Traitement combiné de polluants atmosphériques par filtration et adsorption pour limiter leur transfert dans l'habitat urbain / Combined treatment of outdoor air pollutants by filtration and adsorption for transfer limitation in urban dwellingMorisseau, Kevin 26 October 2016 (has links)
The development of low energy buildings, which are more and more hermetic, leads to the necessity of indoor air renewal with mechanical ventilation system. However, the concentration of pollutants in urban environments increases continually, which promotes the pollutant transfer from the outdoor to the indoor air. This PhD thesis consists in the study of processes for the combined purification of the main urban outdoor air pollutants coming in individual dwellings through the ventilation systems.Out of a state of the art of the air pollutants, the ventilation systems and the treatment processes, filtration with fibrous media and adsorption were the two processes chosen to treat the urban air characterized by PM₁₀, PM₂ ₅, microbialaerosol, BTEX and NOₓ. A methodology was setup to select, through the different studied materials and with some performance criterion, the most suitable treatment solution i.e. a combined-F7 filter with glass fiber and granular activated carbon. A daily heating strategy of the combined-F7 filter at 70°C for 1h30 was proposed to partially regenerate the adsorbent in order to improve its lifetime and to limit the microbial growth on the filter, inparticular by desiccation. An experimental campaign in controlled conditions with multi-pollutant generation permitted to quantify the performances of the combined-F7 filter. The thermal treatment permitted to maintain the adsorption efficiency of the toluene at 40% and to limit the microbial proliferation. Competitions within pollutants were observed, in particular an increase of the filtration efficiency of PM₁₀ with the presence of PM₂ ₅ by promoting the cake filtration stage. Moreover the mix toluene/NO₂ leads to a decrease of the NO₂ adsorption in favor of the toluene. Finally, an experimental campaign in realistic conditions was conducted for 3 months in particular to study the performances of the thermal treatment. Concentration levels of the pollutants in the suburban area of the study were low. The thermal treatment applied to the combined-F7 filter, with the operating conditions studied and after 3month of follow-up, permitted to significantly limit the fungal growth on the filter but it did not permit to improve significantly the VOC and NOₓ adsorption.

Concentration polarization of solute at the membrane surface, because of osmotic pressure effects, is an important phenomenon that can cause substantial reductions in permeation. To understand these phenomena: we first analyze the filtration process for a pure solvent, imposing the influence of the driving pressure on permeation at the membrane. We obtain accurate analytical solutions for the flow fields. We then derive an analytical solution that coupled hydrodynamics to mass transfer for filtration systems working in a situation of High Pressure and Low Recovery. Second, we develop a numerical model that incorporates both physical aspects: the dependency of pressure on permeation and the influence of concentration polarization and their related osmotic effects in the effective pressure at the membrane. For that, the numerical approach solves the solute conservation equation coupled with the Navier-Stokes equations under the steady Prandtl approximation. The solution of the system is performed using a finite difference method of order 2. The validity of this approach is successfully demonstrated with the previous analytical solutions for hydrodynamics, as well as for the coupling with mass transfer. We then test the influence of the main operating parameters (inlet concentration, axial flow rate, operating pressure and membrane permeability) on the performance of the filtration system and compare the results with other numerical models that takes into account concentration polarization phenomenon. Finally, the validity of this model is quantitatively well-proved when using the reported data resulting from reverse osmosis experiments.

Moderní technologie čištění spalin pro energetické využití zdravotnických odpadů / Up-to-date off gas cleaning system for Medical Waste-to-Energy unitsKotas, Dan January 2019 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with current situation of medical waste management in the Czech Republic and it also analyzes the quality of existing units for thermal treatment of the medical waste. In the second part of the thesis, available off-gas cleaning methods were described as well as the emission limits for waste incineration, which correspond to the legislative regulations effective in the Czech Republic. These emission limits are considered as input data for off-gas cleaning system design. In the main part of this thesis, two technological solutions of off-gas cleaning methods for Up-to-Date medical waste incineration unit were designed. The unit is designed for energy utilization of 1400 tons of medical waste accumulated during one year in a regional hospital of model region. From given input parameters, two appropriate apparatus concepts were created. After that, both concepts were evaluated either form energetic point of view as well as from material one. From these evaluations, key apparatuses of both concepts were designed which provided necessary design dimensions for further investment price estimation of each individual key apparatus. In the conclusion of this thesis, the best solution of an off-gas cleaning method was picked according to the comparison of operating and investment costs.

Posouzení účinnosti úpravny pitné vody prostřednictvím ekotoxikologických testů a screeningové analýzy / Assessment of the drinking water treatment plant effectiveness via ecotoxicological tests and screening analysesNývltová, Barbora January 2017 (has links)
The quality of raw water is deteriorating with the continuous increase in environmental pollution. Raw water is being modified to drinking water by technological processes, and it is therefore necessary to put increased demands on the efficiency of these technological processes and their possible innovation. Due to the fact that raw water is contaminated with different types of pollutants, it is necessary to continuously control the drinking water supplied to the public distribution network in order to ensure its quality. Drinking water treatment is still unable to treat the raw water perfectly, its pollution is only reduced to acceptable standards. For this reason, it is indispensable that the quality of drinking water is being checked regularly and at the same time the efficiency of individual technological processes of drinking water treatment is assessed. This includes screening analysis or eventually ecotoxicological tests. The thesis focuses on the efficiency of technological processes of drinking water treatment. Within the experimental part, samples of raw water and samples of water after each separation stage have been collected at the drinking water treatment plant in the Czech Republic. These samples have been subjected to ecotoxicological tests and screening analysis. Based on the ecotoxicological tests carried out on Thamnocephalus platyurus, Lemna minor and Vibrio fischeri, we can assume the emergence of harmful chlorinated by-products, resulting to nearly 100% mortality in T. platyurus. The results of the screening analysis carried out indicate, after the extraction of specimens by the SPE method using HPLC/MS, that the most effective method for the removal of hormonal substances is ozonization.

Hypertension artérielle résistante et maladie rénale chronique : déterminants et risques associés / Resistant Hypertension and Chronic Kidney Disease : Determinants and OutcomesKaboré, Jean 30 September 2016 (has links)
Resistant hypertension and chronic kidney disease: Determinants and outcomesResistant hypertension defined as blood pressure above goal despite simultaneous use of 3 antihypertensive classes at optimal doses including a diuretic, is commonly associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Resistant hypertension prevalence and determinants, and the impact of CKD on its long term outcomes are poorly known, particularly in the elderly population. In the 3 Cities cohort, including 4262 community-dwelling elderly individuals, aged 65 years or older treated for hypertension, the prevalence of apparent treatment resistant hypertension (aTRH) – because of lack of information on optimal treatment dose – was 11.8% vs 5.2% in those with vs without CKD (defined as estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2). We showed that new-onset aTRH was more strongly related to the speed of kidney function decline than kidney function level itself, independent of other risk factors: male sex, obesity, diabetes, and history of cardiovascular disease. Compared to the reference group (with controlled hypertension and no CKD), participants with aTRH and CKD had no significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality, but had a risk of fatal or non-fatal stroke and of recurrent stroke or coronary events more than twice as high, and of coronary death more than three times higher. However, the hypothesis that CKD may worsen the prognosis of aTRH was not confirmed (no significant interaction). In the CKDREIN cohort, which included more than 3000 nephrology outpatients with moderate or severe CKD (mean age, 70 years, 60% of men), our preliminary results showed a high prevalence of aTRH, 36,7% and several potentially modifiable risk factors : poor treatment adherence, lack of diuretic use, excess salt intake and obesity.Overall, this work shows the importance of CKD in the development of aTRH and associated cardiovascular outcomes, and suggests means for prevention beyond drug therapy.

Analyses numériques de la problématique multi-physique des fontis au voisinage d’une digue ou d’un ouvrage linéaire / Numerical analyses of the multi-physics problem of sinkholes in the vicinity of a dike or a linear geo-structureYang, Jie 08 July 2019 (has links)
Geo-structures such as dams and levees or dikes are subjected to seepage varying in time and space. The water flowing through these porous media can lead to the detachment and transport of part of the soil particles within the structures or their foundations. This problem is usually called internal erosion. The term suffusion, one type of internal erosion, refers to the detachment and transport of finer particles through a coarser porous soil matrix due to seepage flow. Suffusion can modify with time the hydraulic and mechanical properties of the soils and may trigger significant damage on such structures and lead eventually to their collapse. This research attempts to contribute to the design and sustainability of geotechnical and hydraulic engineering structures, with a particular focus on embankment dams, levees, and dikes. It aims to develop a numerical model of suffusion by introducing, on the one hand, the coupling of the hydraulic and mechanical phenomena and, on the other hand, the coupling of erosion and filtration.

This work includes the preparation and characterization of new uranium(IV) colloids which are formed and stabilized in the near neutral pH range and under environmentally relevant conditions. Conclusions on stability behavior and particle size distributions were drawn based on results obtained by dynamic light scattering, zeta potential measurements, as well as ultrafiltration and ultracentrifugation in combination with element analyzes. Spectroscopic methodes confirmed the tetravalent state of uranium in the experiments. Unlike empirical data, it is possible to generate long-term stable uranium(IV) colloids at higher concentrations. By addition of geochemical components such as carbonate and silicate, they are stable and resistant in the near neutral pH range over a long period. It was found that dissolved silica plays an essential role in the preparation of colloids. Colloid-borne uranium(IV) up to a concentration of 10-3 mol/L, corresponding to 0,238 g/L, is stabilized in solutions. This concentration is about three orders of magnitude higher than so far known silicate-free aqueous uranium(IV) colloids.
Through the use of different analytical methods (invasive and non-invasive) it could be shown that the resulting uranium(IV) colloids are in the nanoscalar range. A high mobility can be assumed in aquatic systems. Evidence is provided by photon correlation spectroscopy, ultrafiltration, and ultracentrifugation that uranium(IV) can form silicate-containing colloids of a size lower than 20 nm. The particles are generated in near neutral to slightly alkaline solutions containing geochemical relevant components (carbonate, silicate, sodium ions). They remain stable in aqueous suspension over years. Electrostatic repulsion due to a negative zeta potential in the near-neutral to alkaline pH range caused by the silicate stabilizes the uranium(IV) colloids. The isoelectric point of the nanoparticles is shifted towards lower pH values by the silicate. The higher the silicate to uranium(IV) content ratio and the higher the pH of the solution are, the smaller and more stable (in terms of pH-changes) are the particles. It should be noted that no colloids were formed in absence of uranium(IV).
The mechanism of the colloidal stabilization can be regarded as “sequestration” by silicate, a phenomenon well known from heavy metal ions of high ion potential such as iron(III) or manganese(III,IV), but never reported for uranium(IV) so far. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy showed that U–O–Si bonds, which increasingly replace the U–O–U bonds of the amorphous uranium(IV) oxyhydroxide with increasing silicate concentration, make up the internal structure of the colloids. The next-neighbor coordination of uranium(IV) in the uranium(IV)-silica colloids is comparable with that of coffinite, USiO4. The assessment of uranium behavior in the aquatic environment should take the possible existence of uranium(IV)-silica colloids into consideration. Their occurrence might influence uranium migration in anoxic waters. The silicate-stabilized colloids have been generated in laboratory experiments under controlled conditions; i.e., it is not known yet whether these phases can occur in natural water. The qualitative composition of the matrix of the experimental solutions (H+, OH-, Na+, HCO3-/CO32-, silicate) was chosen similar to the geochemical nature of groundwater. Thereby, it can be assumed that such colloids are present in natural waters. The existence of such particles would provide an ex-planation for the occurrence of uranium(IV) colloids in anoxic pore waters or groundwaters. However, it should be noted that these results were observed by the reduction of uranium(VI) carbonate and dilution in the presence of silicate.
Studies on the mobility and stability of these colloids in aquatic systems were not subject of this work and an environmental assessment of these novel uranium(IV) colloids with respect to the entry in the biosphere cannot be taken into account. But the possibilities of mobilization and stabilization can be applied to surrogate actinides and heavy metals, and point to the need for more intensive research in this area.

Targeted partial finishing of barrier textiles with microparticles, and their effects on barrier properties and comfortKuhr, Marlena, Aibibu, Dilbar, Cherif, Chokri 09 October 2019 (has links)
Woven barrier fabrics for filtration and operating room textiles feature permeable pore channels between yarn interlocking points (mesopores), which create an increased risk of penetration by contaminated fluids and particles. These pore channels can be reduced in size by high-density weaving. This, however, results in deteriorated drapability and performance characteristics. To meet the requirements made on the barrier effect without impairing the physiological properties of the textile, fluid-tight and particle-tight woven fabrics with adjustable porosity are being developed. This research aim could be realized by the targeted and partial application of microparticles into the mesopores. There, they form a meshed structure in the pores, whose size is thus reduced without them being entirely obstructed. The simultaneous retention of the micropores (pores between the individual filaments) in the woven fabric guarantees preservation of the physiological characteristics of the textile. The efficiency of the finishing was examined by an extensive physiological and physical characterization of the woven fabrics before and after particle application. Regarding the test method used to monitor the barrier effect and the channel paths, a test device was modified to simulate the demands of later, practical use.
