Previous issue date: 2004-05-31 / This work contributes for the project and planning of children s schools,
searching a project method that it makes possible to structuralize the facilities in
function of the carried through productive activities.
The objective is to analyze the use of the for facilities planning methods,
into project of children s schools, its viability, effectiveness, necessity and particularity.
This analisys objective to conceive children s schools through a scientific method that
guarantees of its productive performance.
Initially it is made a study of existing methods of facilities planning, its
content and its applications, for election of a method that better get adapted to the
project of children s schools. Also a study on the children education is carried through,
service that guides the planning of the object of this study, children s schools.
Beyond these, a study is become fulfilled on the inquiry of the activity of
work, that will guide the practical ones of inquiry of the chosen object for this study.
After the chosen method, a study of case in a school on the São Carlos
City to prove the application of the method, its necessity and efficiency.
One result identified was the lack of knowledge of the demand and its
characteristics to it in the city, a determination of the installations on the services and a
series of particularities for the application of the method in schools it was also verified
that the application of the project method chosen is viable and necessary for the
construction of children s schools.

The renovation of a church: a design that enables the First Baptist Church to extend its ministry to the Gainsboro community of Roanoke, VirginiaHaney, Michael C. January 1979 (has links)
The renovation of existing buiIdings is an alternative to new construction in urban renewal.
The members of First Baptist Church of Roanoke, Virginia made the decision to utilize their existing structure after their new church facilities have been built. They believe that their building is an established landmark in the community, and that a reuse of this building would benefit the community. They feel that this building could become a vehicle to extend its ministry to the community.
A workshop, with Halprin scoring, role playing, and brainstorming, was used to establish the buiIding program. The program established the foundation for the design of the renovation of the church building.
A description of the workshop and results, the design process and final design are included. / Master of Architecture

Climatic design guidelines for development of secondary schools in Lagos State, NigeriaIfekauche, Peter Amobi January 1983 (has links)
The thesis establishes guidelines for the development of a prototype secondary school in Lagos State, as well as in other parts of Nigeria with similar hot humid climate. The practicability of these guidelines was evaluated by applying it to a hypothetical design project.
The study presents a general background of existing conditions in the country--social, educational system, physical and architecture, before defining the context within which the design guidelines must be evolved. With a careful examination of these aspects, a set of design guidelines have been developed.
The proposed solution (guidelines) attempts to improve the environmental comfort in schools through the use of passive techniques. Experimental tests on the passive approach was limited to natural ventilation, daylighting and shading control. The design development and guidelines established in this thesis are not definitive but a representation of a preliminary architectural study which may need further investigations. / M. Arch.

A model for effective development of plant layouts and material handling systems : En modell för effektiv utformning av fabrikslayouter och materialhanteringssystemBäck, Daniel, Johansson, Peter January 2006 (has links)
In this thesis was a model developed, in order to improve deficiencies in existing literature regarding the layout problem and to give companies a comprehensible user-friendly procedure on how to design competitive production processes, plant layouts and material handling systems. The model consists of six phases that can be used sequentially in order to design, evaluate, implement and maintain effective plant layouts and material handling systems. The model can also be used to examine and optimize processes. The first four phases of the model were tested successfully in a case study at Holtab AB, a medium sized manufacturing company in Tingsryd.

Impact of the location of new schools on transportation infrastructure and financeWagner, James Bartley 19 February 2009 (has links)
Public school planning and land use planning have become increasingly separated fields over the last 35 years. This results in misaligned goals when school districts do not plan facilities that support a community's land use planning goals. The result is a disjointed growth pattern where new schools are built on the urban fringe and act as a magnet for new development that often goes against desired development patterns. Previous research on school locations and development patterns has focused on institutional barriers to cooperation and strategies to help local governments cooperate better with local land use planners. To date, there has been no significant research that attempts to quantify the relationship between school location and development patterns and the transportation infrastructure necessary to serve new development.
This research shows that there is a relationship between school location and new development. Four counties in Georgia were selected as case studies and analyzed with a Geographic Information System (GIS) to determine the significance of the link between these activities. Counties were selected based on their character (urban, suburban, exurban, rural) and analyzed separately. An elementary school and high school were analyzed for each county. In addition, interviews with school facility planners were conducted to further define what institutional barriers prevent cooperation among local land use planners and school planners. It was found that there is a wide range of levels of cooperation between school planners and local planners. Some school districts had a formalized communication process with local planners, some had an ad-hoc communication process, and others had no process at all. Recommendations are made on ways to improve the cooperation between these two professional fields. This thesis also examines the link between education and transportation capital funding. Georgia lawmakers are struggling to determine what type of capital funding mechanism would be appropriate for new transportation projects, but these new projects may negatively impact educational funding, which is currently based on a sales tax.
