There is no consensus to define if and how these programs create shareholder value. There are difficulties in determining this value in the long run, being an indirect measure or simply because there is no evaluation metrics available to answer this question clearly. Faced with this difficulty and the consequent need for academic progress in this subject, this research seeks to determine whether a relationship exists between the socio-environmental performance on the one hand, and economic performance on the other. To this end, this study seeks to identify and analyze qualitative proxies that can be used as an indicator of the level of socio-environmental performance of companies, then, to perform statistical tests in order to add new information about this relationship in the Brazilian market. The dependent proxies used in this research were ROE, ROA, EBITDA, Tobin's q and the Beta 60 months. In addition, we analyzed whether the economic advantages of a higher socio-environmental performance are more relevant to manufacturing companies, as well as whether they are more relevant to companies with higher environmental impact. The study results point to economic gains in terms of company valuation (Tobin's q approximately 20% higher) and in reducing the risk of companies (beta 60 months 9% lower). At the same they did not confirm any influence based on whether the company is in manufacturing or has different levels of environmental impact

Forneck, Fernando 19 August 2011 (has links)
Submitted by Fabricia Fialho Reginato (fabriciar) on 2015-07-04T00:25:59Z No. of bitstreams: 1 FernandoForneck.pdf: 601299 bytes, checksum: e36434223bba55de51e83aa3859934dc (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2015-07-04T00:25:59Z (GMT). / The purpose of this study was to verify the existing relation between Job embeddedness of the employee of a financial institution and the individual performance and the performance of the bank where he works. In this case a research was made on the existing literature about this concept, it was also verified what the studies on the financial field were researching and some information was raised on this line. In the first semester of 2011 the Job embeddedness theoretical model was tested with 71 individuals of a financial institution located in Rio Grande do Sul. It was suggested through the theoretical review that the level of Job embeddedness of the managers of this institution had a relation with the individual performance of this person and the performance of the branch. The research technique used was regressive analysis. The results show that the link each individual has with organization is positively related to his or her individual job performance. Results also show that scarify to leave the organization is negatively related to individual job performance. On the other hand the study has helped to verify that the performance of managers has a strong and significant relationship with the financial performance of the bank, confirming the eighth hypothesis. This demonstrates that other studies can be made to check the relationship of this variable with performance and try to verify what influences the individual performance of a manager.

Financial Performance Outcomes Following System Replacement in the Insurance Industry

Owen, Trevor James 01 January 2015 (has links)
Enterprise system replacement projects within the property and casualty insurance industry are costly, high-risk undertakings that carry a significant risk of project failure. The decision to replace policy administration systems for companies with over $250 million in direct written premium is a multimillion dollar investment for corporate strategic decision makers. This study examined the financial impact of enterprise policy administration system replacement in the property and casualty insurance industry by comparing financial performance results for companies that performed policy administration system replacements with those that did not. Insurance industry financial results for the years 2009 through 2014 were used for the analysis and examined in a quantitative quasi-experimental study using repeated measures MANOVA with 6 levels for US companies with over $250 million in 2009 direct written premiums. This analysis showed that enterprise system replacement was not financially significant for revenue growth or operational efficiency. This finding suggests that system replacement should not be used as a financial growth strategy for organizations, although other justifications for system replacement may make replacement beneficial. Additional research is recommended to determine whether financial performance gains seen in 2014 for companies performing system replacements carry into future years, or whether particular companies with positive performance results following system replacement employed strategies that could be generalized across the industry. This study promotes positive social change by informing sound financial decision making and investment by insurance companies, thereby improving their financial health and stability.

Financial Strategies and Initiatives for Preventing Rural Hospital Closure

Uecker, Chinue 01 January 2018 (has links)
In the United States, rural hospital closures increased 34% since 2015 due to financial reasons, affecting access to healthcare services in rural communities. For rural hospital leaders, improving the hospital's financial performance is a valuable strategic goal. This multiple case study was designed to explore strategies that rural hospital leaders implement to improve their hospital's financial performance in Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and the United States Virgin Islands. The strategic decision-making framework supported the study because top leaders make decisions that affect the organization's health and survival. Fifteen rural hospital leaders who maintain their hospital's financial stability provided hospital documentation and pertinent strategic information from their respective semistructured interviews. Sections of text signifying concepts from collected documentation and transcribed interviews were organized and coded according to research question and interview questions to explore strategies rural hospital leaders implemented to improve their hospital's financial performance. The methods triangulation process encompassed comparing findings from the interview themes and hospital strategic documentation analysis. The key themes that emerged from coded data were rural hospital leaders' decision-making when addressing rural hospital financial performance, developing synergies with external providers and hospitals, creating effective short-term and long-term strategies, and translating success to the entire organization. Implications for social change include the potential to prevent rural hospital closure and ensure access to healthcare services for the communities rural hospitals serve.

Uticaj odnosa s medijima na pojedine organizacione i poslovne performanse u preduzećima u Srbiji / The impact of media relations on certain organizational and business performances in companies in Serbia

Terek Edit 23 May 2017 (has links)

Konkretno, diesrtacija obuhvata uticaj odnosa s medijima (MR) na zadovoljstvo komunikacijom (CS), korporativni kredibilitet (CC), finansijske performanse (FP), distancu moći (PD), orjentaciju ka budućnosti (FO) i suštinsko transformaciono liderstvo (CTL). 6. Unapređenjem odnosa s medijima, preduzeće stvara dobru osnovu za podizanje nivoa organizacionih i poslovnih performansi.
/
The dissertation deals with the impact of media relations (MR) on certain organizational and business performances in Serbian companies. The correlations between the media relations items and organizational and business performance are statistically significant, strong and positive, in most cases. Modern media have the greatest impact on organizational and business performance. 2. Media relations have little impact on corporate credibility, and that influence is achieved primarily through modern media. 3. In terms of financial performance, media relations have a particularly positive influence on market share and sales growth. 4. To increase organizational performances, companies should pay close attention to modern media, as well as to the presence of the CEO in the media. 5. To increase business (financial) performance, companies should pay considerable attention to both modern and traditional media, while the company’s media presence has an advantage over that of the CEO.

Essays of Financial Performance and Capital Structure

Lindbergh, Lars January 2003 (has links)
This thesis consists of an introductory chapter and four self-contained essays on financial performance and capital structure. Essay I assesses the strength of strategic inputs into profitability among firms within several sub-sectors within the industrial service sector in the U.S. and Sweden. In this study we employ an ordinary least square regression. The results, coupled with structural observations on production sectors, suggest that significant differences may indeed occur in both productivity and pricing in the two systems, i.e. the U.S. and Sweden. Essay II estimates the impact of operating costs and cost of debt on revenue, profit generation and asset retention in public housing companies in Sweden. A general conclusion to draw from the empirical results is that expentitures on consolidated maintenance is not only associated with short-term rental revenues, but undoubtedly long-term viability as well. Further, first difference results suggested that negotiated rents produced operating profits that kept pace with revenues over the time period of study. Essay III examines the impact of selected financial and contextual variables on managers’ decisions to appropriate funds to tax allowances in small firms in Sweden. The motive for appropriating to the tax allocation reserve is twofold. First, the tax allocation reserve is intended to lower the tax levy on investments financed with internally generated income. Second, it creates a possibility for firms to smooth income over a number of years. The results, from the logistic regression, suggest that financial performance, financial position and prior appropriations do impact on managers’ decision to appropriate. Essay IV examines the association between the two sides of the balance sheet based on financial statement information from small firms in Sweden The results of the multivariate canonical correlation analysis provides some support to the hypotheses that firms develop patterns, in their use of assets and their financing.

Predicting Employee Performance In Non-profit Sport Organizations: The Role Of Managerial And Financial Performance And The Mediating Role Of Support For Innovation And Individual Creativity

Ocal, Kubilay 01 June 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of the current study was to examine the level of support for innovation and individual creativity as potential mediators of relationship between managerial task performance, managerial contextual performance, organizational financial performance and employee performance in non-profit sport organizations in Turkey. For the purpose of the study, 721 volunteer managers and employees from 21 Department/School of Physical Education and Sport (D-SPES) and 23 Province Directorates of Youth and Sport (PDYS) were participated in the study. Individual Creativity Scale, Support for Innovation Scale, Managerial Task Performance Scale, Managerial Contextual Performance Scale, Organizational Financial Performance Scale, and Employee Performance Scale were used for data collection. Results of the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis revealed that the model adequately describes the data for the sample and the fit indices were all within the acceptable thresholds. The model accounted for 68% variance in support for innovation, 0.7% variance in individual creativity and 44% variance in employee performance. These results suggested that support for innovation and individual creativity significantly mediate the effects of managerial task performance, managerial contextual performance and organizational financial performance on employee performance.

The Relationship between Corporate Social and Financial Performance : Evidence from Chinese Heavy-polluting Industries

Jiang, Lijun, Yang, Qishen January 2015 (has links)
This study investigates the relationship between corporate social performance (CSP)and corporate financial performance (CFP) within the context of a particular CSPelement: environmental investment. Two models of the determinants of companies’environmental investment are estimated in order to capture the difference betweenfirms’ actual and expected level of environmental investment. The regressionresiduals are used as our measure of corporate social performance. Both market-basedand accounting-based measures of financial performance are applied to representcorporate financial performance. With the analysis of a sample encompassing 223Chinese heavy-polluting companies, we have found that it is more likely to observe asignificantly positive relationship between firms’ environmental endeavors and theiraccounting-based financial performance among firms that are more active to disclosecorporate information. Besides, building on our empirical findings that corporatesocial performance is positively correlated with accounting-based financialperformance but has no correlation with market-based financial performance, wesuggest a priority for managers from Chinese heavy-polluting industries when theyfulfill social demands of various stakeholders.
