Wearing Architecture

Ingvert, Erik January 2015 (has links)
Wearing Architecture is my search of the real potential in combining architecture with clothing design. In a world where our mobility is constantly increasing, this spatial investigation looks for ways to carry your personal space with you, on you. The project consists of making and analyzing 13 full-scale prototypes, to test spatiality applied on clothes. The main themes of research have been wearable structures for space and collective clothing.   The project started as a personal challenge. Two fields of great interest, architecture and clothing design, both serving as cover for the human body on different scales and with different properties. What potential lies in the combining of the two fields? Could there be more than superficially talking about clothes as “architectural”? How could one work along that border?   My method of research has been continuously making simple prototypes in full-scale, where I’ve been able to quickly test different approaches to the subject of investigation. The method has been good in immediately trying out ideas, but the process also gave insights to take with me in my future as an architect.

Spatial Analyses of Gray Fossil Site Vertebrate Remains: Implications for Depositional Setting and Site Formation Processes

Carney, David 01 August 2021 (has links)
This project uses exploratory 3D geospatial analyses to assess the taphonomy of the Gray Fossil Site (GFS). During the Pliocene, the GFS was a forested, inundated sinkhole that accumulated biological materials between 4.9-4.5 mya. This deposit contains fossils exhibiting different preservation modes: from low energy lacustrine settings to high energy colluvial deposits. All macro-paleontological materials have been mapped in situ using survey-grade instrumentation. Vertebrate skeletal material from the site is well-preserved, but the degree of skeletal articulation varies spatially within the deposit. This analysis uses geographic information systems (GIS) to analyze the distribution of mapped specimens at different spatial scales. Factors underpinning spatial association, skeletal completeness, and positioning of specimens were examined. At the scale of the individual skeleton, analyses of the Mastodon Pit explore how element completeness and orientation/inclination of the mastodon reflect post-depositional processes.

„Olympische Farben“: Ein Blatt Stoffproben zur italienischen Oper „L’Olimpiade“ (Dresden, 1756)

Schlechte, Katrin 06 September 2019 (has links)

Rapid repair of levee breaches: plug dimension parameterization

Burg, Elizabeth Cathleen 10 December 2010 (has links)
Thousands of miles of levees exist in the United States and around the world and failure of these levees as a result of breaching has the potential to cause severe flooding damage. A technology, the PLUG, has been developed to temporarily reduce the flow through a levee breach as an alternative to traditional methods. This study is focused on developing initial guidance on the parameters for sizing a PLUG using a 1:100 (model:prototype) Froude scaled model. It was found that for the PLUG to effectively reduce flow through the breach, the required ratio of the PLUG length to the breach width is greater than two (L/W > 2), and that effectiveness increases as the ratio between the PLUG diameter and water depth (D/d) increases. Effectiveness also increases when the percent fill (P) is between 65 – 75 percent. Trends in the threshold between catastrophic failure and success were also noted.

Fabric Architecture: Body In Motion

Cosovic, Daniela 01 January 2009 (has links)
Making a dress, creating an object for someone else is a simple act of giving to another person. I did not want to decide between an object to wear and one to hang on the wall, so I gave you both, and movement in between. Take a dress off of a wall. Wear it. Put it back on the wall. Repeat it, or not. There is balance in movement of an object between a person and the wall. It is this quietness of balance amongst the sound of movement that I am seeking in my work.

The effects of laundering and soiling of water resistant fabric on blood drip stains

Harter, Hanna J. 01 February 2023 (has links)
Bloodstain Pattern Analysis is a rapidly growing area of research in the forensic science field. It is not uncommon for blood to be present on surfaces such as clothing, furniture, carpet, and more, during the commission of a crime. . Research of how blood interacts with different porous surfaces, such as textiles and fabrics, is relatively unexplored in the field of forensic science. Prior to a bloodshed event in which blood may be deposited onto clothing, the fabric may have been laundered in a variety of ways. In this research, swatches of a 100% nylon, water resistant fabric were subjected to seventeen different laundering and soiling processes. The laundering products used included Tide® Liquid Laundry Detergent, Downy® Fabric Softener, Downy® Unstoppables In-Wash Scent Boosters, Bounce® Dryer Sheets, Clorox® Zero Splash Bleach Packs, and OxiClean™ Max Force Laundry Stain Remover. Soiling included wearing swatches of fabric and leaving them in direct sunlight. Whole human blood was inverted, vortexed, then transferred using a disposable transfer pipette. The sample was held 36 in./3 ft. above each sample at a 90-degree angle, using an apparatus made from a flat edge and a protractor to ensure consistency. Blood drops were deposited onto each swatch of fabric, photographed, and microscopically examined. The drip stains were measured and characteristics of the blood, fabric, and the interaction of the two were recorded. Results showed some trends, such as an increased breakdown of fabric structure when bleach was used, and an increase in wicking when treated with scent boosters. Overall, the results were varied in all comparisons.
