The previous Fiber Image Analysis System (FIAS-I) is not reliable enough to detect fibers, especially for the immature fibers. It yields a systematic bias in the maturity distribution. Furthermore, the maturity distributions are often assumed to be normal without any normality tests in many previous studies, and those distributions are commonly measured by a sole parameter, e.g., the mean maturity value. In fact, those statistical inferences on cotton maturity may not be valid when cotton maturity does not follow a normal distribution. In light of the complexity of maturity distributions, the sole-parameter approach does not appear to be reliable and rational to rank the maturity among different samples. In this thesis, modified algorithms are made in the previous Fiber Image Analysis System (FIAS-I) to improve the number and accuracy of detected cross-sections and reduce the bias on immature fiber. The normality of cotton maturity distributions are analyzed through multiple parameters and patterns of cotton maturity distributions, and the experimental results on the cross section images selected from seven cotton varieties are displayed. Finally, several normality tests are introduced, and the Box-Cox transformation is applied to the maturity distribution, which makes the comparisons among the mean maturity feasible. / text

A cidade, como questão, é a base de discussões sobre a peça teatral e o imaginário urbano que a peça evoca. Coube a esta pesquisa pautar a relação entre os personagens, o imaginário de cidade, a busca de sentido do que é viver no Oeste brasileiro, segundo a recriação de uma peça com os desdobramentos, tendo como propósito firmar um campo de reflexão das artes cênicas na cidade de Cuiabá como condição também de desenvolvimento socioeconômico e cultural. Numa abordagem interdisciplinar, a pesquisa e dissertação visam produzir reflexões e diálogos circunstanciais sobre a necessidade de por em cena a crítica da modernidade, ao reconhecer as diferenças, as singularidades e promover o acesso às informações que produz modos de existência e afirmativas ao que se entende por globalização. Reportamo-nos, principalmente, a Giorgio Agamben para pensar e ler a cidade contemporânea pela peça As fias de mamãe e ter o teatro como modalidade de crítica da cultura, na medida em que, politicamente, se expõe as ranhuras da vida local no contato com o processo civilizatório, percebendo os modos como uma imagem de cidade se produz e reproduz, enquanto experiência urbana na cidade Cuiabá nos anos 90. / The play As fias de mamãe (1998) brings to the fore pungent themes so as to broaden the debate on urban experience from the perspective of two characters who suggest, based on their quotidian stories, what it means, in a turn of the millennium city like Cuiabá, to live on the outside of market economy facing the local precariousness of public policy. The city, as subject, is the base for discussion on the play and on the urban imagines that the play evokes. This research has the purpose of grounding the relationship between characters, the city's imagine and the quest for the meaning of life in the Brazilian West, employing the re-creation of a play with developments so as to have as purpose the strengthening of the scenic arts in the city of Cuiabá as a requirement for social, economic and cultural development. In an interdisciplinary approach, this research and dissertation aim to produce analysis and dialogue about the need for staging critical thinking on modernity, by recognizing differences and singularities, and to promote access to information which produces modes of living and self affirmation in the face of globalization. We have referred, mainly, to Giorgio Agamben, for thinking and reading the contemporary city through play As fias de mamãe and for seeing the theatre as a means for cultural criticism, to the degree to which it, politically, exposes the nitty-gritty of local life in contact with the civilizational process, acknowledging the ways in which a city's image is produced and reproduced, as urban experience in Cuiabá in the 90's.

Cette recherche doctorale en histoire immédiate, s'inscrit dans une réflexion plus large sur l'étude de nouveaux conflits, la culture et l'emploi des forces armées françaises sur le terrain, en prenant l'exemple de son engagement en Afghanistan. Elle porte particulièrement sur l'emploi de l'arme du génie dont nous postulons à la grande importance de ses savoir-faire sur le terrain, en situation de contre-insurrection. / This doctoral research takes part on the study of the new conflicts, by taking the example of the French engineers in Afghanistan. We postulate for the big importance of these combat support units in situation of counterinsurgency.
