Výzkum efektivnosti lokalizačních algoritmů s kotevními body / Performance of Distance Vector Localization in Wireless Sensor Network

Štrbíková, Tatiana January 2010 (has links)
The thesis deals with sensor networks and their localization. First section describes sensor networks in general and explains problems of localization and routing. The second part deals with localization using anchors. The principal of the Dv-hop and DV-Distance are there described in detail. These algorithms are used for simulations in Matlab in the main part of this thesis. According to the simulations the most sufficient number of sensors for good localization is estimated.

"You Don't Need Nobody Else Knocking You Down": Survivor-mothers' Experiences of Surveillance in Domestic Violence Shelters

Fauci, Jennifer E. January 2019 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Lisa A. Goodman / For survivors of intimate partner violence, the very act of seeking help from a domestic violence (DV) shelter can incur enormous costs. One such cost involves what this study calls “parenting surveillance:” that is, DV advocates can observe, monitor, evaluate, and sometimes control survivors’ parenting—activities given added weight through their mandated reporter role. Although parenting surveillance has long been a feature of state intervention into family life, particularly for low-income women of color, it is largely unexplored in the DV shelter system. This is a striking gap for several reasons: First, most DV programs are committed to supporting survivors’ autonomy and empowerment, seemingly at odds with surveillance. Second, shelter surveillance may echo abusive dynamics from which survivors are attempting to escape. Third, survivors consistently cite fears of losing control of their parenting as a barrier to help-seeking. It is critical to understand the extent to which parenting surveillance prevents programs from achieving their own goals, potentially harming survivors, and obstructing their ability to seek help. Using a community-based participatory research approach, this qualitative-descriptive study aimed to explore survivor-mothers’ experiences of parenting surveillance among 12 residents of four shelters. Qualitative content analysis of the data that drew upon constant comparison techniques yielded six clusters: survivor-mothers (1) want and find support in their programs; (2) experience and witness parenting surveillance; (3) describe negative psychological responses to surveillance; (4) report varying effects on parenting and help-seeking related to surveillance; (5) cope with and resist surveillance; and (6) offer recommendations for improvements to DV shelters. Results suggest that although surveillance is a structural phenomenon, survivors perceived and experienced it differentially, based on their own identities and prior experiences, and the nature of their relationships with advocates. For advocates, ameliorating the damaging effects of surveillance involves both pragmatic and relational shifts grounded in empathy for survivor-mothers’ subjective experience of parenting in the context of their histories, identities, strengths, and vulnerabilities. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2019. / Submitted to: Boston College. Evaluation of Voltage-Controlled Active Gate-Drivers for SiC MOSFET Power Semiconductors

Mourges, Paul Michael 26 September 2022 (has links)
With the development and use of Silicon-Carbide [Silicon-Carbide (SiC)] devices come a host of advantages, including higher switching frequency, improved thermal performance, and higher voltage rating. This higher switching frequency can reduce the size of the con- verter system, but is typically associated with higher dv/dt voltage slew rates that further increase electromagnetic interference (EMI) related phenomena. Conventional gate-drivers are very limited in the way that they can control this high dv/dt, and this leads to the use of active gate-drivers. This thesis will explore the use of an active voltage-controlled gate-driver for SiC devices, utilizing transiently a voltage closer to the Miller plateau than the nominal turn-on and turn-off voltage to introduce control over the switching transient. Various ap- plied voltages, and voltage sequences will be evaluated to determine their effectiveness for controlling dv/dt and their impact on switching loss. Through this work, a better under- standing of the advantages and drawbacks of an active gate-driver can be found. The main result from this work is the effective reduction in the dv/dt generated by MOSFET devices, which was attained at a lower switching loss penalty compared to conventional resistive gate-drivers operating at similar dv/dt rates. Simulation and experimental results obtained with a prototype active gate-driver circuitry were used for this evaluation. / Master of Science / Within power electronic systems such as an inverter used to connect solar panels to the grid, are electrically controlled switches. These switches traditionally have been made of Silicon (Si) which imposed limitations on how fast they could transition from off to on, and vice versa, they also could only switch a relatively small number of times per second. However, a new generation of devices made from a silicon carbide material are being increasingly adopted, some key advantages of these new devices include much higher number of times to switch per second, and faster transitions from off-on and on-off. The trade-off that comes with this faster operation is an increase in the electromagnetic noise generated by these switches, among other issues. This work looks to explore a more unique method of controlling the turn-on and turn-off of these new switches and evaluating its impact on the noise generated and the losses during switching.

Editing the independent, digital feature film, mosaic

McMillan, Matthew Christopher January 2007 (has links)
The production of the independent, digital feature film titled Mosaic was performed on a very low budget. The design and implementation of the post-production of the film required consideration of budgetary constraints, and solutions to these constraints that would still allow the creative freedom of the editor and the director. The technical design was based around digital filmmaking technology. The choice of this technology influenced how the editor was able to address aesthetic and technical challenges.

Loutka a její využití při práci s literárním textem na 1. stupni ZŠ / Using Puppets for Working with a Literary Text on the First Degree of the Elementary School

Vebrová, Jana January 2017 (has links)
In its theoretical part, this thesis deals with possibilities of using puppets at the education process of drama education. It is aimed at the puppets using at literary text working. It sketches relation between a child and a puppet, his or her communication and working with it. It points out puppets using in the other education sphere. This thesis acquaints pupils with basic kinds of puppets, a way of their using at the education and it shows possibilities of puppets hand making. This work refers to child fantasy what can help bringing subject around and after that its using is easy. It demonstrates that a puppet can have its own place in drama education lessons which concentrate on literary. The practical part deals of research what is oriented on the drama education lessons which use activities with a puppet and without it. It approaches a child working during a school year and shows progress at his work and in relation to a puppet. The thesis brings the solution how to make it special for school. This work makes puppets importance at the education. Key words: - puppets - education - literary text - drama education - activity - stage process - communication - puppet theatre - working with puppets

Överföring av digital video via FireWire / Transmission of Digital Video through FireWire

Andersson, Peter January 2002 (has links)
Transmission of digital signals is today more frequently used than transmission of analog signals. One reason for this is that a digital signal is less sensitive to noise than an analog, another reason is that almost all signals today are handled in a digital format. This thesis describes the development of a system that receives digital video signals through FireWire. The standard for FireWire, which is a high performance serial bus, is under development. Today the standard of the bus supports transmission of data with a speed of up to 400 Mbit/s. In the future FireWire is supposed to transmit data with a speed of up to 3,2 Gbit/s. The thesis gives an introduction to the technique for FireWire and how it is implemented. It also includes a short description of digital video signals in DVCAM format.
