Damit ist FireWire langsam auf dem Weg zu einer selbstverständlichen Schnittstelle für den PC. Videokameras mit DV-Schnittstelle sind für den Heimanwender ebenfalls erschwinglich.
Die Möglichkeit, kleine Videofilme verlustfrei zu schneiden erscheint dadurch sehr lukrativ.
Wie sieht diese Entwicklung im Linuxumfeld aus?
Kann FireWire mehr als Videodaten transportieren?

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Gigabits and hundreds of megabit communication buses are starting to appear as the avionic buses of choice for new or upgraded airborne systems. This trend presents new challenges for instrumentation engineers in the areas of high speed data multiplexing, data recording, and data transmission of flight safety information. This paper describes the approach currently under development to acquire data from several types of high-speed avionic buses using distributed multiplexer and acquisition units. Additional input data may include PCM, wideband analog data, discrete, real-time video and others. The system is capable of multiplexing and recording all incoming data channels, while at the same time providing data selection down to the parameter level from input channels for transmission of flight safety information. Additionally, an extensive set of data capture trigger/filter/truncation mechanisms are supported.

Transmission of digital signals is today more frequently used than transmission of analog signals. One reason for this is that a digital signal is less sensitive to noise than an analog, another reason is that almost all signals today are handled in a digital format. This thesis describes the development of a system that receives digital video signals through FireWire. The standard for FireWire, which is a high performance serial bus, is under development. Today the standard of the bus supports transmission of data with a speed of up to 400 Mbit/s. In the future FireWire is supposed to transmit data with a speed of up to 3,2 Gbit/s. The thesis gives an introduction to the technique for FireWire and how it is implemented. It also includes a short description of digital video signals in DVCAM format.

Spacecraft Interface Standards Analysis and Simple BreadboardingLjunggren, Birgitta January 2005 (has links)
<p>This report is a result of a thesis work done for Linköping University at Contraves Space AG in Zürich, Switzerland. The aim was to perform an analysis of 12 interface standards and construct a simple breadboard, which should function as a testsystem for the data communication interface MIL-STD-1553. </p><p>The conclusion of the extensive analysis is that SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553 and CAN are the most interesting interfaces for future data communication in spacecrafts. In the breadboard part of the work, a test system was built and data gathered with help from a demonstration program that came with one of the components.</p>
