, Rosemarie Maiyanne Sölvi January 2015 (has links)
This Magister Thesis in Music Therapy at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm examines on a phenomenological basis how five women in a group therapy process experienced working with voice exercises as a therapeutic tool. The overall objective of the project was to develop a method to work with the voice as a therapeutic tool. In an experimental course over ten sessions of two hours duration, the women worked with various aspects of voicework, including relaxation /mindfulness before all practical exercises, breathing and technical voice exercises and various voiceimprovisation exercises. Painting and drawing were taken in as an extra dimension to the work of the psychological processes. The sessions were video recorded as documentation and afterwards the sessions were transcribed, described and analyzed. All conversations in the group therapy were based on Irving D.Yaloms existential psychology. Through a phenomenological research method and triangulation of questionnaires, -the exercises and their influence on participants' experience, among others of self-esteem, of being able to take one´s needed space - and of performance, were examinded. The results indicates 1) that relaxation /mindfulness can have a positive impact on participants' personal processes, 2) that technical voice exercises can open up several different personal processes, including processes related to social rules, self-esteem, achievement and to become more aware of ones own body and its functions in relation to the voice and breathing. The results also indicate that breathing exercises and relaxation have a mutual influence on one another and that breathing exercises can be used as a tool for the individual, concerning anxiety reduction. Improvisation exercises can help opening up to different personal processes, depending on the level of technical experience of the voice the participant possesses. Feelings of freedom in relation to voice ideals, lack of voice technique, embedded social conventions, relationship to authorities and rules, as well as the feeling of playing and experimenting, were some of the themes the participants experienced to have a focus on. The participants found that they were able to transfer these experiences to their private life conditions and here to create a change. In relation to the painting / drawing exercise, it was found that the participants experienced to immerse their challenges and processes further and that they experienced this exercise surprisingly easy, non-demanding and playful. As an unexpected result it was found, that working with a compassionate intention towards oneself in the process made the largest therapeutic difference for the participants. In general, participants experienced the group therapy as supportive and with a loving atmosphere which inspired the individual´s challenges and processes.
